  1. I am glad I was able to give you an idea. I have looked for that style u-bolt with out luck. When I saw those I wondered where you got them.
  2. Great Job!. Where did you get the u-bolts?
  3. Personally I would get the simplest motor available. That would be a 5 speed with cable steering. If you rely on it daily the less things it has the less likely it will fail.
  4. Is there an Update? I would like to see what you have done?
  5. Interstate and walmart batteries are both made by Johnson controls. There are only a few companies that make batteries for all other brands. http://batteryfaq.org/
  6. I had the trailer out for a full load test today. Hauled two OK prowler big games and a small pelican apex 100 it perfomed well. basically what is in the picture and another kayak like the blue one.
  7. Yes, you can replace the knobs, they have a nut inside, with a regular nut. It is a carriage bolt that comes through the bracket. I may, at a later time, remove the rollers and bunks and get two more sets of J brackets and have the capacity to carry 4 kayaks.
  8. The ones I have clamp on the pipe, or roof rack, with two big plastic knobs holding a piece of metal.
  9. I found these on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/TMS-KAYAK-RK-J-1BOX-Universal-Carrier/dp/B003V57NUQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1VVAF8GQHY0H2&coliid=I2HOXIY7TY818Q
  10. Oh, yea. The J cradles are much easier to use. Yes, they are carpeted 2x4s. they came with the trailer. http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-capacity-boat-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-5002.html I had the trailer for an old 12' boat i had. I got the blue kayak and got rid of the boat and kept the trailer for the kayak. Then another kayak for the wife. So I had to make modifications. If I had the kayak and then needed a trailer I would go with this. http://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lb-capacity-48-inch-x-96-inch-heavy-duty-foldable-utility-trailer-with-12-inch-wheels-90154.html and bolt the J brackets right to the cross members. If I started over
  11. The cradles were $65 total for all 4. The EMT is held to the trailer by straps. I also put a screw through the top of the strap into the emt to make sure it doesn't slide. It is not going anywhere.
  12. Wanting to haul more that one Kayak at a time easily when I kayak fish with others I made updated my trailer to do the job. I took by existing harbor freight trailer, some 1 1/4" EMT, 4 two hole EMT hanger, screws and kayak carriers. I may shorten the pipes to pull the outside kayaks in a bit.
  13. 2001 Crestliner Angler 16. about 4k new with trailer. paid Cash. Literally handed the salesman $100 bills. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as costs. repack the bearings every other year or so. Water pump now and then. Biggest cost if fuel. about 200 a year locally about $150 for the week I am in Canada. heck insurance in about $100 a year. I did have to replace the tilt assist cylinder twice in the last three years though.
  14. Charger http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/BC-201/12VDC-1000MA-DUAL-STAGE-CHARGER/1.html batteries http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/160/Batteries-Rechargeable/1.html
  15. 5 speed trolling motors will not cause interference with a depth finder in they are hooked to the same battery. Find out what the max current draw for your motor will be and wire and fuse accordingly. 6AWG and a 60 amp breaker will be good for most motors. For all other accessories. I would would run a 10 AWG wire, with a 30 amp breaker, from the battery to the main post on the fuse block. On the fuse block I would run 14 AWG wires with 15 amp fuses to pumps and other heavy loads like accessory plugs. The I would run 16 AWG wires with 10 amp fuses to all electronics and lights. I think Humminbird wants 3 amp fuses on their finders. I would still run the 16 AWG wire so you wont get voltage drop.
  16. My 12V 52lb thrust minnkota only draws 30amp at top speed.
  17. I use one of these for my Kayak. I am sure a canoe would fit as well. http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-capacity-boat-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-5002.html
  18. I used some 3M VHB double sided tape to mount my transducer to my aluminum boat. No issues. You have to get the correct stuff. I mounted the transducer to a piece of plastic then used the tape between the plastic and the hull. I got the idea from humminbird. http://store.humminbird.com/products/313992/XSO_9_20_T

  20. The act of sucking air from the surface of the water is called ventilation. cavitation is when "bubbles" form on the low pressure side of the prop.
