Ice fishing near Boundary Waters in Minnesota
My cousin goes there. They have less ice than normal, but normal is close to 3'. Your boss must want to do some sledding.

More snow
Snowmobilers have had a great year! Some people up here enjoy winter more than I do. The sledders and ice fishermen. I know people that only ice fish and don't summer fish. I'm not one of them. Most of the time ice fishing is boring. With most of the people I know its more ice drinking than ice fishing.

Baitcaster for St Croix LTB Rod
As far as being a standout, I think the xt is overlooked and under rated. I haven't heard (or read) any bad reviews on it yet. It shares a lot of the same parts as the revos and their are people out there that pick it over the highly touted revo premier. Personally I don't think the core 50mg7 has much if anything on it and the xt is $130 cheaper. Yes I've used both. I was talked into buying one at cabelas last summer because I was in there to buy a revo premier and they were out of them. I knew if I didn't like it I could bring it back. However, it shocked me, its nice. It palms easier than a revo also.

Mine was missing some clear coat where you palm the reel.

Baitcaster for St Croix LTB Rod
Pflueger patriarch xt! A superb reel and the blue will look sweet w/ the blue rod. Less than $200 on ebay brand new.

Sick and can't Sleep
This responce is a little late, but something for the future. Theraflu works wonders IMHO. It not only makes you feel better but it knocks you out for 2-4 hours.

centrifugal brake settings
As good of instructions as you will get!

I handled one at the St. Paul sportsman show last month. Nice, real nice!

Maybe this guy should have spent more time traning.
That knockout punch almost spun his head a full rotation! What a Bozo.

Anyone review a Pflueger Patriarch XT Casting Reel
If the xt came in 7:1 I would have a couple more! I'm not a huge fan of the EVA grips/knobs either, but I'll put up w/ them because the reel is that good.

Modulus vs. tonnage
I guess what it boils down to is this; The only good way to form a opinion on any rod is to fish w/ it (what is mentioned on this site often)! However, A person can do a little deducting by store handling. Weight, balance, stiffness........

Anyone review a Pflueger Patriarch XT Casting Reel
I have a patriarch xt and I think it is a excellent reel! It's solid and smooth. The blue would look cool on some rods, but otherwise the color is odd. I care far more about performance than looks though. The coating on the reel is bulletproof. It would take a lot to scratch it. Generally speaking, I use shimano reels and love them. I would, however, recommend the pat. xt to anyone!!

Baitcaster v. Spinning
I prefer baitcasters, but the "time and place" thing is important

Modulus vs. tonnage
Thanks Whets. Apparently, there is no exact calculation between the 2. It kind of describes what I've read other places also. The modulus # is not always the correct way to rate a rods weight and sensitivity. The resins and other things that make up the construction of the blank play a big role. The reading also states that Gary Loomis rods aren't over 45 million mod. Like said above, its the other things in the recipe. I had to research this topic because I found myself obsessed with the ton or mod. # in rods I was interested in. I've read enough about IM rating to know that it isn't accurate. Winter finds me fishing less and thinking too much!

7:1 Why?
X2 Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Looks like there is a Revo 7.9:1 about to hit the market. See post in this section. X3. Anything less than 26-27 IPT is too slow for my personal liking.

Palomar Knot?
Try it with braid and see what happens when you get something big on... I use the uni only on braid and have never had a problem. I've caught numerous fish, hauled in logs, straightened hooks... and never had the line pull through. Power pro was the braid I was using. What brand was the line pulling through for you?
-
Modulus vs. tonnage
Is there any way to compare/ convert between these 2? Like, how does a 50 million mod. rod compare to a 30 ton?

Which of these 3 ~$80 casting rods would you buy and why?
That sale at BTD includes a lot of nice rods!

G Loomis bcr803 glx vs. Dobyns dx703c
I've thought of that too. Actually I have a opportunity to buy either of those used. Also, I will be mostly using it for docks, weedlines/pads at medium to fairly close distances.

G Loomis bcr803 glx vs. Dobyns dx703c
Just looking for some opinions as to which would be better for casting and pitching 5-6 and ocasionally 7" weightless senkos?
