  1. I have not had a chance to use any of the BPS reels and would like some opinions and possible comparisons. I've read a lot of good feedback about the pro qualifier. The JM Gold is marked down to $129.99 and the carbonlite seems interesting. Reels that I have used include Shimano citica 200e, cur. 200e7, chr. 50mg, core 50mg7, Abu revo sx, pflueger patriarch xt. Any sort of comparison between these and the BPS reels would be appreciated. Obviously I'm most interested in the JMG.
  2. I've fished with both and would probably give the edge to the Cumara. They are both great rods though.
  3. I agree. He might not ever agree with you outwardly, just keep an eye on which combo he reaches for if you end up getting him one.
  4. I've learned to keep my mouth shut about $ I spend on fishing equipment and I also keep it spread out in different locations so she doesn't see "the mother load" as a whole. All the while she's doing the same with purses, shoes, and clothes Ya, makes long for simple life...oops... I mean single life. ;D
  5. I also got the 40# right before the last day I fished this fall. I used it on just that trip and was initially impressed also. It was a little stiff at first, but it didn't take long to limber up. Come spring I'll be able to do more comparing to PP and make a decision of which to use. Like most braids, they don't give the stuff away for free! $19.99 for 150 yards.

  7. I don't know what kind of temps you've been having, but up here there isn't too many times in a winter when you're not in a permanent shack or portable. Middle of the day tip-up fishing I guess. Wind chills have been below zero pretty steady lately and we just got over 2 feet of snow in less than a week.
  8. My vote would be for the 870. Been awhile since I carried around a pump though. I used a S&W super 1000 for years then graduated to Beneli. The 870 has been around a long time and is a proven gun IMHO.
  9. 1) Patriats 2) Steelers 3) Saints
  10. 1) 6" and 7" Senkos 2) Lipless cranks (variety) 3) Tie- buzzbaits and spinnerbaits
  11. I could fall asleep anywhere too! The problem is what my back will feel like when I wake up.
  12. Good for him! Hope he makes out O.K. It seems like the holidays really bring a lot of trash to the surface.
  13. I wondered were he had been also. Best wishes to you Burley, I'll be praying for you.
  14. One of the things that is kind of disappointing these days is the constant stimulazation our kids are used to. My kids love to go fishing(they're 8,9,and 12), but they are frustrated easily from lack of action. Ya, I know a slow bite sucks for all of us especially kids, but its different these days. Maybe my memory is tainted, but I can remember going to the local river, dam or sometimes docks on the lake near were my friend lived and fishing all day. We never brought food or pop, maybe enough change to go to and share a soda. Sometimes the fishing was good and sometimes not. We always kept at it like an addiction(a life long one I guess)!! Rhino talked about playing outside. We always played outside too. Still like to. My kids think its torture at times when we make them go out and play. No matter what time of year it is. Their sense of reality is skewed from technology. Kind of like those Japanese cartoons that gave kids seizures.
  15. x2. We own one too. Get this, the bed is supposed to allow each side to set their own 'sleep #', but my wife insists my side is too stiff and changes it when I'm not around. Isn't married life great!! Oh my. This is supposed to be a G rated forum. Now you've made it a PG-13. I figured someone would go there!! I didn't set myself up intentionally. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  16. Aside from lack of drag pressure, the chronarch 50mg pitches well because of its very free floating spool.
  17. I've caught some of my best fish on original rapalas. Northern, sm. and lg.mouth bass, walleye, trout...
  18. When I do walleye fish, I've done well with the husky jerk and original raps. Early in the year, mister twisters on jig heads work well in the river systems.
  19. You'll be amazed at how well different artificial baits work. It's a lot of fun. We had a walleye on a stringer when we felt the boat tug. There was a northern continuously tugging on the stringered fish till we pulled the stringer up! You'll be spoiled for life.

  21. I'll be 40 in July, but can still appreciate this thread. Like our parents beat into our heads, I try to instill some old school values, if you will, with our kids. I just end up being frustrated. Twenty years ago when I was a freshmen in college my buddy in the dorm got one of those HUGE cell phones. At the time the concept was amasing. He proceeded to tell all of us that he was told "in 5 years or so everyone will be carrying around one of these". It seemed far fetched at the time. Man, how times have changed. Recently, the family and I were watching tv and people on the TV were playing pong. The kids thought it was hilarious that that was one of our 1st experiences with home gaming.
  22. Correct. Thankfully, he didn't hurt anyone else. Another obvious case of severe mental illness.
  23. I believe this is a very good point. Personal experiences with anything tend to be the best learning experiences also.
  24. Sorry to hear about the loss. I've been a dog man my whole life. Been raising and breeding patterdale terriers for just under 20yrs. now. Lost quite a few before their time to cars and running off to go on their own hunt. Its depressing everytime wether its an accident or old age. My faithfull hunting lab is getting up there too. He's been around since my daughter(12yrs. old) was a baby. That will be a tough one. Definately get your father another dog soon! It works.
  25. Nope, give 'em a bone when we get home, and put the rest in the freezer. Make sure they are fresh, though even old meat that we consider to be spoiled would be a part of their natural ancestral diet. Our dog loves to find cat poop and eat it. It is a typical dog behavior, and our vet assures us it is usually harmless. However, it is not good for his breath. Rhino's right about the butcher bones. They have enzymes and such that actually help a dogs digestive track. I've raised a ton of patterdale terriers. They're ground workers like the jack russel was bred to do, but better. I had one that had a love of dog poop. His or another dogs. It drove me nuts and grossed me out. While inquiring about a solution, I was told(or read) about giving them the raw butcher bones. The bones were supposed to supply the dog w/ what it was missing, Therefore curb the poop diet. As for cat poop. We have a cat too and I keep the litter box away from dogs. I agree, it doesn't do any wonders for their breath and is also gross. As for dangerous bones, cooked chicken and rib bones are the worst. I've even picked up some packaged bones from the pet food store that splintered terribly. Not good.
