  1. I checked this rod out extensively also. Sooner or later I will pick up one of these. I think it would be a good worm rod too. When I was at cabelas today getting the 2 rods I noticed that they are selling them quick. Half of them have been sold since I've began looking at them a few days ago.
  2. My Patriarch xt will go on that med. mf for cranks, spinnerbaits/ buzzbaits. The blue reel might not look too bad on the white. When I pull the trigger on the 7'3" Verdict I'll prob. put a 200e7 on it. I really would like to try a premier, but I can almost get 2 e7's for that price. It's hard to find a discount on the premier! An earlier post stated that the med. mf might be a little stiff for light cranks, but I have that covered w/ a 7' med. fast act. Kistler ltx 1/16-1/2oz. baits that I picked up a month ago. I think I will put a 50e on that. Now I'm just itching for the Verdict!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Just picked up 2 of them today. A 7'3" mh fast for my dad and a med. 7' mf for myself. When the Verdicts are more available I'm going to pick up a 7' or 7'3" mh for myself also. Had a 25% off coupon that had to be used by Jan. 5. Worked out pretty well, $74.99 for each!
  4. After using PP exclusively I spooled up some 40# 832 right at the end of the season. I used it all day on one trip. Right off the spool it didn't seem as limp as PP. It didn't take long to loosen up though. All in all I would say it is easily as good as PP and probably better, but I hate to get ahead of myself on one use. This spring I will start with both and make that decision.
  5. I used that exact rod all last summer for crankin. It worked well for me. I also have a helium ltx casting rod. I own a few different brands of rods and I'm constantly tyring new ones. I really like the Kistlers and wouldn't hesitate to get more if needed. The only thing I've noticed about them is on average their tip sections are lighter than other rods of the same power.
  6. One extreme to the next. In the trendy 80's ;D ;D everyone tried to wear their pants 1 size too small. The beloved "porch pants".
  7. I just got done pointing that out to my wife. If shes trying to break records, why diet pop? Kind of a stupid record to break in my mind anyway.
  8. Good idea! I don't care for ice fishing too much and I don't own a snowmobile. Also, our bass fishing is very seasonal here.
  9. I hate to use a swearword, but Cabela's prodigy baitcaster is on sale for $59.99. Its a nice reel, but I'm not sure what the drag pressure is? It's made by Daiwa so it might be the 8.8lbs.
  10. The only problem w/ the veritas lineup is that their only 7' med. is a mod. fast. I might just get that mod. fast for a crankbait/topwater rod and wait to get a 7' or 7'3" MH verdict. SeanW- how does that 7'3" feel w/ a reel on it(tip heavy wise)?
  11. A question for the people who already have a veritas. Which one would you recommend for fishing a weightless senko and other soft plastics? When I was handling them they felt stiff for their rating so I'm a little undecided.
  12. In southern MN we have gotten 3' (give or take?) of snow in the last 2 1/2 weeks. This thurs. or fri. were expecting another foot. This is by far the most snow we've had in many years and the winter isn't even close to over. At this time we are 1" away from being the snowiest Dec. on record so come fri. we should be breaking records. The snow is so deep at intersections and the ends of driveways that its getting dangerous to pull out anywhere.
  13. Where are the $70 PQ's? I saw $89.99 on line at BPS.
  14. Take a look at the veritas or the verdict(if they have one). I have never had any interest in a abu rod till I handled a veritas yesterday and now I want one. I've owned a Dobyns ch., Kistler helium II, G loomis and other high end rods. I haven't fished a veritas yet so I can't do a real comparison, but I wil be getting one to try. If you didn't know the price, you would never guess they are $99 after handling one.
  15. I was at Cabelas yesterday checking out what they had left of their clearence xml rods($59). As I've said before, these rods are nice at $139.00. Right next to those were a rack of the veritas so of course I had to handle one. I'm definitely going to get one to try out. They feel awesome!! Light, balanced, and they felt pretty sensitive when doing a "rub the tip on the carpet" test. $99!!!!!!!!!!! After walking away I had to go back. I held an XML in 1 hand and a veritas in the other. I was way more impressed w/ the veritas. I do own 2 casting and 2 spinning XML's, but my focus of looking for another went straight to the veritas. Can't wait to get my hands on one of the new Verdicts also.
  16. I handled one of those pat. spinning reels at cabelas. I want one!!!
  17. Yes. I think the "good quality" comment is key though. I bought my boy a off brand 2-pc. last year that will not stay in line properly or together all the time.
  18. I used to own a 2010 sx. It's a good reel, but I prefer centrifugal or dual brakes vs. just magnetic. That's just me though.
  19. I agree that using a very nice reel or rod can definitely spoil a person for life. If I bought a $1,000 rod/reel combo it would have to come with a "force field" for protection.
  20. Do you have a certain gear ratio "range" you are interested in. Wether its for cranking or not I personally can't stand any reel that cranks less than 24" per turn or about a 6.2:1. I know most people consider 5.0:1 or 4.7:1 to be good crankbait reels, but I don't like the idea of not being able to reel faster if needed.
  21. Thanks for all the replies so far. I hope there is more to come. I've been doing some more research today and what I am reading suggests that the JM reels don't have much if anything to offer over a PQ or CL. I wish I had a BPS close to me. Closest one is in southern Iowa about 4-5 hours from me. I have cabelas inventory memorized since it is a 5 minute drive from my front door. Their "in house" reels are nothing special in my opinion.
  22. Most of the skipping I do is under docks. Since I generally like to use baitcast reels I've tried improving on this technique. I've gotten better, but its easier to do with a 6' or 6'6" spinning setup. That being said, I'd rather use BC anyway. A 6'6" or 6' BC works better than a longer rod IMHO when your in close proximity to the target. If your farther away I don't think it matters as much. Close -up skipping is pretty much the only time I don't use a 7' rod.
