  1. I just won a 2011 7.1:1 premier on ebay and can't wait to get it. I haven't used one yet.(premier of any ratio) Last year I used reels that include a 50mg, 50mg7, revo sx, curado e7, citica 200e and a patriarch xt. After using the premier I'm going to try and get to the point where I'm only using a couple of different reels types for my whole lineup.
  2. This is the easiest thing to do unless you have a low capacity reel.
  3. I think its been said on this forum a number of times- As far as reels go, anything above the $150-$200 range and the bang for buck ratio starts going way down. As far as color goes, its nice to match reels to rods and what not, but I'm much more concerned w/ performance. Also, a scratch resistant coating is nice. The Patriarch xt seems to be scratchproof.
  4. The old chronarch 50mg is a awesome pitching reel.
  5. I read on another site that they come from the same factory that assembles Abu, Pflueger, BPS.....
  6. Good point. Isn't that more expensive than reg. one? I own some gear with the Cabelas logo on it, but if given the choice I would want a fuego that says Daiwa on it, not Cabelas.
  7. I'm ready to pull the trigger on one, but can't decide between the reg. or high speed.
  8. I believe my pflueger xt manual says 2, 3, 4, or 6. One across from each, every other one, 2 on 1 off 2 on 1 off, or all on. Thats what they recommend anyway.
  9. I also do the old carpet trick. Another good one is to have your buddy hold the rod tip against his adams apple and talk to you while you hold the rod handle. It might attract some funny looks, but you can definitely feel the sensitivity difference in rods.
  10. I just picked up a Tierra to try. I have usually been a Shimano guy, but lately I've been broadening my horizons. I've been reading that a lot of people prefer Daiwa spinning reels over Shim. so I had to see for myself. I was also curious about how well Daiwa's anti-twist (or whatever its called) works compared to a shimano. I know it doesn't really answer your question, but just wanted to let you know that I did a lot of searching and found only positive things said about Daiwa spinners.
  11. X2. I've stated the same thing on other threads. The last 5 something to 1 reel I owned drove me nuts.
  12. Moss green is hard to see if any of your techniques require "line watching". Also PP bleeds over time so red can be bad for boat carpet. High vis. yellow w/ a flouro leader or use a green sharpy and color the line for a couple ft. from the lure.
  13. That's pretty good
  14. That might be one of the reasons that stuff w/ a box and paperwork tends to bring more $.
  15. I'm waiting for the same. They haven't been all that available yet. I did get a veritas and like the way it feels so I'm patiently waiting for the verdict. I realize these rods aren't the best you can buy, but for the $ they might be the best bargain out there.
  16. All these shows are somewhat staged. They kind of have to be. To what level they are is the question. I think PS is more staged than AP, but PS has the much needed diverse cast. A doofus, a wannabe, a know it all, and a grouch. Makes for decent entertainment. I like both shows probably equally. The places and people they meet on AP is entertaining also.
  17. Fishing Rhino is right. It goes to the owner. Your buddy would get in trouble if they can prove he new it was stolen when he bought it. It sucks when the cops jump to conclusions about about a person because he accidentally got his hands on something stolen. Some people are wary of Ebay, but Craigs List is by FAR more risky. Its hard to trust anything on that site.
  18. I bought one for my boy at Christmas. He thinks the twitchin bar is cool, but I didn't buy it for that reason. They were on clearance at the local Mills Fleet Farm for $35 and I thought it might be a decent quality reel for that $. It won't be used till spring though.
  19. I currently have no need either, but I can think of some past instances. I agree its cruel, but if used in the right situation its priceless. Just make sure your done w/ your sig. other or it may come back to bite the buyer.
  20. My thoughts are, like anything else, its is gonna come down to personal preference. Its seems over the years Ive transitioned from that fast and XF to more of a moderate. I prefer to allow the fish to have a bit more time to eat the bait, so a bit more bend in the rod. Thanks SeanW. I won't start a new thread so it'll end here.
  21. Probably better to start a new thread for that. Sorry, the more I typed the more I started thinking the same
  22. I'm gonna go a little off topic here, but I'm interested in others thoughts. Different rods companies that offer technique specific rods tend to have varying opinions on action for certain applications. Specifically spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. I've seen SB & BB specific rods that are xfast while other companies's are mod. fast? I guess I can see both sides, xfast would give you a more accurate cast and mf would help prevent pulling the bait away too quickly. What are others thoughts?
  23. Northern MN and into Canada is heavily populated w/ pike. Especially low pressured areas like BWCA. The low press. areas also have much larger pike on average.
