Ike - Opinion update
Guys that were at Guntersville tournament said Ike had another tantrum and it ended in him breaking the window out of his toyota truck he pulls his boat with : What a mature role model.....HA.... For those that watched the BASS elite series Guntersville event, Jason Quinn made a remark about being all over the fish like Ike on a toyota truck... ;D Mark Zona also made a vague reference about it.

bullets and fishing
back in 98, there waas guy that lived in my dorm freshman year of college was from over near Atlanta. His family had a problem with trespassers hunting on their land that year during turkey season. He was in the woods and thought he was calling in a turkey, well so did 2 guys that were hunting illegally. Well, he ended up in a confrontation with these two guys....he held had them had gun point, unarmed them and was going to make them walk out of the woods to call LE.....At some point on of them grabbed his gun by the barrel knocked him down and beat the ever-living crap out of the guy. He looked bad when he came back to school.

Anyone else notice this shameless promotion???
Spnbait101, havent heard that but it a good point .....if bio-sonix worked that well it would be banned from tournaments or everyone that could afford one would have one.... $800+ is an expensive price for a little confidence for the average angler or tournament angler.

Using superline w/mono leader...which knot to use?
Modified albright is the way to go...Add a little super glue if you aint so sure. Also if using a smaller braid or the knot keeps failing upon testing it...Double up the braided line and tie the albright, it will not fail....Tried to make it fail in salt and freshwater and it wouldnt....catfish,snook,bass,stripers,hybrid bass couldnt make it fail..... Most times I also only use a leader that is 4-6" shorter than the length of my rod at the longest, That way there is no reason for the knot to enter my guides. I usually use about a 3 or 4ft leader w/ a blood knot and havent had any trouble either, dont feel like its costing my bites either.

bullets and fishing
Most the time, unless you are in a boat, if someone wants to take you out, they will before you ever have a chance to know they are there. Especially in situations like Avid described. My main tournament partner has been shot at on a couple of occasions by a guy that lives 3 miles down the lake from him, Man has post-tramatic syndrome and freaks out when someone fishs a point that comes off his property...this is a huge public lake, and has a problem w/ loud outboards....I think he moved though. I am thinking hard about a CWP and am in the market for a handgun between now and xmas.....This area is getting bad. Some of the backwater I fish are places someone might be growing weed, cooking or doing meth..meth crowd is resourceful and desperate. Its really getting bad in this region...I dont so much mind the pot farmers, most of them kinda blend into the woods.....Its the geeked up tweakers that scare me. I used to do alot of hiking to flyfish for trout, had several times knowing I had a weapon would have made me feel better, water sources in NP's tend to attract weirdos. One homeowner here on Oconee shot at some guys running jugs that were near his dock, two blast with a shotgun. He was charged but I think just fined. 2 hours earlier It would have been guys fishing a night tournament who may have been hit because of where they would have been standing. All the snowbirds moving in on the lakes here, it really makes me pay attention to the docks i fish at night, now....Senility, firearms and ignorance can be dangerous....

A weedless crankbait...
Few months ago , Lure Designer Lee Sisson Let bassmaster do an article on some cranks he has started making, dont know if they are on the market yet. These things are amazing. Weedless trebles and a guide/guard wire hooked to the nose. He took a writer out to test it at Guntersville, and it sounds like the real deal...Google lee sisson lures maybe, he might be selling them by now.

flipping stick suggestions?
I prollie use my Allstar TAS827C more than any of my other flipping rods. I throw 1/4 oz stuff alot.... Will go smaller for some soft plastics. A good reel and the right line is another must for flipping light stuff.

PORTA-BOAT . NO LAUGHING MATTER
2nd the gheenoe....I have a 13ft....super stable....Will not ever sell it either. 2 people can flyfish from it with n problems..

Casting accuracy
Chris, Spool tension is almost non-exsistent when you are flipping like that...Its all in the thumb...thats the biggest thing to practice in my opinion, is timing you place your thumb on the spool....its all by feel after you get past the backlashes every other cast...

Casting accuracy
As many days as I fish a year(150-200) counting tournaments and as long as I have been fishing, I dont think the boat/distractions of actually fishing is my problem :....

Anyone else notice this shameless promotion???
I was just using IKE as an example of something I have been noticing for years.... The ad was one that alot of people on this forum would see.... Amazed by the some of the sheep-like replies...... : Love how some people that are fans of someone will twist things to make them sound good .... If it was so good, why didnt he use it in a tournament????? Bio-sonix is a joke, $800 for something that sounds like rattletraps....Only thing anyone really knows is that they are endorsed by KVD and now IKE, look at all the fish that have been caught before and since w/o one and i just cant take them serious when it comes to what they are pluggin.....Looking at Strike King's quality overall, I dont really pay much attention to what he is throwin/endorsing either.... So its not just ike..... As some of you also said, "paying bills"or something similar, Ike aint exactly a struggling newcomer or has-been and neither is KVD to put their names on some of the crap that they do. I just think it reflects poorly on them, the other pro's and doesnt set a real good example for kids that look up to them... I am not suprised, its the way society is today......w/ more and more cameras in the boats with these guys now, its gonna get harder for the old bait and switch to continue, the truth about what they are really using is going to come out more and more....

Casting accuracy
Most days I spend at least 15 minutes or so flipping a jig into a small coffee can from 15-20 ft away. The way my house is built, i can do this anytime no matter what the weather.... Its gotten so bad I can put a 1/4oz jig in a dixie cup at 25 and 30ft, most days ..... But still I have days on the water I cant put a cast within 5 feet(it seems anyway) of where I need to be at....It is really bad with a spinning rod.....Anybody else have this problem???? Adjusting my cast to lessen Arm/shoulder pain over the coarse of 8-10 hours on the water really hurts my accuracy.....That is all... Discuss......

Connecting Knot Caught in Eyelet
Had the same problem.....So I went to a shorter leader.....2-3ft at the most 6' on a 7' rod. Didnt impact my catch rate at all.

What are the best lines for spinning reels
P-line CX and P-line flourocarbon.....the KVD line spray works wonders too. But you have to untwist your line periodically like everyone else said... You can also put a small swivel a foot or so ahead of your bait when technique allows.

Bluegill Swimbait
Basstrix and Jackall make good looking bluegills too...plus basstrix has some great looking shad too.
-
Shallow Crankbaits
Shallow cranks I use the most: Norman fatboy Rapala DT3 and DT6 Ole Woody shallow runners Lucky craft flat cb's Bandit flat maxx....
-
Tungsten weights
Think the ones I use are T3's??? I dont know...I know they are not tru-tungsten... They have a sleeve that has never given me any problems. Always use plastic beads or the Tru-tungsten force beads...the wts will break a glass bead and cut your line pretty quick.

Jackplate question?
Manual jackplate....no switch needed... Have a river runner skeg guard, half propguard on it....so I am going to set just deep enough to run good,so i dont have to mess with it anymore......plus i will be able to run alot more shallow than i can now....Will make motor more efficient too. Duck hunting and exploratory/flyfishing trips can be ruined by a peak usage tide change, if you know what i mean....this jackplate will make getting out of some places easier if the water drops....waist deep mud is not fun....

Bait buying compulsive disorder.....
What buttons the bait monkey been pushing lately?????? ;D Lately its been soft plastics and jigs for me.... $10 is all it takes and I can buy 2-4 packs of some sort of soft plastics that i "need", really its been tryin new stuff .last few weeks it been craws...now its jig trailers.....sometimes i make it a game to see how much stuff i can get for $20.....This is how I buy most of my baits and terminal tackle unless I am restocking the usual stuff i need. Problem is that since foot surgery in feb, I have only been fishing 5 or 6 times, but i cant stop myself.... Another positive is if you spend you cash on fishing stuff, its too much trouble to pull out the plastic to buy junk food at the bait shop etc....good for your health...

If you were to choose...
Another thing to consider is which tournament trails you fish and which brand boat will get you the most contingency money.Which there are alot of rules too comply with..as a boater in flw stuff you have to be original owner of boat.... BASS-triton , Ranger - FLW, BFL, .....I think stratos is FLW too not sure... Isnt the ranger and stratos pretty close as far as hull design and such??? I have always heard a ranger is more durable than a triton, dont know personally...Rangers hold their value a little better and are easier to sale in my area... I fish out of one of the newer tritons alot and like them....But I am still going to go with a Ranger when I buy another boat in a couple of months, I like them also and there are more FLW events in my area, right now.... unless I find a better deal on a triton....

Jackplate question?
Ended up with a nice jackplate off of a procraft bass boat and my big aluminum boat doenst have hydralic trim.... Gonna put it on my river/hp restricted boat(18ft ploarcraft alum bass boat) since it has a long shaft 25hp..... Any tips?? any reason I cant do it myself??? Easiest way to do it??? Anything else i need to know???

How many year loan can you get on a Triton
I agree look at the 2003-2005 models. There are boat dealerships with alot of them that will finance them. A place north of here has payments advertised as low as $200 a month on a $20000 boat. I wouldnt go that low personally but its alot more doable than a $50000 boat for 15yrs. There are alot better boats than a tracker between what you are looking at spending....Look at G3,Express, and Triton aluminum before you buy a tracker..... I think the depreciation on a new truck, car or boat is more than 20% when you drive it off the lot.....Never buy a new truck or boat...

Jig question
I dont think it is too common...They actually work well and dont have long weedguards.... Have only seen them made by one company. Only thing I can think of is for bigger trailers or for a different trailer angle. Hooksets are pretty good, easier sometimes... I like them just cant find them much, wondering if the jig experts knew any negatives about them.
