chatterbaits suck
I think they are junk.....Will not buy one..Very specialized lure in my opinion...Fished one on a buddies rod a few times....wasnt impressed at all.I catch more and bigger fish on a blade and dont have to worry about my lure coming apart after i hook him....Only place I know they work well is around grasslines and such(Seminole), not much grass here at all in my part of the state, at least not anything fishable. I have seen them work during the shad spawn before the sun got up good, may be something when nothing else is working, you wont find them in my tackle bags or tied on my rods.....

Flyfishing for largemouths?
No....Most trails dont allow them....and if they do its a rod length cut-off of 8'.....Really hard to cast flies for bass with a 8' rod.....

Ideas for replaceing bench seat in gheenoe...
Have an old 13ft square back gheenoe... .. The back bench seat isnt about shot... Other two benchs are in great shape but the rear is in bad shape after i fell back into it last year. Anyone else ever replace a bench in a similar boat? Any ideas? suggestions? Would like to go with something better than what I started with...Comfort and function are way more important than asthetics......

float tube fishing
I have a 8'6" pontoon...waterskeeter type boat. inflatable pontoons...Worth the $250 i paid for it, Gonna sell it though.... Its alot safer and easier to fish from than a float tube in my opinion in ponds and slow moving streams....wouldnt trust it anywhere else.

JET DRIVE CONVERSION FROM PROP
I think it is still around $1500+ to have it done. That was last price I got down here. I know it cheaper if you can do it yourself. Really only good in rocky and sandy bottom rivers....they suck up vegatation bad. Also be prepared to lose around 30% of the 40hp you have now....

Are Bass Color-Blind?
Do all fish see the same? Do bass and trout, for example see differently? Obviously there are enviromental differences that may cause them to percieve things differently....but something else to think about is: I have been on trout streams some days that the shade of dubbing, tail, wings, etc. or some minute difference in the fly pattern would be the difference in whether you catch fish or not. Fished midge hatches where there are millions of small black bugs everywhere and unless you had the exact #26 midge immitation you were out for casting practice. So i think they see color more and see more period than we could ever imagine.....but due to the way their sight works differnt varables in their enviroment make the colors look different at different times, therefore some colors work better some days than other....

I had a good weekend. Did you?

Question for boaters
85% of the time, I fish alone in one of my boats..... other 15%, I am fishing with one of my 2 tournament partners in their boat. Most guys that did fish with me in my boats, wanted to use my stuff and not help pay for parking, gas, or anything and would complain, stay hung up.....so its cheaper and easier for me to fish alone for now..... Boats: 18ft Polarcraft bass boat, 13ft Gheenoe, and 8ft One man Pontoon craft.....Buying a 19'6 Ranger from a buddy in next couple of months....w/ gas prices going up at least i have toys to look at.... :'(

Flyfishing for largemouths?
In central Ga, you have the oconee, flint, ocmulgee rivers that have places to wade fish. When I was in college at Uga, we fished the Oconee around athens and the Broad river in Madison County for redeyes, lmb's, and piedmont bass. fished several ponds w/ flyrods....Just havent in a year or so, due to tournament fishing and carpel tunnel that led to surgery on both wrists. Shouldnt have to do too much different for lmb here. I caught smallies in NC on the same setups that I use for LMBs here. Havent fished for bass on Oconee or Sinclair w/ a flyrod, due to the fact the tournaments i fish dont allow them. Have caught stripers and hybrids in Oconee and sinclair on the fly. Usually around rocks near the dam and the rivers and mainlake points when power generation causes fish to school. I use a 12lb leader w/ a clouser minnow....sometimes I will fish a big popper with a clouser as a dropper around schoolies when the are pulling water.

braided line
I used power pro for 5 years before switching to the new Spiderwire stealth. I really like it for what i use it for. Also keeps its color alot better than other braids... Use 12 lb dia. 50lb test. on one of my flipping/frog rods. All my other reels have P-line Cx and P-flourocarbon.

Spinnerbait - painted blades
Pre-spawn, I like a small orange colorado blade w/ a big white willow or gold colorado on the back in muddy water.Fish kill the orange blade for some reason. Post spawn- 2 white, willowleaf blades.(shad spawn)

Fishing Trick Worms
Summertime they are great on a weighted T-rig and C-rig too. Some reason Black is my best color...One of my fav. carolina rig baits... Dont fish them weightless unless i have to. I use 8lb braid with leader.... Caught my PB 10.3 on a black zoom trick worm.

What do you think it's worth?
Good looking boat..I'd run it, if its reliable..even though I dont like the front deck setups on the older boats...But it will be 20 years old before you know it, so I think its still a little high after sales tax, but not like the tracker......I would buy it before the tracker.... Rebuilds depend on who did it and how they stand behind their work, that recent...How mand hours on it since? I know you can buy 97-02 boats about the same as the 91 and up to about 12,000 depending on boat. I am about to buy a 98 z-commanche 19ft, 150 merc....for $8000, 2nd owner.Friend has it now, he bought it from an elderly man that bought in new...... My thing about buying boats, motorcycles, and autos.....I do my homework and patiently look for the best thing i can find at the best price....Never buy from a dealer, you just pay more..Always buy from an individual.. There are alot of 8-10 yr old boats that are like new on the market, prollie gonna be more with gas prices. big thing is how they were stored/used...
-
What do you think it's worth?
I wouldnt give $11,000 for the Tracker new w/ a 90.... I just am not impressed by them at all for the price compared to other boats.... G3,Triton, Express.
-
What do you think it's worth?
I wouldnt give $11,000 that for the Tracker new...... probably not if it had a 90 on it... Thats just me, everyone I have ever been in seemed kinda weakly built.

2 ponds....what yall think?
RW, I have thought the same about #1 for a while......#2 I still dont know about, There could be alot there, that isnt visible on the surface, I did fish a similar pond for a long time, it does have a little visible wood cover...Yet I have caught alot of fish from 3-6 lbs and had a couple break me off that were really large. But thanks to treaspassers, its no longer an option.... After seeing the pic of the 12, i think there might be a few good fish.....yet the only fish i have caught from the 100acre lake where I caught my PB 10+, was the 10lber..... Its starting to look bleak........seeing i can afford to pull and run my bass boat right now.... :'(

2 ponds....what yall think?
I have two ponds that I am curious about what is going on with them......One is around 15 years old, stocked with bream,bass,catfish.... about 6 or 7 acres...water from 3-18ft deep....Alot of bottom structure and enough shallow cover for the size lake..but not alot of hard bottom. It produces lots of monster bream....So forage isnt a problem.... The biggest bass I have caught in 7 or 8 years of fishing is 2lbs or so.... I am about the only one that fishes there and have been removing the small bass periodically as suggested by DNR.... Think there are bigger bass???? Pond #2: 15 acres or so, 30-50 yrs old, some vegation and a some man made structure..soft bottom.. Never gotten many bites, is full of small crappie, big bowl shaped pond....But I know for a fact a 12lb largemouth was taken out 2 or 3 years ago.....No real points or anything, so its a big open piece of plain looking water.... worst part is it is surrounded by irrigated fields, which causes cattle waste runoff.... Are these waters out of whack or worth fishing???

Why they call them "bluegill"
hand-size sunfish= titty bream to some southerners Bass were not biting a couple weeks ago in one of my ponds, Friend and I used ultralight and hit the same spot two days in a row......caught 15 one day, 32 the next....everyone was close to 2 lbs if not more, all big bluegills
-
Trout Baits
dry flies and nymphs fished on light fly tackle (2-3wt).....bait is too easy and illegal most places I fish.
-
Monster crappie
dock lights,3 dozen bass minnows,small cork, and light bass tackle.......too much fun....Big crappie,hybrids,stripers,and a few LMB's....
-
is this a shad?
Bass, stripers, and big catfish love those things, I have caught several big largemouth on big gizzard shad......They have to get pretty big before a big LMB cant eat them.look at how big bluebacks get...... I have seen big bass school on the them between docks at night....kinda spooky when you see hand-size and bigger shad flying out of the water by the dozens with 5 or 6 greenback jaws in pursuit........One of the swimbait co.'s that *** carries has some threadfin and gizzard shad swimbaits....

Man competing in fishing tournament shot by fisher
ALready posted it in the tournament section.....You'd be suprised at some of the attitudes taken over this..... I fish the area it happens in alot, used to duck hunt up there....There are some crazy folks in that neck of the woods....

Knots for Fluorocarbon line
Palomar will work fine....just make sure you dont kink the line when tying your knot, always check for kinks, if line gets kinked above the knot by hook,wt, or lure, its gonna break.....as some say, nature of the beast......Most flouro is a pain on spinning gear compared to casting...all spinning gear is going to cause line-twist...

Stuck on one type of bait?
When I pond fish, I feel like the fish are a little dumber than the fish in the lakes I fish tournaments on. So I try alot of new techniques, different baits, or something i am not quite comfortable with yet, when i am fun fishing if possible. That way I have the hang of whatever it is i am doing before I go and start prefishing the big lakes I fish. I feel like doing this shortens my learning curve alot of times and maximizes my time on the water when it money is on the line.
