Reading water In Ponds and small lakes?
Fished a 15 acre lake today(a 12lber came out of there this past spring) and couldnt buy a bite :'(. Just couldnt put anything together. And have not idea as to the structure, cover, or creeks and no defined points really. Not much visible cover, really weird bottom contour as fair as i could tell with crankbaits, my anchor rope, and dropping a jig down a foot at a time, also felt very little cover on bottom..Water temp was between 48 and 50 degrees.. Lake ranged anywhere from 2 ft to 20ft just within a 2 acre cove. Didnt realize I had became so dependent on the electronics on my bassboat, maps, docks, and defined main and secondary points. Any tips on figuring out new small water without having spend the $ on a fishfinder?

Bandit crankbaits?
Anybody else use them or have an opinion on them. I really like Bandits and their price.Have caught some really good fish out of timber on a bluegill flat maxx. A local tackle shop gets a few hard to find colors and all models are priced around $5.00 or less.

One Thing That Makes You Better
1. Time on the water, I get to spend at least 15-20 hours a week on the water. 2.Practice and more practice..... At least 3 or 4 times a week after dark, I will sit in my living room and flip a jig into a coffee can placed at different distances and under/around certain obstacles. 3. Flyfishing for trout really opened my eyes to alot of factors that transfer over to bass fishing one way or another(especially figuring out .....Presentations, fish postition, reading the water, using current/wind to an advantage etc.).....In my mind all these things and more are relevent to bass fishing as well as trout fishing. 4. Keep a detailed journal or log of dates, weather conditions, water conditions, what I caught and what i caught them on.

Drop-Shotting Crawdad-Style Baits?
Carolina rigging a soft plastic crawfish like the Zoom ultravibe speed craw has been very productive for me in the past. I like wat/red for clear water and black/blue flake for stained water....Pays off to present it in a lot of different ways, sometimes quick sweeps.....other time they like a calm, traveling motion so to speak.

Floating Senko-Style Bait?
I agree with Avid, and add........ Any of the Senko knock offs at wallyworld or in local shops sometimes with the least salt and most durable are deadly when worked like a fluke at least in the Pearl/silver flake, wat/red colors....havent tried it with darker worms....Not sure you can pull off a true topwater presentation with it and not be too fast. I myself would not waste a true senko looking at the cost and fragility of the worm....just trying to work it topwater would tear up the worm, and I am sure a true senko wouldnt last but one good bite or fish fished this way....

Fishfinders?

Fishfinders?
I am prepared to spend $300 to 500 on two fishfinders for the boat i am buying. Will be fishing local tournaments out of it. What can I get by with? What are my minimal needs? what brands and models should i look at? Dont need GPS or anything, just something to help me locate fish, bait, and bottom contour and structure. Thanks.

what to fish
If water temps are not really high, I will throw a buzzbait and a fluke all day.....If i have fish roll on them or miss the bait, I have a white senko that i cast and let sink then I shake the rod tip vigorously for 5-10 seconds then let it fall again, 8 out of 10 times the fish will knock the fire out of the senko.

Large worms/ snakes
Anyone know of a company that makes and sells worms and/or snakes larger than the Zoom Ol Monster or Culprit 10.5"? Floaters if possible.

Fly wetters?
Flyfish alot if I am not practice fishing for a tournament...Caught my biggest bass to date on a olive wooly bugger i tied myself....9.5 lber on a 5wt.

How much do you fish?
Almost everyday. If I dont hit one of the 2 local +15000 acre impoundments, I am fishing a pond or small lake from my Gheenoe or when its warm my kickboat. If I am not "practice fishing" or trying out something new, I flyfish using anything from a 2wt to a 8wt depending on size of flies i am using.

best flippin worm
When flipping worms I use Zoom's Ol Monster and Mag II's in red shad, junebug/red, midnite emerald,or black shad.......Never had any luck on other colors. Got a compact offering try a Zoom Ultravibe speedcraw texas rigged with a small bullet wt.....Use a little bigger weight and you can flip horny toads and get alot of big bites.
