How durable is the spray paint? I've been using a spinnerbait (my avatar) with great results. Its a tungsten weight, but it didn't take long for the paint to start chipping off. Is there any special prep work you can do to get a more durable finish, or should I invest in powder paint? Sorry bocabasser, I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I'm assuming you would like this info as well.

Believe it or not, bass up here will blow up on the surface this time of year feeding on damsel and/or dragon flies. I ususally see this around lilly pads. I've caught a few bass with these flies in their mouths, so I use poppers around the edges or I may run a spinnerbait just under the surface right in the lilly pad field. I will say tho, that these bass are not in the 4 pound class, so I'm guessing that they are chasing bait fish like others have said. We don't have shad, so bluegill, pumkinseed or golden shiners maybe other baitfish that could be present.

With all due respects BIG M, but I find a bigger hooks on a a dog walker kills the action and/or produces too much drag, but that is based on my limited experience, what are your thoughts? Please, I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm learning each day as well and I know you have more experience than I do.

Depends on who I'm with. If I'm with a buddy who knows how to fish then we yuk it up and have fun, but If I'm with a buddy who doesn't know how to fish then it's a different story. They tend to have short attention span and want me to get them to a spot and have instant results. I hate fishing with those peeps only because it's not fishing at that point. I'd rather get skunked and fish, than the "I'll last 2 casts" guys.

Looks great! Wood walkers are tricky, I tend carve more topwaters than anything else. I found that you need to play around with the ballast more towards the end of the bait. I really like walkers that are almost at a 45* angle sitting in the water and then I play around with the weight from there (45* to say 30*). My advice anyway. I'm sure others on this forum would be more definitive. For your first topwater, I'd say awesome! Great job bud!

I'll use the same as I've been using since iceout. 1/2 oz jigs and spinnerbaits in spring and fall (smaller during summer months), tubes, buzzbaits, dog walkers, worms. Hopefully A-Jays set-up he posted on a jig thread. Looks SAHWEET!

I do match (for whatever reason) all the time, however, I will use 2 different colors if I'm swimming a jig on occasions. It's a good question, but if I happen to be on the water and ran out of a matching trailer, I would add something similar...i.e. dark trailer on a dark colored jig. Whatever I think the bass can see at different water levels, clarity and/or sky conditions. Why, did the Jig Fashion police show up on your fishing trip?

Nahhh! Being sorry would be posting my spinnerbait with 2 blades on an interlocking clevis system (no rear blade on a swivel) made with a tungsten weight, red bead and treble hook with the bottom facing down hook removed. That will get some laughs...as well as some bass...LOL
