I had this wake follow my spook jr, so I followed it up with a tube. 20"L x 13"G: Would have been a nice way to get on the board....LOL Oh well, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any.

No apologies necessary LWD. Unfortunately one or the other or some other type of lure will catch lightning in a bottle on any given day. You just have go through a process of elimnation as to what will work on a given day or hour or location or conditions of the day. Just learn as many lure and techniques as you can and be a well rounded fisherman.

grimlin, Red Did you start dipping thinking it would help you quit the smokes? I would guess it would have been a good strategy to us dip as a nicotine boost, like the Patch or Nicorette gum or something like that? I guess nicotine is nicotine and cold turkey is probably the best way to go if you're trying to get off of it.

mcliff I just read my post and it's a bit misleading. Houghtons Pond is in Milton and Ames Pond is in Stoughton. Ames is a great place early and later in the season and Houghton's is great year round. Sorry for the confusion. I must have suffered from vapor lock...LOL

I was a fly fisherman and the ponds and lakes I fished at were way too seasonal, so I purchased a spincaster and a Zell Rowland signature Pop'R and caught my first bass. I fished it it few more times with success and purchased my first baitcaster. Haven't looked back... Good thread!

Last year I was killing them on topwater, now I can't even get a legal size fish...man, this stinks, I waited all winter for this?

I was talking to my buddy who owns a gas station and he was telling me that cigarette sales was down but snuff was up. I don't do either, but I have a few friends who do dip. Why would you think that is? I know cigarettes are pretty bad, but dip has it's own issues as well? If you dip and have been for a while, do you regret it at all? Be honest!

So what's wrong with testing them in a lake or pond around the area? I thought you were trying to get into spinnerbait and jig building...LOL

I agree with the above estimates, but if you're in a pinch like that and don't have a scale or measuring tape, take a piece of fishing line and measure the length and girth, cut both pieces at the measurements you took, stuff the 2 pieces of fishing line in your pocket and take them home to measure. L x L x G/1200 will give you a close estimate. Nice fish BTW!

Hey Mike, that's great that you're getting back into it, especially with you son. i got my son into fishing last year when he was five. I take him to Houghton's Ame's Pond when we bank fish and If we have access to a boat or canoe, we go to Norton Res. Great fish in that res and not a lot of boaters out there that will wash you away, if you know what I mean...LOL We have a couple of folks on here that fish in the Easton area, So I'm sure they know some spot in/near Brockton. Believe it or not, I hear the little pond in front of Home Depot in Avon is producing some nice fish. Welcome aboard!

I believe that most of your questions you are asking are legit questions but we as fisherman read a lot about how to fish for bass. Most of the authors of those articles or books are from other fishermen's experiences and/or beliefs. I read a lot of those books and articles, but I take some of the info with a grain of salt. Like Raul indicates in his post, the match the hatch theory is what it is, a theory. Why would a bass hit a bubble gum colored soft plastic in shallow clear water. It doesn't exactly match the hatch, but a bass can see the color of bubblegum in shallow water pretty darn good and still hit it. Drop that bubbleum in deep water and you may go fishless or at least not get a lot of bites. bubble gum at deeper depths just doesn't exude much color, in fact it may just turn into a primary color or invisible the deeper it gets. Wearing bright colors: Skeet Reese wears bright yellow, he seems to be doing alright...LOL. I was sight fishing during the spawn and pitched my jig to a bass that was 4' away in clear water. I was wearing a sky blue golf shirt standing up on a bank with the bass facing towards me. It took me about 15 mins of snapping the rod tip and barely moving that jig before that bass would hit it, so from that day on, I beleived that I got the bass because my presentation was the deciding factor in getting that bass and any other bass for that matter. With all that said, I do try and tip the odds in my favor by going by the book when it comes to line diameter and color, baits and bait colors that I think will work as well as my appearance and movements on the bank. It may not make a lot of difference in the world, but some days you just never know. JMHO

Don't count to three so fast...LOL With reaction type baits, I generally, for the most part, wait until I feel the rod load up before I set the hook. They should hook themselves if you're getting that viscious of a strkie. So wait until you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook. No need to swing for the fences either, a good tug and that fish is buttoned. Hope this helps...
