New game tonight and hopefully a best of 3 series after it. Grapes (Don) Cherry was saying how Thornton went by the Canucks bench prior to the hit and jawing at Rome and another player. I didn't see it, but I'm sure Rome couldn't wait to get out on his next shift to nail someone. Unfortunately, it was Horton and the way he did it.

LOL...it happens, man...I painted a few spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, scuffing up the surface really helps. Good luck!

So the rest of the snow up there melted today...

For three years I couldn't get a bass to strike a buzzbait and it used to be such a great tool for me, not to mention a lot of fun to fish with. This past weekend I decided to ponder why this virus has plagued me and other anglers I know, for so long. I fish spinnerbaits a lot and figured out that close to 90% of my spinnerbait bites come on a gold blade, not a nickel blade. I decided to mute the buzzbait down by painting the blade white. I also looked back at my buzzbait catches and found that most of them came on a lime green and black skirted buzzbait. So I switched out the skirt to a watermelon candy over a few strands of pearl Instead of all white. I tried it out at lunch time for an hour and BINGO, bass were hitting it again. I only managed 2) 1.5 lbers and three other boils, but none of the less, it was 2 more than I had in three years. I'm not gonna preach here that the changes I made were a direct result of bass hitting it again, but I can at least have confidence in using the blasted things again.

Winni is a big lake and its probably the best NH has to offer IMO. It has a great small & large mouth population. Because the lake is so big and your new to fishing, it can be a bit overwelming. You should take Crestliner2008's advice about getting a guide for that lake. I haven't fished there in quite a while, but if I remember correctly, If you do decide to go it alone, maybe try and stay around the boat ramp in Wolfboro. There are a lot of good spots just around the ramp you can hit. I'm sure some of our NH members will be posting on this thread, but I hope this helps.

No offense dulouz, but you asked this question already and you didn't take our advice. Please take your latest advice from Big M and jbass, and you will get the results you want.

It doesn't matter Fat-G, there are too many peeps on this site who would like to debate that. lynyrdsk1 did the right thing by undersizing that one. Pics are hard to tell.

That's twice they've melted down...I do give the B's credit for the last 2 games. Both were nail biters and considering the Nucks are heavy favorites, they are getting all they can handle. A true hockey fan can not complain about the competitiveness of this series.

PondBoss, I look at arky heads like a crescent wrench. You can adjust it to suit any condition and get results, however, as the season progresses and those conditions change, you have other wrenches (jig head styles) to get the job done with more enjoyable results. You can still use an arky, but I personally would switch to something else. Early and late in the season is where I use arkies. I personally don't think they can be beat. I'm sure other anglers here would prefer something else, but arkies in early and late season is my jig style of choice. For your "snot grass" pond you frequent, I would highly recommend using the type of jig head River Rat316 recommended, the pro grass head. You'll still be picking up the grass in that pond, it's inevitable, but perhaps it won't be as frequent. River Rat316, my apologies if I stepped on your toes on this.

I fished there a couple of days prior and the bass are in post spawn, so they are a little harder to catch. I did mange to get a few on a jig and twin tail grub, but none would take a spinnerbait or spook jr. Lots of pickerel on the spook jr made the day a bit more interesting. They will be back along the outside weed edges, mostly on points and inside turns pretty soon. Low light conditions will have them moving a bit more along these weed edges where you can get your topwaters and spinnerbait type lures to work for you. You're right Dwight Hottle, Roland Martin makes a pretty nifty paycheck putting those fish right up against the camera making it look like an 8 lber...LOL...SON! I was watching a Jimmy Houston episode and he mentioned that. Right after he mentions it, he starts laughing in that high pitched laugh of his. I was cracking up.

I personally don't like Arkies around or in weeds, but I do like them around woody or rocky areas. The head is based around a 60* line tie hook which tends to hang the jig up in weeds. I prefer a jig head with a 30* or less line tie hook and a more bullet shaped head in weeds. I will use an arky early and late in the season or around sparse, weedy cover. I also really like arkies for drifting in current. To really answer your question PondBoss, you can use any jig in any situation, but you have more options with jig head design for each situation which will make the day a little more enjoyable.

Prior to this tourney starting I was getting a lot of bass to hit a topwater. The last 2 or 3 times I went out I was getting the slime darts by the motherload. Not bad once in a while, but I had to put my spooks away to save some of the paint on em...

Call it a 9.6 and have a fond memory of it, my friend. If it's really killing you to know, take the 4 weights and average it, either way, it's a nice oinker indeed!

Great night time bait, krisjack69. Up here they tend to hide during the day and come out at night to forage for food, but I fish a craw pattern a lot during the day with pretty good results. Give em a whirl.

You probably answered your own question. The one's that you're landing, the hook is probably like a half inch down from it's lip where the cartilage is a little thicker than near the lips. Hooking a fish near the lips is more than likely elongating the hole near the lip during the fight or even at hookset (no need to swing for the fences if you don't need to). It's gonna happen especially when you fish heavier jigs that the jig will fall out during the fight. The good news is, you're hooking them, the question you have to ask yourself, do you really want ot wait a little longer before setting the hook to make sure that jig is down further and risk losing the fish? Eventually you'll get the feel for it and it won't be as much of a problem. Jigs, more than any other lure, takes more concentration to fish with. JMHO. I really don't think you should change anything you're doing. You already know that you can hook a fish on a jig and it's already in the back of your mind that you need to play the fish with a little more caution. Keep at it and it will come together for you.
