Best Times, Places, Conditions For Crawfish Baits

Recommended Posts

I've never used crawfish baits. I'd like to try some of the soft crawfish lures out there, but don't know when the best time to use them would be. I fish large ponds in south Georgia. Water is not clear, but not super muddy either. I can see at least 3 ft through the brownish water. Pumpkin and watermelon have produced with the Baby Brush Hogs.

Spring and Fall would be the best times.

Thanks. No hurry to start tossing them then.

When do u see crawfish in Tifton. You make fool a bass or two with a crawfish bait at anytime but there are other baits at certain times that will be better.Crayfish feed on living and dead animals and plants

If a body of water has a good amount of craws, then any time of year you will catch on craw imitators. As always, try to 'match the hatch' in size and color. When you catch a bass, always check to see if there are claws in the back of it's throat, this can be the best way to gauge size and color of the craws being hunted by the fish.

I catch plenty of fish in the dead of summer in water with no crawfish in them with craw baits.

The Rage Craw and Zoom U-Vibe craws are my favorites. Both are very versatile.

Y’all be funny ;)

Craw worms are the most underutilized & yet one of the most effective big bass lures in your arsenal!

Rest assured bass do not know if there are crawfish in your body of water or not!

Rest assured bass do not know when crawfish are out or not!

Why do y’all think almost every plastic lure manufacture sells some version of a craw worm!

What makes a jig so effective is they mimic crawfish & so do craw worms!

What do y’all think most “creature” baits mimic?

When flipping, pitching, & punching what y’all think y’all are trying to imitate?

So yea y’all keep believing crawfish baits are only for spring & fall or if you lake has crawfish or not.

As for me I will keep kicking bass with them year around ;)

I dont fish with crawfish baits.Never fished with brush hogs or jigs but I know spring and fall are when crawfish are more plentiful.Bass love crawfish and I am sure no matter what time of year it is they will eat this.

Great night time bait, krisjack69. Up here they tend to hide during the day and come out at night to forage for food, but I fish a craw pattern a lot during the day with pretty good results. Give em a whirl. :)

I find that Summer is the best crawfish bite, here. Deep football heads, and river bends are great with a craw immitation. Baits with craw action like speedcraws, may immitate fleeing blue gill; moreso, than craws IMO. Either way, they bite em all year long, if you can get under the ice.

Lotta stores I go in down here don't carry them. They carry Brush Hogs though.

Whenever the water is wet.

Use them year round in any conditions.

I agree 100% with Catt! The 2 best ones I've used are the Strike King Rage Craw and the Zoom Speed Craw. I use the Zoom if I am trying for a smaller look and a lil less action. My main colors are Watermelon Seed/Red Fleck in the Rage. And my go to colors for Zoom are Watermelon Candy, Purple Cinnamon, and Watermelon/Red Fleck. Fish them with a Tungsten sinker and you'll be in good shape.

Craws are out from the spring up to the late fall. Craw baits catch a ton of bass all summer. If you don't fish a craw bait in the summer, only you are missing out on some great bass fishing!

I guide at night alot in Wi.and I do night trips and the craw is one of my go to baits. Brush hogs, jigs,Paca, baby paca's,and the list is too long!

Let the bass tell you what they want. When you're livewell is full of regurgitated crawfish, they're not puking them up to make room for bluegills.

I've caught bass in 32 degree weather with a thin layer of ice on parts of the lake with a jig and plastic craw.

I find crawdads all summer long under rocks.

I say they work all year round. B)
