Hard to say which is my fav, altho 5 & 6 would kill em up here. Great work. I just finished my first foil job, so I'm still learning, but you certainly have the technique nailed down pretty darn good, for sure.

Very nicely done! One question, it appears in the pic of the lure in the water that you have a larger hook in the rear instead of the front? I don't fish many swim baits at all, but does the larger rear hook stabilize it more or am I seeing an illussion on the pic and both hooks are the same? Great looking bait either way. I like what you did by letting the bait turn off to it's side, I did a couple of liplesss cranks that way with great results. They would track really nice and on a pause, fall off to the side, them "BAM" that lure would get it's paint takened off. Awesome lure you got there.

I was sight fishing beds the past 2 seasons and learned a ton from what I observed and experienced. I can tell you that I don't know how many fish I missed by not feeling a darn thing if I wasn't sight fishing as they would pick up my lure and move it without detection. I also found out that if you let that lure sit and snap your rod tip on a slack line so the lure, in this case a jig and craw, to where only the jig would rock to flare the pincers up, would I even get a fish excited enough to get their pec fins to start quivering. After, what seemed to be ten minutes of this cat and mouse game would I get that fish motivated enough to strike that jig with any kind of hostile vengence and yet some would just nail it. They are either hungry enough to nail it or get P.O'd enough to either move it or nail it. So for me, it's not lure or color, but presentation, persistence and patience. MHO of course.

My son Dillon who is 6 and just finished up playing his second year of T-Ball so he's still learning the game. We just came back from a Brockton Rox game who are the Double A affiliate of the Red Sox. We found front row seats right behind third base. In the bottom of the fifth the Rox left fielder made a really nice sliding catch to end the inning. I said to Dillon "c'mon, let see if he'll throw the ball to us". We both got up and yelled: "the ball, the ball!". The left fielder looked at my son, smiled and threw the ball at me! I gave the ball to Dillon who was speechless after that. I know that it was only a Double A ball player that did that, but he sure put a smile on that kid's face! The ball made it up of his shelf...

Well at least the ball is rolling. backwater4, thanks for posting your catch and I did enter it in the standings above, but please in the future include the girth measurement. If that fish was a 5 lber, I wouldn't have put that in. Thanks and keep catching fish.

I like transluscent baits as well. I like a little flash to start off with, and if that doesn't produce, I go no flash. I too, stay away from noisy baits. Long casts often work best and I like a little more speed if I'm fishing reaction type baits. With jigs and soft plastics, I like to keep the same colors I normally use. MY 2 cents.

They look great Marc David. They certainly will change the whole profile of your bait. I posted this in the tackle forum not to long ago, but here's one I've been using on a spook jr: You can see the before in my avatar, the tail really changes the bait. Keep up the good work, you'll find endless ideas. A jig I tied last year which really produced for me: Good luck and have fun tying!

I know what you're saying and your doing better than most. My opinion doesn't matter much, but I think you should post those rats and get on the board. It's amazing how much they are a part of your family and then they're gone. I went thru it a while ago and stilll remember it to this day. I had a good dog and cried when he was gone. My condolences.

Oh man, islandbass, I was reading thru all the posts and before I go to yours, all I could remember was how many times I had a lure whizzing by my head on a missed hookset. I had one hit my sunglasses one day and can only imagine the damage. Now I see. Time to make a saftey change to my fishing. SOFLA, it's never happened to me, but I know darn well how close I came. To be honest, I've worked with table saws since I was 12 and back then there were no saw guards. Well, about 10 years ago, I had a piece of wood kick on me and pulled my finger into the blade. Thankfully, I lost a couple of layers of skin, that was it. But now it's safety guards and saftey glasses all the way. So if it's barbless hooks with you, I say go for it.

You definitely will have to make it and try it out. Don't let any peeps talk you out of it. Make it, fish it, refinine it if need be, but don't give up. I made a jig in the spring of 2010 that had the effects of a tube. It was made with a jig head, regular silicone skirt, chenille, foam backer rod you use for filling gaps around windows and doors and rod builders thread. I tried it out on Easter Sunday that year and caught a nice 7 lber with it. It looked good, but it was kind of off the wall, so I never posted it in here, but it's still a fish catcher to this day. So I say go for it!

I read about making a mold from plaster and will be trying this out on a jig head that is made for stripers. I think this jig design would be awesome for a spinnerbait head. If it's good enough, I will have my brother in law duplicate it in aluminum at his machine shop. Maybe you can try it as well.
