Basspro Rods And Reels
Hooligan is right. "Pure" fishing itself does not make any of their own products, they are a design and marketing firm. Their designs are farmed it out to a manufacturer, too add to that EVERYONE with the exception of Shimano and Daiwa does that. And even that may have changed with the recent models. You simply need to come up with spec and contact a Korean, Chinese, or Indonesian manufacturer and BOOM you are a reel or rod company. So that Tec Spec rod is NOT made by Quantum, because Quantum doesn't make their rods, they may however come from the same plants and maybe even wrapped by the same person, Quantum on Monday, F&S Tuesday, Kister Magnesiums on Friday afternoons (JOKING). The BPS/Pure thing works like this: Pure designs the Pflueger/Revo Awesomo reel. Then gets a bid from "Dai-Yung"(made up) industries and they sign the contract and start producing the Awesomo. BPS then contracts with Dai-Yung and since Dai Yung already has the tooling and manufacturing set up for the Awesomo, they can base base the BPS "Carbonlust" model off the tooling and parts they already produce. Hence the similarities... Snowboards, Skis, Cars, MP3 Players, Bicycles, Sportswear, the list goes on and on, all are produced by companies in this manner. When I was in the cycling industry, I'd see the guy riding on a Specialized just spewing hate about Giant Bicycles... This guy was getting insufferable to listen too, so my co-worker showed him a picture of Giant's production facility in China and on the assembly line were rows upon rows of that dude's Specialized. THAT was golden silence...

Help Me Round Out My Arsenal
Just a thought... Get a 6'9" MH and a 7'3" H Daiwa Smallmouth VIP and use them for few months then flip them (if you want) when your "fish-posible" income returns to normal. They are really nice rods, for $50 each with the Lifetime Warranty... they are plain crazy deals. You have your Flipping stick and a Spinnerbait rod. I have a Spinning rod from this series and I love it. http://www.daiwa.com/rod/detail.aspx?id=254

New Bps Xbps Extreme Rods
The ones on sale for $60 are a great deal. I have a 6'8" MXF spinning rod, I am not sure they even produce that model in the Extreme anymore, but it my favorite weightless plastic (Ika, Senko, Fluke) rod. If your Budget is around $100 I will echo what I stated in your micro-guide post. Look at the Lamiglas Excel, you will not be disappointed!

Carrot Stix Wild Black Rods Any Advice
For the same $$$$ you could get a Lamiglas Excel. American made and a fantastic company behind them. A 663 or 664 would be what you're looking for. I have a 703 and LOVE that thing!

Strike King 5Xd's
I had one do the same thing, we ended up hanging it up by the line tie and putting a papertowel under it and looked for drips. I found that the hole was at the rear hook mount. Just a tiny amount of epoxy and it was as good as new/the other non fillers. Just hang it and see where the leak is coming from and seal it.

Element 21 Carrot Stix® Wild Black Casting Rods
So 8 grams is ~10% of the rod's weight? That makes it a 2.81oz rod... Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. If they are refering to just the blank, then that weight is not very impressive. The Ad copy is pretty sketchy.

New Idea ?!?!?
I have used really big flies on a Drop Shot with some success. To be honest though, ratio between the cost of the Fly and the catch numbers just don't don't make it really worth it for me. IT does psyche some of my tournament competitors out when they see it on the rod prior to launch

Fly Fishing
For your neck of the woods and what you'd be going after an 8wt will work. For smaller trout, I'll quote my brother, "Dude, that's like using an Elephant Gun to kill a Canary." My #1 casting tip is this: You DO NOT want the tip of the rod moving in and arc, you want the tip to remain on the same plane/level through out the cast. You will have much better accuracy and softer landings if you keep it all in plane.

Looking For Some Carrot Stix Micro Feedback

Best Five
Last Spring (Late April) 3 days after the ice went out on my local pond I got 6 Fish weighing 26.2lbs. The biggest 5 would have been 24lbs. The biggest was 6.2lbs on a hippy jig, the rest were all 4.5+ on 6" Hudds. Not bad for 40 degree water in Vermont! Here's a 4.9

Ca Dfg Urggggg !!!!
This is exactly the issue. My mother in law is buying some land in NorCal on the Eel River and by all accounts it's a sandpit with a little water running through it. Blow up some dams and re-plant the river/stream banks asap!
