Talons / power poles / anchors
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142161514206 Get a push in anchor or 2... see if you'd use them. If you do use them and wish it were faster to use... save up for poles. If you just drive around with these, the you answered your question.

Any action in northern VT?
I live 6 minutes from Arrowhead, there are giants in there that eat right now. They are off to the south of the High bridge in the shallows. An 8.3 came out of there last spring. The Mill River and it's Delta will have fish before most areas. This weekend the Sea should be open. Down near Ti I hear of 42 degree water already. Fairfield Pond is great for Kayaks and had huge LM in it, it should be open now. The mouth of the Lamoille is a great Kayak spot earlier (May-Early June). Monkton is on right now. I have a ton of little ponds around that are awesome for Kayaking, message me if you want. Don't go to Berlin Pond with Nate...

Jig vs Jer bait
This is a Ford VS Samsung question. Different uses at different times. Sometimes use a JB to make a fish show itself then throw a jig at it.

SuperLine hook?
Superline or "standard" EWG will work with your braid. I use Superline models to change the fall/glide of some baits without having to deal with a weighted hook or weight on the line. Superline hooks are a bit heavier. If you were in some THICK stuff with heavy cover, then you might want to invest in a pack for that.

Veritas or Fury Jig Rod?
The Dobyns Savy and Sierra lines are the same blank materials, just different guides and cosmetics. Sensitivity between them and a Fury is negligible if any. Fury vs Veritas for jigs. I'd go Fury with a big however... I have owned Champion 734, 705 and Fury 735 models, 2 of my closest friends are Dobyns Pro Staffers so I have used most of the lines/models. A 734 would be only "ok" for smaller jigs, but no way would I use it for anything over 1/2+trailer or with a big hook. 735 would be good for like 3/4oz total weights as would the 705. Dobyns do have a more moderate taper to them (like Phenix, Powell, Lamiglas) than you would get with a Shimano, St Croix or Abu rod, so understand that going in, your style or feel may not get along with them. I guess I am trying to say that in the Fury line I don't think there is a really good jig rod (my opinion). Their 744 Champion and 745 Extreme, well those are amazing jig rods, but have no comparable model in the Fury or Sierra lines.

New Boat/Trolling Motor ?
Build an insert for the recessed tray?

New Boat/Trolling Motor ?
Get the Garmin Echomap 73SV for console and Striker 7DV for bow. Link them with a single wire, so you can share waypoints between them. I'd start out with a Striker on the front and save for the nicer unit for the console. You can just run the Navionics App on your phone so you can get contours and store waypoints that way. MinnKota makes a quick release plate that allows you to mount the Terrova without having to drill new holes on the bow. Look into that. If you sell the old TM, understand that the market for basic TM's is pretty non-existent and that you won't get anything really for it. I'd keep it as a spare should anything happen to the Terrova.

Ranger 375v Restoration
I have a 374v. Definitely put a recessed TM tray in then you can easily access the foam you need to dig out in order to extend your rod locker. Once that is dug out, go in rod locker, remove the carpet at the front of the bulkhead. Use a drill bit that you use to drive a hole for a doorknob with and drill one hole on the upper right corner of the bulkhead. Use a hacksaw blade with a clothe around the blade as a handle to expand that hole as needed and not accidentally hurt the hull or anything.

Personal favorite reel brand
Daiwa and Shimano.

New Daiwa reel?
A Fuego CT has more ratios, Aluminum Frame, CT spool (can get an SV spool for it) and is an Oz more in weight for $65 on the regular. Why was this reel needed? That all sounded rather angry... but all they have done is make a plastic Fuego.

Opnions on these two boats?
Triton is a safe bet. Good idea.

Minn kota Maxxum Tracker PT175
You fish the ponds around the area (Cape Cod, etc.) then a 42 should work just fine. You go up to Winni, Candlewood, Champlain, Quabin) you still MIGHT be ok with the 42, because if it get's choppy enough to make a 42 ineffective, you are probably pushing it with a 17ft tin out there anyway. That's how I would look at it. The other thing to consider is if the 52 would hang too far over the side when collapsed and you'd have to re-drill the TM mount. I had to do that when I went from 42" Motorguide to 52" Maxxum.

Nitro? Ranger? So confused now
I own one of the classic old Rangers. I live on a body of water known for breaking boats. I see a good # of Nitro's around, a couple pushing 20+ years. Tons or Rangers too. I have seen transoms on Rangers crack from the hull to the top cap, heck I saw one sunk. I've been in Nitro's that you could feel twist in 2-4 footers (2017 model). Neither is perfect, especially now. Where you USED to be able to get a lot of parts for Rangers they have stopped making parts and don't have sources anymore. (Front panel for a 300 series, Inserts for many models aren't made anymore). That being said, that's really old stuff to stock or keep track of, so it's not anything I'd call a deal breaker. Most recently the fit and finish of Rangers seems to be slipping. I just don't see anything special about them anymore, and a lot of guys feel that way. Especially with Pheonix, Bass Cat, Skeeter upping their games performance wise while being cheaper. Nitro's remind me of Honda Civics. Yeah they aren't the worst, and you can add bells and whistles to make them really fast/perform well. But in the end, they are still Honda Civics. I fished a BASS Open a few weeks ago with a Nitro guy. He said, that especially now with electronics being so expensive, that owning a Nitro and loading it up is not a sound financial decision. Where I live, there are NO bass boat dealers, there are guys that CAN GET Nitros, or Skeeters/G3's, or Lunds, but NO Dealers within 3 hours. SO a lot of our guys go to Penn/CT/Kentucky for boats and have a shop around here that does the work on the engines. It works out well for our locals. I wouldn't be too tied to a dealer, but I would be tied to a got mechanic.

Lake Champlain, NY
12" of terribly weak ice with 10" of crusty snow and a lot of really pent up guys... Paradise up here man, paradise. Should go quick, I'd say 2 weeks and we'll have a mostly open lake.

First Fly Fishing Setup
I grew up fly fishing, my brother is a very accomplished guide in Vermont and New Zealand. I have a lot of experience in this realm. Kickerfish has outlined step 1... what a you going to do? From there figure out a budget, mind you, line is incredibly important so don't cheap out. Rod is second most important, reel is least. I personally like Redington/Rio/Sage products, tons of guys like tfo too. Join bass on the fly on fb too.

First Fly Fishing Setup
Line is way more important than the rod and reel. Look at and learn the specifics first.

Avid X or Megabass Levante?
I want a rod for throwing 3/8-1/2 oz jigs with small trailers. I'm looking specifically at the Avid X 7ft mhxf and I think the Levante Tour Versatile. Anyone fish both? Opinions? I've already got heavier rods for bigger jigs and heavier cover, just looking for a lighter power set up.

Elite 7 TI vs Hook2 Tripleshot
The processor in the hook is less powerful with software upgrades over time it might not handle them that well/perform well. I'm friends with some Lowrance guys and I was mentioning units I was looking at, going down a list and it went like this... "Hook 12..." "Don't get a Hook." "wh...." "Don't" "Bu..." "Trust me." "ok."

Drop shot rod - Megabass Orochi XX drop-shot v. Dobyns DX702sf
The 702 and the 6'11" MF XX are really similar rods in feel, I liked the Megabass' handle because it allows for more grip options. The MB is a touch better in my opinion.

Ranger 375v Restoration
87 Ranger, check the transom, they were still wood then, when you pull the screws holding the transducer cables out, check for rot. Then pull the transom saver/support and bounce on the outboard to see if there's any movement/flex. If you see any please take to a repair shop before doing anything else. Clean the insides out when you have the lids off to do the re-carpet. Easier to get in there and clean/access, also when you are pulling off old carpet all sorts of junk falls in and you have to clean out again... Carpet from Bass Boat Seats, 16oz is basically what was in there stock. 20oz for a little plusher experience. A jar of Marinetex to fill in transom holes and small scratches in the gelcoat/glass. Keel shield isn't a bad idea either. Get the Pro Tec refurbish kit for the gel coat. Check the area the TM is mounted to see if the bolts are tight or if there is any cracking. If you are going to recarpet... SERIOUSLY look at installing a Trolling Motor Tray. Got any pictures of the deck and seats? I redid an 88 374v and am glad I did it, just the experience of re-carpeting the boat made me realize that I never want to do it again! LOL But by this Spring for ~4500 I'll have an 18fter with Linked Garmins, new carpet, 150 Merc, no holes anywhere and an 80lb TM with Tray, and a Powerpole.

Daiwa spinning reel
I have owned Stratics, Saros, Saharas, Sedonas as well as Daiwa Tierras and Capricorns. I took a flyer on the BG series from Daiwa this spring. My lord it's awesome, solid as can be, connected, no slop, smooth drag. The 2000 size is slightly smaller than the 2500 Shimano. Their weight is in line with 2500 Shimanos that have Aluminum frames. I now have 3 of them in my rotation and they remind me very much of the Stratic with a more solid feel (that's like saying a tank is more solid than an E class Mercedes, neither is flimsy). The new LT series from Daiwa are interesting but the spools hold a different amount of line compared to what they used to (an old, non LT 2500 holds less the the LT series 2500) while weighing less. It confuses me on what to buy in that range to maintain balance and have the right geometry/spool for the set up. I got scared and ordered more BG's. That being said ALFC has it's 10% coupon and Tatula LT's with a free cooler. That has peaked my interest.

How long for ice thaw?
If it was windy, then definitely. Otherwise might still be frozen. I walked across on of the larger bays on Champlain Saturday... Over 20" of ice still... (Goes back to the corner and cries)
