I've owned all the major brands and I keep coming back to Daiwa and Shimano (Zillion/Fuego/TDZ variants and Citica E's). I still have one Quantum on a Frog/4th string flipping rod and an Abu Royal Express on my swimbait rod and they are fine for those purposes. I love the consistency Shimano and Daiwa products have, if I get one I feel confident there won't be an issue.

The Battenkill is Orvis' entry level reel. That St. Croix is ~15 years old based on the cosmetics. The GL3 is a nice rod. None of the stuff is super high end but it's nice stuff. Personally I'd just hang on to it. You have 2 set ups that would cover all your needs the 3/4 wgt for Panfish and Trout, the 7/8 for bass. If you were selling I'd say $100-125 each for it to sell. The used market for fly gear is rather flooded.

I have a Dobyns Fury 735 and a 7'2" Hf Daiwa Tatula. I really like the Daiwa, it's the same power, but WAY stiffer/faster than the Dobyns. The Tat is lighter and I think feels nicer, for what that's worth. I do fish the Fury more though simply due to the fact that I techniques I love, fit the slightly slower action (keitechs and swimjigs).

I wouldn't discount the turnover of the country store. Lots of ATV's, small engines, and boats in the country where people run ethanol free.

Marine carpet isn't loops like indoor/outdoor is. So snagging a hook won't damage it all that much. If you shop around there are places that sell 20ft of 16oz for ~$125 and it's very good quality.

LOL yep we spend 7 months fishing and complaining about the wind and weather. Then spend 5 months talking about how we miss it and how awesome next season will be!

The Raymarine 8 days a week. You can create a tub/bath for the Transducer and shoot through the hull. No having to deal with snagging weeds and junk with something hanging off your boat.

Grab behind the head with or with a boca-type grabber. The stink is not like Smallie Livewell stink but it's close. Pike do have some great names though... Hammer-handles, Supertankers, horse coques... Catch enough of them and you can tell from the bite, immediately what you have.

I never asked about anything? I was pointing out the replacement cost (which St Croix sets at a level where they don't lose money)... is significantly higher for a rod that supposedly has the same blank as the cheaper one... the difference can't be due to the components alone. In case you weren't aware... the Rage is the same blank as the new Mojo.

Except they charge you $55 to replace the MOJO and $85 for the Avid... the component differences aren't $30 dude.

I have owned and used both 7ft/7ft1in medium Rage and Avids... they are nothing alike. Look at the warranty... if they are the same blank, why not have the same warranty?

Get the Rage for the same price. It's a 2016 MOJO blank which is the same as a 2015 Rage with better paint and maybr, just maybe was on the same rack as an Avid once... (seriously look at the Rage).

I think at this point if someone ever stumbled across this thread in their research of these rods, we have to assume that they are smart enough to figure out what is "useful" and what isn't. February on Bassresource...
