  1. Good thought Bass Thumb. I think I'll give it a shot. I will start on the box of jigheads I use least. Those are the ones that seem to be rusted most. If I have anything to report at the end of the season, I will. Cheers, GK
  2. The really strange thing is; Prep H was developed for use as a lubricant for small machinery. I wonder who had the idea for using it for what it's now sold for? I don't even want to speculate how that came about.
  3. I hate to disagree with ya man, but I gotta. Closing the bail by hand will not prevent line twist. The rotor puts line on the a fixed spool perpendicular to the line path. With the line guide roller bearing working properly, the line is twisted going on the spool and untwisted when cast off. It tends to balance out when the roller bearing is working. A sticky bearing produces more twist going on than will be untwisted casting off. Now you have problem waiting to happen. Closing the bail by hand does help prevent loops from forming on the spool. It's combination of loops and twist that causes the bird's nest. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  4. What has me concerned is the addition of scent and/or taste to the baits from this stuff. Many of us go to great lengths to avoid contaminating our baits with chemical scents. I would have guessed that a bait sprayed with KVD would get spit faster than it got bit. I'd be happy to be wrong about this stuff. Rust is always a problem. I have half a dozen DO NOT EAT packets in every box, but still have some occasional rusting.
  5. Brilliant!
  6. You folks are a little "different". I have better things to dream about than fishing. :D
  7. I like that. When can I expect the order?
  8. Preparation H does not work nearly as well as MegaStrike. The reverse is also true.
  9. Thanks for that link. I've been looking for something to fit in my Commander, and until now haven't seen anything I like at all. The 355 model looks perfect. I'll give my wife your name, and tell her it's your fault I just spent some more dough on fishin. :D :D
  10. The best advice I could give you would be to search this site for posts from Chris. He used to be a moderator here, and his crankbait posts are gold.
  11. Never used the Ardent product. I've been so satisfied with KVD that I've seen no need to try anything else. I do spray down my bulk spools of line as soon as I get one, or shortly there after. I have never re-applied it. During the fishing season I'll change line about every three weeks or so. KVD will definitely last that long. One question I've always wanted to ask is why do they call it Line & Lure? Why would I ever want to spray something like this on a bait? What earthly good could ever come of that?
  12. Both are correct if you ask me. But then I have to stand in the shower to count to 21.
  13. Bring back the TP of yore. 6 x 6 sheets. 120grit.
  14. 11/0 Owner worm hook. Weightless. Greased up with Megastrike. Swim it through the weeds. Don't set the hook too quick.
  15. Sir Snook doesn't like me letting the cat out of the bag about slow rolling a spoon. :D :D :D
  16. I haven't used a Ribbit in quite a while. Forgot about them if you can believe that. I mostly use Rage Toads now. I've been trying to trim down the number, or should I say pounds, of plastics I'm carrying around. I decided the Rage Toad was the one. I just got in a dozen of Ish's Phat frogs. They are not supposed to take on water. We'll see.
  17. You don't often hear people talk about them, but the Johnson Silver Minnow will catch anything that swims. The standard presentation is to swim it through weed beds. Very simple, very effective. Try one slow rolled at the base of the outside weed line. No twitches, no jerking, just a nice slow steady retrieve; just fast enough to keep it wobbling just off the bottom. It will get hammered. Uncle Josh used make something called a bass strip. It was a flat piece of pork about 4" long, 1/2" wide, with a v-notched tail. My go to trailer for the JSM. Haven't seen any of those for years.
  18. If I could keep the bluegill away from them, they'd probably be pretty good baits for finessing. In the places I fish most, the gills love these things. They bite the tails off.
  19. Been doing it that way for years. I've scratched up enough pins, and done enough minor damage to the edges of the spools that I've decided I need a better way. I have one of those Hedgehog tools on order. Not sure when it will arrive, but I will post a report after the first time I use it.
  20. For clear water, I really like these. http://www.***.com/Poor_Boys_Tube_20pk/descpage-PRBOYTB.html For not so clear water I want darker colors, and tend to buy whatever I find on sale. Zoom, Berkley, Strike King, etc. I gotta agree with grimlin on wave baits. I've bought several packs of different wave baits, tubes included, and can't catch a cold with them. I bought them because they were on sale. Well they're always on sale. That should tell ya something.
  21. If you don't like fleabay (like me) try here. http://www.japantackle.com/Tuning_parts/tuning_bearings.htm I've dealt with Japan Tackle before. Excellent customer service from these folks.
  22. One of the best things you can toss right back after a missed frog strike is an unweighted fluke. Twitch it along slowly just under the surface. Even better some times is an unweighted tube. Choose a large, light colored tube, twitch it sub-surface, and hang on. They rarely miss this one.
  23. Love everything about frog fishing except this: they fill up with water. That makes me use a solid plastic toad a lot more than a hollow frog.
  24. Somebody jump on this, and go fishin with this young man. I spent a day in the boat with him last summer at Trophy Country. Good company, and a good fisherman.
  25. No, but I know where you get this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Spool-exchange-tool-pin-puller-DAIWA-Alphas-/280654588369?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41585129d1#ht_2919wt_905
