  1. A jerkbait if the water is cool and clear. Otherwise a crank. I try to keep it simple.
  2. A trimmed down Rooster is my #1 choice for jigs 3/8oz and larger. But you didn't hear me say that. :D
  3. When I'm fishing a jig, about 90% of the time it's 1/4oz or less, so I guess I'm a finesse jig kind of guy. My #1 trailer is the Rage Baby Craw. There's something about this plastic, on a small jig, that just works for me. #2 choice is the tail piece of a Swim Senko. You have to see this combo in the water to believe what it does. I save torn up Swim Senkos just for this purpose. #3, the back half of a Smokin Rooster. I save the torn up Roosters too. You will need to trim these up a bit to work with a small jig. A little experimentation will teach you how to do it.
  4. Rowland, what's the matter with you, man? I see room for at least 7 or 8 more baits in those boxes. :D :D
  5. Heard a lot people say fishing with a Senko is boring. There is nothing boring, to me, about catching fish. Training wheels? Really? Puhleeeeeze! A Swim Senko, unweighted, is my first choice when I want a swimbait. My second choice? A Swim Senko on a weighted hook. Third choice? A Swim Senko on an Evo Shaky2 jighead. "nuff said.
  6. RushFan, another thing to consider would be to have that reel serviced. The HSTA is a nice reel; one I would put on the "best bang for the buck" list. If it feels like it's straining under a load, it may very well need a good clean and lube. Not what you want to hear at the beginning of the fishing season, but try to get it done anyway. Contact DVT, a board sponsor, for a quote, and maybe turn-around time. I service my own, but this guy gets a lot of positive comments on the quality of his work. That reel will last a long time if properly and routinely serviced.
  7. The plastics bag are stuffed to the gills, and the spinnerbait boxes are overflowing. I'm ready. :D
  8. Jeff, bring what you like. I'll be looking forward to tasting whatever you bring. Kelley, I'm sorry to hear you won't make it Saturday. I hope you can make it for at least some of the trip. We're set, I guess, for about 20 people. If I know my woman, and I'm pretty sure I do, then we will have enough grub for 20, plus several drop-ins. So, if you're not on the list, it won't matter; drop on by anyway. The more the merrier. I'm ready.
  9. If a 1/4oz willow spinner bait puts a deep bend in your rod when retrieving, it is neither MH nor fast. That sounds like a medium power moderate action rod, and should be just what you need for a small crankbait rod. Consider a new MH-F rod for your spinnerbaits. It will double as a worm/ small jig rod. 6.3:1 gearing is fine for either application.
  10. Got the reels I'm bringing cleaned, lubed, new line, packed and ready to go. Got the rods I'm bringing cleaned up, packed and ready to go. Got the coolers cleaned up and ready to go. Got all my tackle bags resorted, re-stocked, and ready to go. Got the wine picked, packed, and ready to go. Got my kitchen bag packed and ready to go. Got my clothes bag packed and ready to go. Can we GO already?
  11. Thanks Glenn. Just shows how observant I am, eh?
  12. In the old forum, there was an icon that indicated that the recipient had opened the PM. I don't see anything like that in this new version. Is there such an indication?
  13. just do a search
  14. Yes, it does. Next time we come to Florida, I intend to contact you. Cheers, GK
  15. Go to a memerb's profile whom you wish to add as a friend, and click on the "add me as a friend" button. I just added you.
  16. I like the concept, jst afraid to hear what the price will be. I know the entire fishing community has been on pins and needles waiting for another $500+ Daiwa reel.
  17. I have two. One I use for tip up applications, and I like it. The other is a deep crankbait rod, and it would be better if the guides were on the other side for this tip down application.
  18. have a price on it yet?
  19. Mary and I will bring all the food and munchies, and a mixed case of wine. CJ is bringing some wine. Uncle Leo is bringing some of his home made wine. I'll have coffee going, and a a limited supply of beer. If you want beer, best plan on bringing your own. I won't have much.
  20. Good luck, and let us know if you get the job. I'll stop in and say HI.
  21. I took a look at the rod and reel spreadsheet I put together for insurance purposes. Of the fourteen baitcasting combos I have left, only five have a rod costing more than the reel. Average MSRP for all rods is $224, while the reel average MSRP is $254. Looks like I lean towards the reel side of the equation.
  22. The idea has been around for quite a while. There used to a company making rods just like this; graphite formed the way the bamboo rod makers used to make fly rods, six sided, hexagonal shaped graphite rods. I think it was hexagraph, but don't quote me on that. I was intrigued by the concept, but never pulled the trigger on one. They were quite expensive.
  23. Last Friday night I was at my brother's house. We'd just polished off about 50 bucks worth of sushi, and were on our second bottle of wine when Long Mike called. He informed me that he would be unable to attend the Bass Resource RoadTrip due to medical reasons. He said he had been to the doc, and was told he needed to stay off his feet, and not get behind the wheel until the problem was corrected. I, of course, expressed my concern, in serious terms. He allowed me to continue for several moments before asking me what day it was. DOH!! April 1; I'd been had, big time. My brother was listening in on all of this, and commented that while he had some pliers handy, he did not believe he could get the hook out. I swallowed it all; hook, line and sinker. Long Mike was laughing his arse off, and when he was able to stop laughing, said "that's all I wanted to say", and hung up. I will quote myself: Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Ghoti.
  24. Hey, Hey, it's almost time to start packing for the Bass Resource RoadTrip. This is a last call ( sort of )for the Saturday Night Wine & Cheese Soiree. All are welcome.
