  1. I use a Dremel. Chuck the blank up in my power wrapper, and get it spinning about 200rpm. A hard cutoff wheel in the dremel, spinning very fast. Use a very light touch, and the dremel will cut it off neatly and cleanly.
  2. No, but you can scrape it off with an old credit card, or something similar. Do not use a sharp metal tool.
  3. To remove tips applied with epoxy, use your teapot. Run a paper clip through the eye of the tip. Add a rubber band to the clip. Fire up the teapot, and hold the tip in the steam whistling from the teapot. Pull on the rubber band. The tip will come off. May take up to a minute. Around 240° F is where you get into the temperature range that will damage rod blanks. Steam will not be over 212°F. Keep your fingers out of the steam!
  4. For the last three years I'd have to call them rare.
  5. When you're old you have dry dreams and wet farts. Not there yet.
  6. Now that's funny right there!!!
  7. From the rodgeeks website, How do our blanks compare to St. Croix in terms of power and action? Our blanks are very similar to comparable St. Croix models with the exception of our Bass Series. These blanks are designed specifically for bass fisherman, with slightly slower actions and more power in the tips. The action section of our blanks also have reinforcing material for extra durability. Our C2 blanks are the same as St. Croix's SCII, and our C4 is the same as SCIV. We do not have a direct SCIII equivalent because our C4 blanks are even higher performance at great prices.
  8. That is not cork that has been chipped. That is filler coming out of the voids in the cork.
  9. Rodgeeks is not using St Croix mandrels. Their website plainly states that their blanks are a different, more moderate, taper than the equivalent St Croix blank.
  10. They say 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the bass. That makes it easy. Look to see where everybody if fishing. Then go elsewhere.
  11. Ever notice how "luck" follows smart people around?
  12. Nah. I gave that stuff up before you were born.
  13. Imagine an America where a chicken can cross the road without his motives being brought into question.
  14. Never have lives less lived been more chronicled.
  15. Open water here. We have actually had ice out about six times. Don't think it ever got over two inches thick. The downside is very cold, very muddy water. Fishing here, right now, would only be casting practice. Wouldn't be any catching. The only thing that would work at this time is dynamite.
  16. Contact this guy. http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ Mike will build you anything you want.
  17. Inused to camp a lot when I was a quite a bit younger. Took a dog once. Never did it again.
  18. They make casting reels with the crank on the wrong side? How long has this been going on?
  19. Your space looks a heck of a lot neater than mine! Waiting to see pics of your new, big shop spaces. Know I'm going to be jealous!
  20. I saw that thing last time Kent and I were there. He had gone to get the car when a young lady at the next slip over started screaming. A huge tank of a brown was slowly finning along the surface about three feet out from the slips. I watched it for about two minutes.
  21. Fish when I can, and don't worry about it if I can't. Catch fish when I can, and don't worry about it when I can't Fish with friends as often as I can Fish with family as often as I can Fish with kids as often as I can Throw away the scales Throw away the log book Forget about records Stop taking fish selfies Take pics of friends, family and kids with their fish Fish no tournaments Replace all my factory rods with custom rods organize my tackle All of that is doable. Except the last one
  22. It does sound a bit counter-intuitive, but trimming the tip does indeed slow the action. It does not increase the power either. When thinking of action, think about where the rod flexes. When you remove from the tip, you are eliminating a portion of the most flexible part of the rod. It will require more force to deflect the rod, but the bend will be more moderate because you will have removed the most flexible section. By removing a piece of the tip section you will have increased the lower lure weight rating. For example, if your rod initially have a lure weight range of 1/4-3/4oz, removing a few inches of tip will alter that range; maybe to 3/8-3/4oz. Notice the upper end did not change. The power did not increase. Trimming from the butt technically slows the action because the same flex is now working across a larger percentage of the rod length. Using the same lure weight range as the previous example by trimming a few inches from the butt, your new lure weight range may be 1/4-5/8oz. Trimming from the tip is something I never do. if you've ever broken a tip and installed a new tip at the broken end, you know what I mean. It is not the same rod. Trimming from the butt end produces changes in action and power, but are much more subtle in effect. If a rod must be trimmed, do it from the butt end.
