  1. In that situation I would move on to the next dock. As you said a whole family was outside enjoying their water-front property. The look they gave tells me they don't want me siting behind their house, so I would move. Why? Because I would expect that same courtesy. I have never had this problem but that's what I would do. I understand the public waters argument, but in my opinion it's just not worth getting all bent out of shape about. Just move on
  2. That's a fatty alright. I don't think I would recognize that as a bass if I caught it down here
  3. We just sent our entry in. I mean what would you rather be using than a FlappinShad, Big EZ, Ugly Otter or Cane Toad? As long as my boy is welcome to fish with me I'll be there...
  4. Fished Lake O Friday from 11 til sundown. I was catching fish all day out of thick mats. I didn't catch anything in the last hour when I switched to topwater (should have stuck with punching). Found one big girl that weighed 6lb 7oz. Most of the others were between 1.5 and 3lb, with one that went about 4lb. Fished the Alley this morning dawn til 1pm. Morning bite was slow, but it was there. After about 9am it was all about flippin and pitchin. I tried some crankin and spinners for a while with no luck (unless you count mudfish as luck). Everything I caught today was fairly small 1-2.5lbs. All in all I would say the fishing is good right now, with the morning bite geting a slight edge. The fish are there if you can get to them. Not my favorite way to fish but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.
  5. There is a better one: 1. Reel in duck 2. Grasp firmly around the head 3. Twist until a "pop" is heard 4. Field clean 5. Baste and roast at 350 degrees for 1 hour 6. Enjoy your dinner while writing a thank you letter to yellow magic Seriously though that's a funny storey
  6. My HOA backed off on spraying as well. But that was due to increases in other maintenance costs that they considered more important. Not because they got smart or started caring about fishing. Next year, HOA dues go up, and spraying resumes at closer intervals. Enjoy it while you got it!
  7. Oh ok. I keep forgeting that the "deep south" ends in GA and AL
  8. I agree 100%. I was fishing a tournament in Texas a few months ago, and the wind was blowing like crazy. My partner and I thought we heard someone yelling, but we were unable to identify the source. A little while later, we noticed several puffs of smoke coming from the far (downwind) side of the lake. We fought the wind and waves to the other side where we found a young couple and their three year old child stranded. The puffs of smoke we had seen turned out to be them signaling by discharging a fire extinguisher into the air. Their motor had died, and the wind pushed them across the lake and nearly capsized their boat. It was no easy chore getting them out of there, but it was obviously the right thing to do. We spent the last 90 minutes of tournament fishing time towing them back to the ramp. Another time, I was fishing a tournament in Kentucky. It was maybe 9:00 AM when another boat pulled up beside me. They had been out night fishing all night, and they had obviously been drinking. Their boat was now out of gas, and we were probably five miles from the ramp. The lake was calm, the weather was nice, and the trolling motor battery still had life. I pointed them in the direction of the ramp and continued fishing. No way was I going to give up the morning bite to tow two drunks in who had failed to fill their gas tank. Good points, I tend to agree with you guys on this one
  9. cool story and congrats on your first tourny. seems like only yesterday you were asking how to throw a senko..... now your mingling with the pros!
  10. PS I never take my kids to Holiday or Sawgrass. I take them to less pressured spots like the fingers or the alley. Easier to catch fish which keeps them interested..
  11. Haven't been to Holiday in a few months... but, I took my boat out to do some water testing after some repairs last Friday. I put in at the Fingers, the ramp located at the bend north of Sawgrass. I put in at about 10am and only fished for two hours. In that time I landed 8 fish using three different baits; senkos, white spinner, and a bomber crank. Take him out there with some shiners and fish the finger entrances and your sure to have some luck. If you head north from the ramp about 10 min drive there is a huge tower (cell tower maybe) and a curve in the canal. That area has always been a great spot year round for me. Also noticed some bass busting at the end of the finger canals. What they were chasing I don't know but keep your eyes open for that as well. Good luck!
  12. Goes to show that all of nature is inter-twined and connected in some way. I think it's awesome you guys figured out a pattern using birds, something most of us would overlook. Don't you love it when you get a hunch, develop a plan, stick with it, and it actually works? Way to go and congrats on a good season!
  13. You got a nice little hole there buddy.. I swear all your pics are in the same spot, or is it just me?? Sweet bass you landed. action is definitely picking up down here lately
  14. thanks but I doubt I'll be needing that.....
  15. Cool trip but I'd rather see pics of the 6lb bass than the snakeheads and cat spines
  16. I have a crapload of baits on my boat, but generally I only use about 5 of them. Although it's nice to have the other options when "nothings working". Bank fishing I take only what I can carry in my pockets.... and usually have better luck. Its amazing how many ways you can wiggle your worm when that's all you got.
  17. A slow bite calls for a slow presentation in my experience. So anything that can be worked slowly would be the ticket. Although I agee with Deep that senko would be my go-to bait in that situation.
  18. I hate having to make those tough life decisions as well.... Great news from the lake!
  19. You should change your name to "Headhunter"
  20. Maybe you should have thrown an anchor (or two) and focused on some high probability spots like points or drop offs. Finesse is what I would have tried as well. Your plan sounded solid but as you can see sometimes the best laid plans go to the wayside. Hope for the best and plan for the worst next time. Good luck man keep us updated.
