  1. To me smallish fresh water fish are the hardest to tell apart But In my experience a LM Bass will almost always fight the hardest right after being hooked, then back off a little as they get tired real quick. Then as you get it closer to the boat they will try to take off again usually with a stronger run than when it was hooked. Also, you'll feel the head shake and when they're coming up to jump. Pay special attention to all those the next time you hook up and after a while you'll know too. Mike
  2. Well if Dottie Rae didn't live so far away, she and Mr G would be able to meet and maybe exersise together for bit. He's a bit of a show off tho..He loves to flex his muscles Mike
  3. That's what I call my '65 GTO. Mike
  4. When I retired Mrs. Mike and I bought a motorhome to meander around the country. We live in it full time now and just go where we want, when we want, to see what we want. For the last few years I've been chasing tournaments around the SE and Midwest while she does the books, sits back and look good! Before that I was restoring a '65 GTO which won a Concours bronze level award at the GTO Nationals a few years ago. When we get home all my spare time will be trying to get "Mr G" to gold. Mike
  5. Hello and Welcome! Mike
  6. Hello and Welcome! Mike
  7. You haven't lived until you throw a top water, any top water, and have a 5ft gator come up and grab it! Then if he misses it, turns and chases it half way back to the boat as you reel like crazy to keep it in front of him! Then he just sit's there 6 ft away staring you down waiting for you to cast again! Mike
  8. Before we start, I want to compliment Luke..and I do mean Luke, for organizing the league. He does this in his spare time and certainly doesn't have too. Well done and Thank You my friend!! ? Mike
  9. Anybody having problems opening the draft? Never mind My granddaughter figured it out!!!!? God I love that kid! Mike
  10. As always you said it better than I did. ? Mike
  11. That's not what you feel ? Mike
  12. No! I know a lot of folks worry about the rod matching the reel and make a pairing decision by how it looks. I couldn't care less. I don't buy fishing gear to make a fashion statement. Mike
  13. When punching through thick mat's it's all about power and leverage. You won't get the maximum leverage you're gonna need from a 6' 6" rod, and a medium action rod regardless of who makes it won't have the power. Punching is the one presentation where you're going to need the right equipment to be successful. Good Luck Mike
  14. This is what I do and am quite a bit older than you. Mike
  15. Agree with Tom about what bait to use. You want big?? Go when they are more likely to roam and feed useing techniques and baits they are more likely to feed on. Big girls of all species are a creature of habit. Learn what those are and your fishing life as you know it will change. Good Luck Mike
  16. I stayed through Charlie in '04 because my baby granddaughter couldn't be moved and pray I will never have to do that again. We were in the eye wall and The wind blew so hard it made the falling rain look llike smoke! I pray for you and your families. Stay safe brothers. and keep your family close. Mike
  17. I use Flouro for everything except for punching and very heavy vegetation but starting to use it more for that also. I just don't see any advantage to useing mono for anything...Sure you can make an argument for useing the stuff for certain top water presentations but it certainly isn't the be all advantage it's made out to be. I fish more tournaments than most on here and I'm convinced it help's. Everyone's different and will use what they like and have confidence in as it should be. I use either Shooter or Sniper depending on what, where and how I'm fishing, and have no intention of changing..If I did it certainly would not be to mono. For me there are better options. Mike
  18. I hope everyone on here who lives anywhere near there gets out! I stayed through Hurricane Charlie in '04 and will never do that again. Stay safe everyone! Mike
  19. Good tip!! Mike
  20. Total bearing count doesn't mean a thing. Where and quality is what I'm interested in. But for 40.00???? Mike
