  1. Braid can last years spooled and indefinitely unopend and stored. Mono will start to deteriorate if left in the hot sun for months at a time spooled or not. Floro and co poly lines somewhere in between. Mike
  2. I signed up, don't know why but I did. We'll see Mike

  6. The highest ipt reel you own for any top water presentation, will definitely be a plus to get a fish out of the slop. When throwing in heavy pads, grass etc your chances of landing that fish increase when you get it's head up and to the boat as quick as you can. For me a high speed retrieve is a must. Mike
  7. Ditto Leave about 2ft of line from the tip and it's a lot easier. Sometimes by doing a side arm roll cast you can get a lot more distance than you'd think. Mike
  8. "I never really tested myself to try to get better and use less brakes" With all due respect, that's your problem. It took me a looong time to get decent, let alone good. Keep at it, and don't give up. Re spool with some cheap mono and start with some pitching and gradually move up in distance casting. Don't try to bomb your first 100 cast's, just try to get 10 yds at a time slowly..Your distance and confidence with improve with time, patience and practice. Mike

I stopped experimenting long ago. Mike

  11. I really don't have a particular style bait for pitching into and around cat tails, reeds etc. And we do that a lot down here. Latley I've had the best luck useing a Brush Hog. Try whatever you brought. Mike

  13. When I first got it, I set 2 brakes on and external dial on 2, and adjusted the spool tension for a steady fall useing a 1/4 oz plug. I don't change anything regardless of what I throw with it and it's good. Mike

  18. I use a Phenix X11 composite rod. It's rated to 3oz but I use it even for 1.5 sq bills with no problem. The X13 is a 7'6 Mike
  19. I fish with a guy sometimes who is a heck of a lot better at flipping and pitching than me and he never pegs his weights, he claims you will get less bites....
  20. I couldn't do it...I really tried but couldn't. Why?, I don't know it just didn't feel right. It felt too ackward, and I also reel spinning with the left. Gotta do what comes naturally I guess regardless of the extra step. Mike
  21. Happy Birthday!! I hope you enjoyed your day. Mike
  22. So sorry to hear this... Stay stong Pal, I know it's not easy. May God bless her Mike
  23. IMHO, You don't need to hold your rod like that throwing a swim bait. I know a lot of people who do, Hell I did also at one point. Just try holding, reeling and setting like you were fishing a worm and see if that improves your results. Good Luck Mike
  24. Agree, That's all I use also. OP...What I do on all my plastic rigging is to put a bobber stop above and below the weight. That way I have more than one type of presentation at my disposal without having to retie every time by simply moving one or both of the stops anywhere at any time... Texas Rig Florida Rig Petey Rig (put 2 on the bottom) Mike
