  1. Mostly KVD line and lure, frogs, flukes and any specialty type tools when needed. Mike
  2. Tom What model line is the Dobyn's 735? Im looking for a new dedicted plastics rod myself as I'm gonna deligate my current Fenwick Tecna AV to punching. Thanks Mike
  3. If I want to use a weighted head its the vmc. If weightless I just use a 1/0 or 2/0 octopus, or circle hook. Mike
  4. Agree When all else fails I always rig a plastic of some sort. Sometimes that is all I use on any given day. There isn't a fish that swims that won't eat a slow moving, easy to chase meal. Mike
  5. I can't add anything of value to this... Pretty much nailed it Very Well Said! Mike
  6. You're exactly right. When taking the grandkids to a local pond they get so excited they run down the bank to the water and start yelling..Hey Papa hurry up!! I told them the story of the 2 bulls standing on the hill top looking down at the cows in the valley.... But change it up.... "When grandma comes home from food shopping and you see the package of cookies sitting there, don't run up and try to take 1 right away.... Walk up, duck behind a chair, crawl to the counter and grap the whole box!! Now they understand Mike
  7. Dont doubt that at all... Mike
  8. Not saying it couldn't be done....use what you will. My experience is with anything that can get hung up going down, I will try to avoid. Mike
  9. If its not torn up to the point that it will effect its original action, and am able to get a hook in it, I'll save it and try again another day. Mike
  10. Same... I re tie, re rig, add scent to plastics, apply line conditioner to the reel and guides the night before every tournament. Mike
  11. Brian is right, to get to the girls you're gonna have to go where they live. A 1-2 oz weight will get you there. If you dont have any that heavy, swing the rod high and crash through useing a higher arc. Also try useing a compact craw type plastic instead of brush hogs and big 10" worms. You want the bait to come through as unabated as it can. The appendage's of the brush hog and a 1/3 of that worm can get hung up and ruin your presentation. Mike Also, before you pull it out to make another pitch, bring it up to the underside of the mat and bang a few times then drop it again.
  12. There are some times I wish it had one, especially if they just come up and try to kill it without swallowing. But no havent used one. Most of the time I throw a frog where it wouldnt make much sense. Mike
  13. For Flukes I use a skip gap hook and use a nail weight. They seem to run truer for me and I can adjust the angle and speed of the fall if I want. Mike
  14. What others have said.... What I do also is that after walking and then pausing , I'll try to walk in place right after a pause before walking it back to the boat. Sometimes just a quick turn back and forth in place will trigger a strike. Mike
  15. Growing up on the streets of the Southside of Chicago there weren't any places to go fishing. My Dad worked at a factory while my Ma stayed home with us kids. I wish we had the opportunity to make the memories you guys have with your Dad, but it was another place and time. What I did learn from him was Honor, Respect and an appreciation for the traditions of my family and heritage. Even tho we really didnt have a chance to spend a lot of one and one time with each other, looking back on it now I wouldn't change a thing. I have to stop now, it's getting hard to see the screen. Happy Fathers Day Papa Rest in Peace Michael
  16. I have the X 11 and just love it! Depending on what what you're looking for the X 10 and X12 are the same spec rod's with the X12 being a 7' 6" The X11 and X13 are the same with the X13 being the 7" 6" Some folks feel the X10 is better suited for Sq Bill and smaller cranks, they may be right, but I like the X11 The X11 is considered a "deep diver" rod with a 3oz max lure rating, but I use it for all cranking including sq bill's, and very happy. It is light enough to throw all day, which I have. Mike
  17. I only use a trick worm for Shaky head...have for years. Won't change. Been useing the spot remover head but tried SK newer model [can't remember the name of it] It stays up. Mike
  18. I tried the line butter and didn't like it all. It left a film on the water, the reel and my hands. After one try I gave it away, and been useing line and lure ever since. Won't use anything else. Mike
  19. About 5 yrs ago Me, Mrs Mike and another couple decided to charter a boat for some deep sea fishing out of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. After introduction's the Captain asked if anyone of us had a banana. We all answered that we did not, then he asked if anyone had eaten one yet that morning, again we all answered that we had not. Our friend then asked very politely what if we had eaten one for breakfast? He said "If anyone had, you'd have to get another charter"...This man was serious True Story Mike
  20. I always rig a fluke will an internal nail weight, unless I nose hook em. In the back for a horizontal fall mostly but have gotten bit with a weight near the nose for a nose down fall or farther back for a nose up fall. Started to use the skip back hook design and really like it. Much easier to rig straight when T rigged Mike
  21. Sometimes a bass will just try to stun it instead of chopping down on it. When that happens you wont catch em because when they do that their mouth is closed. Ever see a bass come completely out of the water and leap frog the frog and end up on the other side without ever touching it?? That my friend will want you call home to Mama! Mike
  22. I stay in the natural colors, green, yellow and sometimes black. And I'll tell ya I've caught fish on every color regardless of conditions, but I have noticed that a lighter colored bottom (which is really all the bass will see) in the morning fog and cloudy overcast days will get more hits. For a non poping frog I throw the Scum now more than a Spro. I like that it's much softer and I tend to be able to walk that thing in place better than the Spro. The Spro popping frog, with one side of the "legs" cut about 1/2 inch up is as good as any others. Imho Mike
