  1. Thats my thought..Did you spool it from the top of the spool?? If not the line is on the opposite of how it should be, and that will cause backlash's... Did you use enough tension when spooling?? Is the line spooled evenly across the spool?? What lb test are you useing?? Too thin of a line will cause a backlash on bc also Imho, it's not the line by itself. Mike
  2. Since I've recently retired, I average almost every other day during the week and 2 tournaments a month. Mike

  6. Because of the vegetation we fish in around here, I only stupid rig them. However if I were to fish in areas where there weren't much cover, I doubt I would change. Mike

  12. There are days down here that punching through the matt will get the most and biggest bites. Depending on the thickness of the mat rig a tungsten bullet weight (I've used from a 1/2 oz to 1 1/2 oz) to heavy braid ( 50# to 65# some folks go as high as 80#) Use a 7' to 8' (7' 6" is probably average) to a heavy/ fast or x fast rod. Rig a beaver type plastic bait, or something with minimal apendenges. Flip or pitch right into it. If you're having a problem penetrating, swing the rod tip high and let the bait come in with a higher arc.... Experiment working the bait, dead stick it, shake it, hop it... I Always bang the bait on the underside of the mat, and then letting it fall straight down before pulling it out for another pitch. Good Luck Mike
  13. Cant say exactly how a thunderstorm effects a bass or where they go. All I know is where there is thunder there is lightening, and I do know where I go! Mike
  14. From an old guy who only used mono on 2 rigs for a very long time, I learned that a change in line thinking was due at about the same time a change in my rod and reel thinking was due. We've all used what was available at the time when we started fishing.. That's what we learned on, that's what we know, that's our comfort level. For me all there was was mono line, Shakespeare rods and Zebco reels. Then I learned by trying new things, finding this site and others, that some things really DO make a difference. Since there is a trade off in almost all things we change, a give and take if you will, we need to decide if that change is worth it. For me the sensitivity of floro line gives me an certain advantage at times that mono doesn't.... BUT...I better be prepared to buy a top of the line product.. I better take the time to use a conditioner.. And I darn well better take my time tying a knot.. If you dont have a problem with any of that, then IMHO you'll more than likely be of the opinion that floro is for you for certain technique's, if not then it really doesn't matter. Mike
  15. My thought exactly...Not knowing what size senko you were useing, the first thing I would do is switch to the smallest one you have. A 4" one will give less wiggle but it also will give a smaller target to hit. Worst case you'll catch a few. Mike
  16. 9.78 lbs. On a june bug Brush Hog. Mike
  17. Pete I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to spend longer than a few minutes with you. Will definitely make up for it next year... My and Jeannie's prayers are with your grandson for a complete and total recovery, and with his Papa and Grandma, and his Ma and Dad, may he keep you all strong. Mike
  18. Time and place Pal...Time and place Mike
  19. I use a Norman speed clip on any bait with a split ring..tied with the SDJ. You mentioned you wanted a knot with a doubled knot through the eye.... The one's I've used is... Palomar (but that's for braid exclusively) Fishin Fool (It's just a doubled Uni) Doubled SDJ No Name...It's a doubled SDJ without going through the loop by the eye first. Trilene Knot... There may be more but these are the ones I've used. Mike
  20. I love that Baba Craw color..3/4 of the fish I caught were on those. Mike
