  1. Got to get our there with you once it is not 30 out. I love the overhead hook set.....great stuff.
  2. This is a interesting topic...... and this is why I went with my inflatable...... I could not work out storage either. Such a tough one to figure out.
  3. Seeing the question was asked by a kid, (13, 14 or 15 right?) a good way to try things is befriend other fishermen. Hanging out with older fishermen or making contacts on here you will literally encounter all sorts of great guys who would happily toss a plug or bag of plastics to a young fisherman who really appreciates it and is going to help keep the waters clean. You try out some stuff and see what you like and no matter the brand or model, you can spend your $$ on stuff you have confidence in, which is half the battle. Not wasting bucks to try out something. I know when I was a teenager staring at the BPS catalog deciding what on earth I would ask for Christmas and being faced with tough choices, I only wanted stuff I knew would work. As I started mowing more lawns and such and had a few bucks, I found myself "trying" things..... and a lot of the crap from then I still have (BPS Caterpillar worms galore) haha. That habit has not stopped at 33 (bait monkey). Another piece of advice for a teenager...... I got a spinner bait making kit one holiday..... great investment that was not an expensive gift but I could go in the basement and pump put all sorts of spinner baits and saved a ton of money. It was a proud day my dad (who never threw a spinner bait) said let me try one of those and three casts later had a fish..... made a teenage kid feel pretty darn good. The components to keep making them were pretty cheap (was not pouring my own heads) and tried to copy patterns I saw in stores and even go nuts with my own design. If i had a smartphone back then I would have been snapping pictures galore and trying to make exactly what I had seen in the store.
  4. nothing beats supporting the local stores
  5. Yeah they have all the roads and utilities basically set up to make whatever monument to consumerism they want there. That exit is sketchy enough, sure it will remain that way for some time. Driving home from FL for the holidays I wanted to stop in to see the new green top but they were closed (it was new years day) but BPS was open and hoping with people all over, and they did not have a sale going or anything.
  6. just remember that a coach bag costs a ton too..... so when she does not understand why we need a new reel that looks like all others, we can remind them that we might not understand why a bag is hundreds of dollars more than then something that looks exactly the same...... Then again..... maybe just show up with flowers and keep quiet haha
  7. Great Stuff Rhino I am totally with Rhino..... if you're mad a BPS for "copying" a lure..... then be mad about there being near 3 exact copies of the Pop-R. I have the BPS catalog open right in front of me and tell me the strike king spit n king is not a almost exact copy of a Pop-R? Heck what makes a Rico so different than a Pop-R minus about the 15 more bucks you pay for it. If someone is selling with one lure, you can bet every other company is going to make their version of the same thing. I do not throw BPS hard baits, but if for some guys they like em and save them some bucks, more power to them. I am sure the Rico lovers on here think the same thing as I throw my chug bug, Pop-R, and hula popper but would not buy a Rico. The catalog is a big let down for me this year, due to as all have said..... the lack of specifics without the website. The only details to be found are in their combos they are selling..... which makes sense because without those details I doubt anyone would buy a combo. Also stunk they have the new extreme soft plastic binders in the catalog but as I was passing a store I stopped in to check them out and they had none.....
  8. Oh I thought kids get out of school in June and go back around labor day
  9. Well said..... always next time. Way to get out there.
  10. Will be there again this year and would love to meet up. Can make friday or sunday
  11. great stuff, got to get out there a lot this spring
  12. Would love to see early summer dates
  13. Would also take any info about boat rentals
  14. nice work Deep...... sounds like you guys got some good fish under some tough conditions. You in a boat yet?
  15. Dropshotting and shakey heads are two things I am bad at because I have not been wiling to spend the time to gain confidence in them. In terms of other stuff...... I need to improve working through frustrating times, locating fish quicker, and having patience...... both with a technique and also with learning a body of water (i bounce around between too many places I think)
  16. Lunkerville, The Bass Pros, Bill Dance, Linder's angling edge, North American Fisherman, and City Limits fishing are all watched and DVR-ed by me. I also watch River Monsters a ton, more for entertainment than for learning about fishing.
  17. Hey all, Will be visiting my mom who lives on lake yale and was looking to see if anyone had a recommendation on a guide to take me out somewhere on the chain? Used to fish yale a lot with my father but after he got sick my parents sold the boat and have been shore bound since he passed when I stop down. Would love to get out there and see if I could land some fish.
  18. Still waiting to land one on a rapala..... last time out one took my clacking lipless rap for a run, yet somehow got off. Love cranks, would love to love rapalas, they just don't love me. I will be trying to land some on the cold water on the husky jerk here the next few months..... but the lack of confidence makes me want to go to the pointer and rogue far more.
  19. Well I did qualify and say that pressure exists just maybe not to the extent some of use would like to say, and that is coming from a guy in Northern VA where you have some of the highest pressured lakes you can find. I think we have all heard that fish will not bite again in "insert time here", yet I am sure we have all heard (or seen ourselves) fish caught again in an hour or so. I am not sure hooking a fish creates a standard waiting period, I think it depends on the fish. There is a great video on here with a biologist who says a bass had a memory that can not last longer than a few minutes. While conditioning in the form a pavlo's dog could exist with fish, it would seem to be more on us to coax a reaction bite then them seeing too many lures and not biting.
  20. awesome stuff......... I was literally walking around the DC zoo today in the rain and saying 'wow this would be a tough day to fish" and come home to read this haha. Great.
  21. I picked up on sale at a dicks earlier this year the veritas bag..... and while it is not the best bag out there, I really like it. I keep my plastics in a binder separate and carry a side bag with bug spray, flashlights, scents, ..ect. The veritas bag is great for me, the boxes it came with are big, deep, and versatile. The side pockets hold scales, lure retriever, line conditioner, and bullet weights. The front holds my terminal tackle box, and there is enough room in the main pocket that I can lay my jig box on top of that. Again not sure it would work for most as an "everything" bag, but it has been awesome for me in the role I use it for http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_650003_-1
  22. Hey Dan welcome aboard..... a nova guy who gets out that way some, so looking forward to hearing about the action out your way. If you have frederick tips for pulling out the monsters I am all ears hahah.
  23. I struggle with flukes but do great with strike king caffine shads..... no idea why I do really like a swimming fluke on a spinnerbait...... really adds some great action and I have pulled fish out of places I have hammered with other baits with no action, but a spinner bait with a swimming fluke on it has gotten some fish out of there.
