I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the letters mean at the end of shimano model numbers? Specifically I have a Curado 301DSV. I was just reading someone's post about a 200DPV. I know the number refers to the size, and the first letter is the series. What are the other letters?

I was told I would benefit from taking some fish oil pills. I tried, but when I opened that bottle and got a wiff of that stuff I just couldn't do it.

No I was not using a leader. I did talk with him today. He thought that the bait had something to do with it. I was in the range listed on the rod, BUT at the very light end of it. Another factor is that the profile of the crankbait was probably getting hung up in the wind. It is new rod, and it will take a bit to figure out what the optimum setup will be.

I felt the same way, I thought "why would anyone want to deal with backlashes?" Once I figured out how to cast a BC I loved it. My favorite combo is a 6'6" Medium/Fast Shimano Clarus with a Citica 201E, or my custom Batson 6'6" Light/Fast with Ctica 201E.

Well I am not sure what type of cast it is I use. Here is some background. All the spinning rods I have ever had have been UL, L, and ML. The ML still had a pretty "whippy" tip. It took very little effort to cast 1/4 oz lures. This M/MH (as the catalogue states it) while cast 1/4 oz lure the distance I want IF I put sufficient energy into it so that the tip loads up. The cast I have the most luck with is a two handed overhand cast. I haven't got the side arm down yet. Previously my side arm casts utilize a snap of the wrist (is that what you mean by snap cast?) and I can't get much power that way. I am going to try the 10# Power Pro and examine my casting to make it more effecient.

I have just started using a my new spinning rod, it is a custom built rod on a batson blank. It is a med/medium heavy moderate fast, that is rated for a 1/4 - 5/8 oz lures. I am using a daiwa exceler with 20# Power Pro. I was casting a Bandit 100 series crank, and noticed that it would go very far unless I really put a lot of power into my cast. That's fine, but it is hard to be accurate when I cast this way. If the lure was too light, loading it up wouldn't do much good would it? I am thinking about switching to 10# power pro to help it cast smoother. Any thoughts???

I used to think about all that kind of stuff when all I owned could fit in a dorm room. I miss those days... Your theory is intersting. Sounds like Descartes, in way. I save old paper towel tubes, they fit over the chuck of my drill perfectly.

Thanks for the heat shrink idea. This month's bassmaster had a tip to use o-rings and I was going to try it but my local hardware store had them for $.23 a piece. So I got a bunch of heat shrink tubing for a couple of dollars. One 4" piece took care of all my spinnerbaits. Thanks again!

One time I was at BPS and was trying out the "Strike" game on xbox and I couldn't figure out why all the buttons were on the bottom of the controller. After minute of horrible failure at the game I gave it up only to watch the next person play hold it the right way. I held it like a BC, but it was a spinning type reel. Ooops.

If you want it to balance at the reel seat it doesn't matter what reel you put on. Remember the physics of weight on the fulcrum, etc... If you want it to balance in front of the reel, yes it will matter.

I would say it is up to personal preference as to where you want the balance point and what technique you are using. I like the balance point to be in front of the reel, about an inch or less. Too close to the reel and it just doesn't feel right. I also consider the technique. I keep my rod pointed at the water when I fish cranks, so it really doesn't make much of a difference how it balances.

You will have to authorize the new computer to play your itunes purchases. You can have up to five. I haven't ever switched my entire library from one computer, but I have two computers and I can purchase songs from either one and transfer it to the other via wifi or flash drive.

Does mend it leave the bait hard where you added it? Super glue does...

That's funny because ten years ago an ugly stick was my "good" rod. This past year I had two custom rods made on Batson RX7 blanks and I also have started using braid. It is amazing to me when a crank goes across some rocks. It feels like the rod tip is going over those rocks. I love it. I didn't realize how much different it is until I was using my cheap "beater rod" I keep in my car. Mono and a cheap rod made me feel like I didn't even have a lure on there. Now, I don't know if I could tell if there is a coin on the bottom, but I am a lot better at feeling what's down there when I am using my good rods.

Just curious, and you don't have to name names, but do you as a reel rapairman ever encounter companies that continually put out poor products?

It seems that shoes just aren't what they used to be. You have to spend a lot to get a good pair of shoes these days. Here's a thought, if they aren't completely wore out you might be able to have them repaired. Find yourself a good old school shoe repairman and they can do wonders for a lot less money than a new pair.

Sometimes I will use super glue to extend the life of my soft plastics. I have seen in BPS there is some kind of special glue but I have never tried it. A friend just told me to use cheap super glue and I was wondering what other people are doing.

X2. My thinking is get something in the middle and you can go faster or slower. I have two citicas and one curado 300DSV, all of which are in that 6.x:1 range. Another thing to look at is the IPT, which in the end is what really matters.

I am very careful when it comes to actually touching gas and tackle. And yes, the majority of my soft plastics are in plastic bags that are inside a plano, which is inside a cordura tackle bag. What about the line on my reels and the lures I have rigged up?

I keep my rods and tackle bag in my garage where they are close to my truck. Is there any affect from the smells that occur (ie the mower, cars, etc...) on my gear? Would the fish pick up on this?

I used to use the clinch until I lost a rapala because it simply came untied. Not broke. It came undone. Then someone showed me the palomar and that is all I use now.

That makes sense. I'll just leave it and make sure I don't loose it when I change spools.

Actually I didn't buy a sedona, I was just looking at one in a store. I did pick up a nylon washer at Lowes and after I made the inside hole a bit bigger it was perfect. Thanks for the suggestion. I have another question though, all my other spools are perfect without the washer. Could I glue the washer to the spool?
