While I can't help you with your query, the solution a lot of folks have is to use a heavier line like ol' BC says. That is, if you use 6 lb mono on your spinning reel, spool on braid that has the same *diameter* as 6 lb mono. For Daiwa Samurai braid, that would be 30 lb test. If you use 14 lb mono on your baitcaster, you might want to spool on 70 lb Samurai. You get the idea.

Question for RW, do you fish jigs on slack line or do you keep tension on the line so that you can feel the jig at all time? As for myself, yes fluoro certainly transmits much better on slack line, but I can feel bites on slack line with braid. I keep my index finger on the blank at all times. Usually I see the bites though.

Yup. Great rods. I love my 733 Max too. Just got an used Symetre to replace the old Sonora that was on it. Check out how well this baby balances, and that's without any line on the reel! Can't wait for my football jig Powell to reach me next week. Great rods, great company, and great customer service.

Hello everyone. I'm working on a line-through mod for a bait, and I'd appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for some thin plastic tubing, like the refill of a ball-point pen- which is what I'm using right now. The inner diameter has to be around 0.025 inches or so. The overall tube should be thin, but strong. Flexible or stiff doesn't really matter, but more flexibility is better as long as it's still strong. Basically I'm looking for a thinner but more flexible pen refill. Thanks for any pointers.

casting: 7' MH/F Shimano Compre with a 6.3:1 Citica 201E spooled with 10/12 lb Sufix Siege mono spinning: 7' ML/F St. Croix Triumph with a Browning Citori. Not sure about the gear ratio, but the IPT is around 28. It's usually spooled with 6 lb Sufix Siege mono

My PB came from my local lake. And I caught that fish twice! In three days. The first time, I caught her on a senko, and I didn't have a scale on me that day. The next time I hit that lake, I armed myself with a scale; just in case. Guess what, I caught that fish again, on a 1/4 oz jig with a chigger craw trailer, from the same general location. It was a very distinctive-looking fish; so I knew it's the same. No pics though. It was getting pretty dark, and my cellphone camera sucks even in the middle of the day. The biggest "legit" fish I caught was a 7# 11 oz. She ate an LC Gunfish. It's strange, but 4 of my 5 biggest fish came in on deadsticked topwaters. Big fish don't like to work hard!

That's the problem! When he's not looking, you need to take them off the rods, throw them into the water, and get him some shimano reels. Jokes apart, get him some Northstar jigs, along with a few packs of Rage Craws. He'll love them.

Really? Where's the balance point w.r.t the reel seat? Admittedly, I haven't fished a 2 power Powell spinning rod; but I have had the 733 and the 703. Here's a pic of the balance point of the 733. See how far forward of the reel seat it (balance point) is. That makes it a tip-heavy rod.

Well, a longer rod also moves more line during hookset which is a good thing. Other than that, IDK. I guess I'm used to 7'+ rods and have a hard time purchasing anything shorter. But that's (the length is) upto your comfort/ discretion entirely. I have a Powell Max that I use for jigs and occasionally plastics; I don't fish a lot of plastics. For it's price range, it's an awesome rod. I'm looking to get another Max, and waiting for a 20% sale. I'm obviously biased to Powells and Shimanos though. Plenty of options at the price range you're looking at; Dobyns Savvys, Kistlers, Shimano Crucials, probably some others. I'd say be sure of what you want (length/ power/ action) before placing an order. Check your PM btw.

What sort of lures do you want to throw on it? Junk fishing (anything and everything)? Or bottom-bouncing stuff? The latter is when you want the extra-sensitivity, and you can get a nice plenty-sensitive rod for $150 odd. EDIT: The longer the better for me. The only <7 ft rod I have is my ultralight, and that's only because I couldn't find a cheap 7' ultralight. You get used to the longer length pretty soon, and you'll appreciate the extra casting distance.

That would be a VERY expensive lure retriever IMO. Better not buy the rod, reel or the braid; and get half a dozen "real" lure-retrievers. Would be cheaper in the long run.

Thanks a lot. Personally, the tip-heaviness is something I don't really mind a lot in Powells because I love everything else. I use heavier reels than most people like too; that helps a bit with the balance.

Sir Snook, you probably enjoy catching a 5 lb bass on an ultralight rod much more than catching a 15 lb-er pitching a jig with a broomstick rod or whatever. I don't think anyone has any problem with that. But I also think you should try to understand that some people like to catch a boatload of dinks, some like to catch a few big bass on artificials, some others want to catch the biggest bass in the lake, whether it's on a swimbait or on a nightcrawler. For some it's the fight, and for others it's using the technique that gives them the best shot at a really big fish. There's no right or wrong in either outlook. It's all about what you enjoy doing the most. Peace,
