  1. Wow!! Loved this thread, those pics. I remember the times when my dad took me fishing...they were the times I remember best with him. They were the times I felt like I was welcomed and loved by him in his world (he would practice cast all winter in Maine and was fanatic!). When I showed promise he told me secrets about bass and their ways. We spent many an hour silent as the sun rose. When I saw these photos of wives and daughters holding their catches triumphantly I remembered those times, and was happy! Thanx Shimmy for bringing this up...a big part of fishing really is companionship in all its forms (man to man, man to woman, father to daughter, father to son. Fishin rules in so many ways ;D
  2. The packages of worms I've seen aren't clear on which ones float their rear ends up for best action. Are Mann's jelly worms the best for this? Robo worms?
  3. Bass Dude. Simple and true I think. The women just aren't there. Who knows why? Gotta be ok, and work on from there
  4. I woke up this am, got on BR and was totally blown away by the honesty from you guys (no women wrote). I learned a hell of a lot. Ever since my brother said I'd never understand what men saw things I've tried to listen. "Sam", honesty, most cool. Sometimes I don't want men around either, period. But ScBassin you hit it best: this forum is about FISHING! Why have a women's forum at all? Fishing, bassin is the focus. Most of the other replies on here echoed this. Most others said unmistakably how pleased you guys would be if the women in their lives could share their passin' for castin'! FishChris, I understand bout not wanting to fish with anyone, male OR female. It's a time when all stress, the world drops away and things finally make sense for me too. I especially appreciate so totally honest comments like CWB made....no problem fishing with women in bikinis!! So cool. Hey, this is the nature of things in an ancient way between men and women. And women are not weak.....they "we" excercise control in our own way. Hey! Joyful thing in our difference. But this forum is about BASS FISHING. Period. I'll write no more posts like this, and thank you all for responding. Now, anybody got an opinion about KVD and Biosonix??
  5. Began kayak fishing years ago when one Maine lake with huge bass was off-limits to anything with a motor. Have since discovered that the stealth possible and the sensitivity of my craft take fishing to a whole new level for me. Let a 5 lb bass tow you in a kayak as it fights and tell me what YOU think. Any kayak to start. Hobies my favorite.
  6. I post in "women and fishing " but nobody answers. Don't know why, so I'm going to the horse's mouth. Please be honest and direct. No political correctness here please. Why isn't the women's forum working?
  7. So many posts here for 2010.... almost none this year. What happened?? Just because a trail or two was cancelled, do we give up? Tell me, all you women who love fishing..tell me that's not so. I tried to join a fishing club here in western Maine. The president told me " might be best to try "another." I've gotten this response so often I no longer ask. Yet, fishermen I meet on Maine lakes always tell me how glad they are to see a woman who loves fishing:) I believe most truly men of this generation welcome female anglers. I have faith. Time will tell
  8. Oh Lauren. So true and so sad. Overcoming "social" and "peer" pressure that women can't fish, don't want to! is so hard. Hundreds of years ago women not only fished, they were acknowledged experts. Fishing was food, survival. Women then were in loving partnership with their men....oh, I miss a sense of those times that seem to address what's true between men and women !
  9. So cool Clayton86. My dad took me out when I was beyond young memory.....I only remember a fish shooting out of water, face shaking, what joy I felt. Ever since fishing=happiness for me.
  10. Hey! I'm new here and this post was in 2010....just wanted to tell you it's so cool you'd consider a female angler. Can't get there, but thanks!Take care! Laus
  11. Of course, there's the simple fact that the open-water fishing season isn't as long! What other things if any?
  12. (Mouth drops open, heart breaks...!) Oh! I went through Montana once and the land, it's waters and hills, it's beauty, captured me. I loved reading "A River Runs Through It," where the joy of fishing was so well described I never forgot it. Wonder what Montanians would think?
  13. Found this article (scientific study) by a fisheries department that states that non-tournament anglers think that tournaments are bad for them locally, bad for the fishery in their area, that most fish released die! Wow. Any comments? http://afsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1577/1548-8675%281998%29018%3C0422%3ADIAFMA%3E2.0.CO%3B2?journalCode=fima
  14. I was psyched today to see comments here. I think the reason this forum wasn't used for awhile was because of the "elephant in the room." Exclusion is real. How to address it rationally is crucial. I truly believe that the majority of men not only don't exclude women, they actually feel pleased at our acceptance when it occurs. I think LOTS of people of both genders read these posts because they're curious/supportive. They just don't comment because it's a loaded issue! The ones who reject women as fishermen simply don't read. I intend to keep my comments focussed on what I feel to be the most important issue: the question of whether or not there is real discrimination against women going on at the tournament level. What do you all think? What to do? Laus
  15. I've never been in any kind of tournament before. Do any of you have a story or two? Was it what you expected? Any opinions on special tournaments for women (do you think doing this just re-enforces segrigation?) Why do you think this forum petered out for awhile? Hmmm! Glad to have you here 'T'!
  16. Ah, so true! I was a mechanic in the Navy and a poleworker in the power Co here and encountered intolerance and hostility from BOTH men and women. But as a nurse it's not pretty to see a guy in that all female working environment facing the same nastiness. Time to talk about gender without the blame, I think. Real issues deserve honesty Thanks!
  17. You're an amazing sight-fisherman. What's the most unexpected response to a lure you've ever seen? How has it changed your approach? Thanks
  18. Thanks but that's what I was using. I guess I could bite a lemon to get more (maybe that IS the problem)>
  19. Lost a sweet 5#er last fall when my line broke at the knot. i tied it VERY carefully, made it pretty (San Diego Jam, cushioning good for FC I read). I know FC has this problem, but as I like the stuff I want to cut my losses as best I can. Any suggestions?
  20. Hmmm! Now I've gotta try a couple of those! Liked the pic. Thanks!
  21. I've noticed that the last posts here and in the women's section in general are from last year. I just joined and am fascinated by reading about the experiences of both men and women with respect to gender. Hope people come back here in 2011!
  22. Hi! Just curious...why do you all think there are so few female fishermen? Any comments on reception of women in local bass clubs? Thanks for this forum, Glenn!
  23. I'm new here, though I've been reading for years! To be truthful, I've come to be cautious about joining clubs or other groups, though I so need the feedback and comradeship of other fishermen! I was heartbroken at the WBT's decision, but I don't consider it descriminatory. There simply aren't enough women. Glad to be here! Hope 2011 sees more comments here
  24. Wow! Thanks guys! Just what I'm looking for
