  1. Never eaten one but lots of folks around here eat all the variations of carp and say they're very good.
  2. Don't try it, just take my word for it that it really sucks when all your gear gets stolen. I've lost a boat and all my gear on 2 different occasions, none of it even found. Glad to hear you got your stuff back Troy, that's a terrible feeling. I think Lone Star sounds like a great idea, and it's certainly one of the best smaller lakes on the KS side within an hour of KC. I haven't fished it this year but it sounds like it's been fishing well this year. We'll go from the EAST ramp at 6. I'll run through this again at the ramp but we're going to switch to paper just like the get togethers. They must be a minimum of 12" to measure and we'll go to 5 biggest. I'll have a verification code of sorts that will be assigned to each boat that MUST be in a picture with your fish that are on your card, preferably while they're on the scale and the scale must be a digital scale. I've considered the length/weight conversion charts but the problem I have with that is I'm sure we've all caught very fat fish that weighed more than a fish that was a couple inches longer. If that's something everyone is interested in we could do it, just want to point that out.
  3. I have a 7' MH/F LTB and it works great with 5/16oz finesse jigs.
  4. If you know what they are you can generally look up the information on how deep they're supposed to dive online as well.
  5. I never go fishing without several jigging spoons. Not super exciting to fish but you can sure load the boat fast if you find the right school of fish.
  6. Green pumpkin
  7. Trick worm with a 1/16oz wacky jighead was the only thing I could get the smallies to eat a month ago.
  8. It may just take her a little while to get a feel for what she needs to do. It took my wife several trips before she understood how hard she needed to set the hook with certain things. Now she sticks it to them when they bite.
  9. http://s477.photobucket.com/user/jbassman87/media/Screenshot952014-08-07-10-58-51_resized_zps09336e19.png.html Where are there trees like are in the background of this picture in western KS?? That lake was almost dry just a few years ago too. Having a hard time believing that.
  10. This week is supposed to be Saturday morning from 6-noon. I'm not going to make it and not sure who else is going or if it's going to happen or not for that matter. I fished Pleasanton with Jared yesterday and it was really tough.
  11. Fished one of the toughest local lakes we have, and it kicked my butt like normal. After I gave up on the bass I started thinning out the extremely overpopulated carp population. Normally I don't see anything much bigger than 5 pounds, so I was shocked when I spotted a big grass carp working down the bank towards me. Knowing how spooky they are I decided to Power pole down (drop the anchor ) and wait for him to come to me. After several minutes he was in range and acting a little skittish so I took a long shot and it when right over his back Cussing myself for missing my chance I decided to move slowly and carefully into the back of the pocket in case there was another. Didn't go far before I spotted another big light spot on the bottom in a foot of water. Couldn't tell if it was a log or fish but decided to take the chance. My shot was perfect and the fight was on! Mud and water flying everywhere and my arrow slicing the water like a shark's fin for several minutes before I finally subdued him with a whack from the carp club. Decided that was a good way to end the day and was very happy to meet some guys that were getting ready to go out and set lines for catfish. They said they had to go catch bait first, told them I had 27.5 pounds of bait for them if they wanted it They were more than willing to take it off my hands for me. Far from the biggest I've shot, but probably one of the hardest fighting ones I can remember.
  12. The way our vets are so often treated and neglected when they return home is a travesty. They give everything so many others don't have to, and then get betrayed by the powers that be when they need help the most. I can't get deep into how I feel about the situation without complaining about the way our government is handling things so I'll leave it at that.
  13. Seems like these are one of the most versatile heads I've found. Love the swinging football heads, but how can it be improved on? Add a skirt! Now it's a weedless jig that doesn't need a weedguard! I'm using an Owner Twistlock XXX hook with the centering pin and wire tying them. Plain Rigged Really excited to see how these are going to work for me.
  14. I use 10lb Sunline Super on a lake with lots of docks and big, spooky fish. You get broke off sometimes but when that happens it's usually in a situation when I don't think it would have mattered if it was 10 or 25, they just got me in a bad spot.
  15. I also received my package for doing a review. 2 8" 3D line through trout, both in dark trout. One is moderate sink and one is slow sink, can't beat that!
  16. I fish bladed jigs a lot and have great success with them. I use a 6' 6" MH/F rod with a 6.4:1 Lew's reel and 14lb copolymer line. I always have a trailer on mine but never a trailer hook. They'll work about anywhere but around cover seems to be best, I really like them around weeds. Best way I've found to fish them is with an extremely slow, straight retrieve.
  17. They do cast a mile, and like others said clear water and light line are an absolute must. They sink very quickly and are pretty heavy for their small size (3/8oz). I keep forgetting to give them a real thorough test but when they first hit the stores this winter I tested them and had good results (yes that's snow on the rocks in these pictures).
  18. I've tried it, did exactly what I thought it would. I was losing baits twice as fast!
  19. I've had a couple hit me going top speed in my old boat (around 30mph), leaves a very colorful bruise.
  20. Sounds like your bodies reaction to the introduction of the dirt and slime into your body, swelled up to try to prevent anything else getting in. Make sure to clean stuff like that really well or it can result in a nasty infection.
  21. I've caught the same fish off the same spot on the same day more than once. Last year my buddy broke a fish off in the morning and I caught it in the afternoon off the same spot with his bait still in it's mouth. Some days they seem very smart and wary, others not so much.
  22. I think about it every year and have threatened to fish it more than once, just never have.
  23. mondotackle.com, doesn't have everything he carries on the website but it gives you a good idea. He has lots of stuff from smaller companies that don't supply BPS and Cabela's.
  24. Silver Asian carp to be exact. Glad that's not what it is, some can't tell the difference between a juvenile silver carp and a gizzard shad.
  25. Not really. It's a very wide wobbling crankbait that only runs a couple inches below the surface. They're loud and swim aggressively, nothing very subtle to them at all.
