  1. I'm excited about it. Tired of breaking those fragile Rapala baits. They have a great mid depth flat sided bait, hopefully this one will be just as good.
  2. Another post about a friend moving to Minnesota reminded me of this. My buddy Steve moved to the banks of Minnetonka many years ago and I completely lost touch with him when is phone was disconnected and I had no other way of contacting him. The first time we fished together was back when I was guiding for flatheads. I put him on this 47 pounder. We got along so well that we kept going fishing together all over and became good friends. I'm sure he's still harassing the pike, musky, and bass in Tonka just like he said he was going to do when he moved there.
  3. Black and milds for a minute when I was a dumb 20 something year old. I already have asthma though and my doctor asked if I was going out of my way to kill myself. I never really enjoyed it or felt addicted to it, more of a social thing when hanging out with friends or out at the bar I guess. Like I said, dumb 20 something year old stuff.
  4. I'd trade all the drum in our lakes for bowfin. I've only ever caught 2, both in the Everglades flipping a Pitboss into vegetation. Great battles both times, minus the gator charging the second one and making things dicey for a second, it was a blast. I could see where they'd be really disappointing if I was in a tournament, but I was fun fishing and catching them was a heck of a lot of fun.
  5. Left work this morning at my scheduled time for a change. Still had my rods in the truck and it was nice out, so? Why not stop at the lake and make a few cast? Water felt like bath water. Had a snapping turtle almost make things real interesting, but he must have only got the feathers on my back treble, I felt the weight for sure and saw the wake. Thought I had a monster bass tracking my bait. The fish are ANGRY when they hit this bait.
  6. Got some TK KO's in today. Hoping they're close to the real thing. If nothing else, I have 4 spare tails and lips for my actual TK.
  7. The Mettle isn't bad, but each one I've owned died on me in less than 5 years of moderate use and there is nowhere to get parts for them, so once they die, they're dead.
  8. Not make that annoying whining noise every cast?
  9. Welcome!
  10. Yeah, this was back when I was single with no kids too. Traveling 9 hours to go fishing wasn't such a big deal back then.
  11. A friend of mine moved to the banks of Minnetonka several years ago. He wasn't a social media guy, so when his number was disconnected one day, I had no other way to contact him. Have never heard from him since. Made it up to fish with him once shortly after he moved but was really looking forward to getting to visit occasionally and do some fishing up there with him and having a place to stay.
  12. 6th Sense Catwalk, Berkley Drift Walker for very calm conditions, Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 100.
  13. Mass produced bait, maybe just got a bad one? I wouldn't keep using it but it's a proven bait so I wouldn't let that one deter you from using them in the future either.
  14. They bury up in those water willows and you just have to go in and get them. Water will only be deep enough to cover their backs sometimes but that's where the food is and it's shady so they stay cool and protected.
  15. I had no success with them and I think it became more of a mental thing where I had no confidence when using them and gave up on them.
  16. Welcome!
  17. Got a couple picture worthy fish from SMP Saturday morning. 1 on topwater and 1 on a Pitboss.
  18. I had one of these exact rods but lost it several years ago. Either fell out of the back of the truck while driving down the road, or I forgot to load it up when I left the lake. Didn't want to go back and look for an old rod and beat up Speed Spool. Nothing wrong with it, very serviceable rod. I fished spinnerbaits on mine.
  19. I have one on my wacky rig rod. It's the last Pflueger reel I have that hanging onto a starting rotation spot.
  20. I really love the Fuego, but I even went down to the Daiwa CC80, 2 of them, for a couple lower end rods I use in my kayak when I'm just fun fishing. They were highly touted by Tactical Bassin, so I gave them a shot. They've been excellent so far, and don't have that cheap reel feel to them.
  21. I use a cable bicycle lock through the hole where my drive goes. I wouldn't be hard to break or cut with the proper tools, but it keeps that dumb teenager who has always wanted a kayak from doing dumb teenager things. I always keep the drive separate also, since my pedal yak is kind of pointless without it.
  22. I know that we have several different colors, so I assume they're all different species. They vary from bright lime green, to nearly black. The black variety is the toughest to remove. The kind grows in a lake where the residents use to empty their gray water directly into the lake, not sure if that's why it grows there or not.
  23. I like to use them when bass are eating other fish.
  24. Pitboss is $2 less a bag, 1 more bait per bag, more durable, and a wildly popular bait for a reason. Pretty easy decision for me.
  25. I could count on both hands the number of crankbait fish I've caught since March. I don't even know why I carry them most of the year.
