  1. Bulky, dark colored jigs and plastics are my go to if moving baits aren't working. Fish pull in tight to cover in dirty water and sometimes take repeated casts to a target to get them to bite. A 1/2oz jig is one of my favorites in that situation but a flipping tube with a rattle is another good option.
  2. Fish were hungry on Friday. Fed a whole bunch of them a 6th Sense Quake and Provoke, along with a bladed jig and few other baits. Didn't find any big ones, but my wrist and ribs were sore by the end of the day. When I got home, my new ride had FINALLY made it to the house. An Old Town Sportsman 120PDL. Took it to the local lake Saturday morning just wanting to test it out, but I got on a hot pattern with a Ned rig too. Ended up catching 34 up to 4.56lbs on it and smoked my buddies that were out there fishing also. I do feel like I did way too many squats after peddling around the lake for 5 hours though
  3. I went out Friday and Saturday morning. I had a new ride to try out Saturday, loved it!
  4. Always fun to dredge up a 14 year old post ? We saw some on a local lake for the first time ever this summer when I was out fishing with the family. First time I've seen them in my life. They were tiny, about the size of a dime.
  5. Rain, fog, and steam when I'm tying baits on I imagine. Doesn't take much getting inside the box to really mess things up fast if you don't catch it.
  6. Anybody use a ceiling hoist to store their kayak? I have a spot in my garage I think mine will fit in (if it ever gets here), and I'd much rather store it inside than outside.
  7. I'd have to count but I'll bet I've got 30-40 in my Plano Edge box with my jerkbaits. The jig/bladed jig box is excellent also and I'm planning on getting the spinnerbait box as well. I've yet to find a regular box that kept the rust away (having to replace dozens of split rings and hooks is way more expensive than 1 box and extremely frustrating), but so far so good with the Edge boxes.
  8. I wouldn't bring that many but a shakyhead isn't very effective in ponds here because of bottom debris and a Neko is a pretty good substitute for it that stays out of the junk better. Swapping the worms out would be an easy way to switch from a weighted Neko to a weightless wacky rig while only using 1 rod also.
  9. I've got a pretty nice bass boat, but I do a lot of work from my little Monarch johnboat too. I got it for next to nothing. Put a pretty fair amount of work into it getting it water ready, and it still leaks a decent amount but I've about given up on finding the source of the leak/s since it's not bad enough to be an issue other than making sure to keep gear off the bottom of the boat. I was going to try to do a bunch of stuff to it and make it nice, but then I got to thinking how I bought it to beat it up and take it places I didn't want to take my bass boat, so I changed my mind and slapped some composite sheeting down for the decks and just fished it like that.
  10. They're nice baits. I've like most of the baits I've tried from them.
  11. I think lure color selection is probably going to be your biggest variation. Northern guys probably all have yellow perch baits in their boxes, whereas you may not find any in a southern anglers box. Lots of guys in the south fish white bass patterns (sand bass), but it's probably a lot less common up north. Bluegill and sunfish colored baits seem more popular up north also, while shad/herring baits dominate the further south you get.
  12. Just bring your typical fall baits. The warm front will not effect the water temps much from where they are currently.
  13. For soft baits, I have a hard time going over $20 a bait, but I've not had much success with soft baits. Hard baits, once I get up to $100 I really start to think the purchase through, but I've gone way over that for baits that I wanted. There's lots of very reasonable options out there. Savage Gear makes lots of good baits, so does Spro. FishLab is a newer company that has some nice baits. Lots of people started with a R2S SWaver 168. Savage Gear is my top choice for realism, functionality, and affordability.
  14. You'll be missing out on your best chance at some of the biggest fish of the year if you do. Cold weather doesn't mean the end of bass fishing season, it means the end of fair weather fishermen season, and that's my favorite season.
  15. How's the fit on those? They sound really nice but I need sunglasses that are pretty wide to fit my giant head.
  16. This bait is a balsa bait that has been a killer for me the last couple years when the fish get up shallow chasing shad. It only dives a couple feet deep but it bounces off everything since it's balsa.
  17. There's no bass in Kansas, that's your problem ? Most of my fish lately have been on squarebills, traps, spinnerbaits, and Ned rigs.
  18. I ate a ton of fish growing up, all kinds. If I caught a keeper bass, it was going home. It always tasted awful, but when you didn't have anything else to eat it sounded better than going hungry. Cow pond bass and channel cat have about the same flavor as the mud the ponds are lined with.

    Welcome!
  20. It's just a water snake, non-venomous. I almost stepped on a really cold one this morning when I stepped off the dock to get the truck. Had to pick him up and move him out of the way before the next guy stepped on him or killed him for just being a snake. I didn't even want to catch the stupid white bass, but then he had to go and do this to my reel when I grabbed him ?
  21. Went back after wipers Saturday morning before the sun got up. First cast, one and done, but it was a big one for a little city lake, almost 9 pounds.
  22. Even if it's clear you don't need a leader, just use straight braid. I fish straight braid on most all my topwater baits except baits with a front prop and buzzbaits no matter the water clarity.
  23. Sink rate is another reason to use a leader. Braid floats and will cause a parachute effect with a light enough bait like a Ned Rig or weightless plastic.
  24. Make a Ned rig head that scares drum away and I'll buy a lifetime supply.
