  1. I don't change anything for fall compared to the rest of the year. I use white or black, 1/2 or 3/4 ounce. Usually use a skirted bait but I'll mix in a buzz toad as well.
  2. I spent over $100 on a treble hook order last month for replacement trebles. Talk about boring, but something that has to be done.
  3. Man, if you're trying to catch bass I'd start by going to a different lake. Just not a good population there and they're hard to catch. Baits like wacky rigged Senkos, Ned rigs, curly tail grubs, small squarebills, inline spinners, small safety pin spinners, all catch fish and are pretty simple to fish.
  4. Water temp was 82* last Wednesday and a jerkbait was my best bait going for smallouth. There is no such thing as "jerkbait time", unless you only fish them during certain times of year. Don't fish a jerkbait in warm water the same as you do in cold water. You don't fish a crankbait or spinnerbait the same in cold water as you do warm water, so why do the same with a jerkbait? It's a killer bait for triggering a reaction strike from inactive bass and great for covering water, but I'm fine with people leaving them in their box and letting me catch all those fish.
  5. A lot of vegetation has been missing from out lakes the last couple years. It's made some normally really good lakes fish terrible. No idea what's caused it.
  6. YUM Houdini Shad has a very nice fall and glide, not far off from the Fluke and I've not had the issues with kinked baits like the Zooms. I like putting a screwlock into the nose and putting a wacky rig hook through the screwlock eye and fishing them nose hooked.
  7. A lot of my most productive hard baits don't even have eyes anymore. When I make bladed jigs for myself I never put the stick on eyes on the bait. Just not something I'm concerned about.
  8. As with most holidays, I'll be working. Schedule is changing this week though so my days off will line up with most of the holidays this fall and winter.
  9. Welcome!
  10. My dad is a pretty decent guitar player and songwriter. He had a song on the radio for a minute locally. My grandpa was excellent at playing the harmonica. I miss listening to him play around the campfire on camping trips.
  11. I'm not sure about bait clickers to the actual reel, but you can attach aftermarket audible bite indicators to the rod. Some make noise and some light up in addition to making noise. The line runs through them and when the like starts moving through them or pressure is put against the mechanism, they signal the bite. You can search "Strike Indicator" on Ebay and get tons of hits.
  12. I was using an Okuma Helios SX 7.3:1 reel. One of the smoothest, least talked about reels I've ever used. I get smallmouth to do that pretty often, but it's a rare occasion I get a pair of largemouth to go like that.
  13. Pretty much the exact same thing I've experienced this year. I've had a 6th Sense Catwalk tied on all summer since they first came out and have no idea how many fish I've caught on that thing. I've caught a lot of largemouth on a frog, and I've done pretty well on a popper this year also. Both a buzzbait and ploppers have been pretty lackluster in production and it hasn't been for lack of trying.
  14. Listen to that 20lb InvisX telling Mr.Bass he's coming out of that tree whether he likes it or not! Done a lot of that the last 2 weeks and haven't broke 1 fish off and only lost 1 jig, crazy.
  15. This is the 3/8oz size with a YUM Christie Craw. I'd guess it's a 4/0 EWG hook. A speed craw would fit I'm really confident.
  16. Haven't caught hardly anything on a buzzbait this year, feels bad man.
  17. Got the family out for a few hours Wednesday afternoon. Fishing was a little slow with the dead calm winds and full moon but we still caught a decent number of smallmouth, a few largemouth, a couple drum, a couple channel cats, a white bass, and a crappie. Thursday I went back to the same lake I fished last week hoping to repeat my jig bite and avoid the surprise thunderstorm. I did pretty well repeating the jig bite except I tried to force feed them a black a blue jig when I started out tearing them up on a Falcon Craw Trashmaster jig. One of my first fish of the day was a solid 3+lb fish that had another good fish chasing it. Grabbed another rod with a jig and dropped it behind the first one and got a solo double. I didn't find any of the bigger fish that I found last week, a few over 3 but nothing over 4. A previous guiding client of mine had sent me an email of his report from the same lake the day before. He'd done well until getting stuck on a stump in his kayak and flipping it, in the process losing his Falcon Bucoo SR/Tatula TWS SV frog rod with a FishLab Rattle Toad. Well I got snagged in a cluster of stumps with my jig and when I went in to get my jig I saw a frog suspending 8" below the surface. So I managed to recover his rod and also got his whopper plopper back for him that he'd lost in a tree and couldn't reach, going to get it all back to him Sunday. Friday I went to a small park lake to avoid the crowds, which didn't work, but I did catch quite a few nice fish and also finally got my first smallmouth from there, even though it was just a baby. Flipping a YUM Wooly Bug in the grass was doing most of the work. Caught an even 20 and went over 1,700 bass for the year.

    Welcome!
  19. Helped my buddy recover his that he lost in a bush a week ago. It looked nice and he was raving about the glide being almost like a 250. He wasn't wrong, for a smaller bait, it has a really wide glide and does it easily and the price is just stupid for a hard swimbait.
  20. Used mine a fair amount and it was doing well fishing a buzzbait but the thumb bar started to not reengage after the cast and I had to manually push it up to get the spool to reengage about every 3rd or 4th cast. They don't have any of them to exchange it so either exchanging for a red RLE or a refund.
  21. I have one on my main swimbait rod. It's the only one of my original Shimano reels that I've kept after switching to Daiwa. It's just a beast of a reel that cast great, reels smooth, and winches big fish in, everything you could ask for.
  22. Bunch of dinks this morning, this one felt like a monster compared to most of the rest. Stopped one short of 1650 on the year
