  1. They can really fool you into thinking they're giants in either case. Those little guys really pull when you hook them in the back and 2 working together pulling at the same time and then dragging in slowly really feels like a big one.
  2. Giant channel. You eat the tilapia?
  3. I was catching gar below a low water dam this week on a rope lure. I just tie it to the bend of a jig head just in case something stupid happens like a wiper or walleye decides to hit it. I didn't have anything but gar eat mine. There was a kid that rode his bike down there that was just shocked you could catch fish on a piece of rope. I gave him some rope and jigheads before I left so he could catch some too and saw him fighting one when I got back to my car at the top of the hill.
  4. They're a neat bait. I have one I use to fish a lot hanging in my shop that is all scratched up from night fishing and big pond bass. The first time I fished it my friends dad was laughing and asking if I was fishing with a beer can, right about the time a big one crushed it, told him that big one must have been thirsty. Can't remember if it was that one or a regular jitterbug that I had an owl pick up and fly off with while I was night fishing too. Hooking an owl is not a good time.
  5. Haven't used the pearl but I use the white on a wacky rig often and it works really well at times.
  6. Catfish will eat plastic baits really well at times. Slather some scent on it if you want to increase the odds. I don't use circle hooks even when targeting them and rarely have them swallow a hook. You won't miss many unless they're little ones.
  7. The Strike King KVD 1.5 is the popular choice for a lot of anglers. I've had good success with the Booyah Flex 2. Around wood I like the balsa baits a little more but those can get really pricey, I've got some upwards of $50 apiece, but they come through everything.
  8. I do it when I'm fishing around wood, works fine.
  9. Crankbaits come through cover great, especially squarebills, that's some of the best stuff to throw them in.
  10. I use a 200B for Bull Shads but it'll fish bigger baits, just can't cast them a long way because of limited line capacity.
  11. I still haven't figured out how to tie a knot without crossing the line over itself, seems like a pretty important part of the knot is for the line to cross over itself.
  12. Man I wanted that bait to produce for me, but all I could catch were dinks, nothing even over 2 pounds on it. I've not had good success with gill baits despite the fact that they eat a ton of gills here though.
  13. Man you even had the net sitting out and ready!
  14. Love the Berkley hardbaits, really excited for these ones.
  15. Smallies are even harder to guess than largemouth imo. They seem to vary in thickness and density a lot. Did you get a length and girth measurement on it?
  16. A friend and fellow LEO from my last department was shot and killed today, leaving behind 2 grown kids and 1 youngster. The other deputy she was transporting with was also shot and killed. They were transporting a violent inmate when they got into a struggle and he was able to gain control of one of their weapons and shoot both of them, the inmate was also shot but is expected to survive. Such a sad thing and it's almost a daily occurrence that gets almost no attention. RIP Roehner and King, it's going to be a rough next couple days trying to go to work and pretend like everything is okay.
  17. That stinks. I've never caught one, no Redbreast Sunfish around here. Longear Sunfish are the closest we have, very brilliantly colored little fish, especially males during the spawning season.
  18. It's a KVD for sure, looks a 1.0 to me. Better change the hooks, that front one was starting to open up from that fish.
  19. I did it bad a few weeks ago. My son and I had fished the lake a week before and smashed them on small plastics fished on riprap banks. Fishing a tournament a week later, we catch 2 good ones messing around a shallow grass line and then pack it in to go fish what I had planned on doing. Halfway through the day, we have 2 more small fish and nothing else. At the end of one of the riprap banks is a shallow corner with some grass clumps, it'll take 5 minutes to fish, so we fish it. My partner catches our big fish of the night and tournament big bass on a bladed jig. I catch our second biggest and cull one of the small ones on a bladed jig on the next clumps of grass. So we went back to the riprap to really try to upgrade! After about 10 minutes I said what are we doing!? We ran to another shallow stretch with grass and although we didn't catch them, we both had a shot a very solid fish that would have been significant upgrades before the end of the tournament. We still ended up winning and getting big bass, but we should have done so much better than we did if we'd just seen what was right in front of us.
  20. Very nice! I've been there a couple times, beautiful water and great fishing.
  21. I did for about 4 hours lol, got to love them zebra mussels.
  22. My favorite, can't go wrong with a cricket frog popping pad crasher.
