Carp Spawn And Affects On Bass
Normally, if I see carp spawning, I leave because the bass never bite around them. I had a rare exception this year when I had a 4+ and my BIL caught a 5+ out of the edge of the grass the carp were spawning in. Only thing I could think is the carp were running spawning bluegills out of the grass where those big bass were waiting for them.

The smile says it all
Never caught a red but it'll happen some day. They seem like they're a blast to catch.

Warmouth, been catching a ton of them lately here and they're very brightly colored for the spawn.

Gut hooked fish on a Wacky Rig
It happens often, and the question comes up often how to deal with it. If you learn how to properly remove a gut hooked bass, very few of them will go belly up on you like that.

What's wrong with this bass?
Fish are spawning or post spawn a lot of areas right now, puts a lot of stress on them and they'll develop sores and some fish will die as a result of the rigors of the spawn.

Whopper Plopper 110 is here!
Most any of the baitfish colors work but it seems to me they prefer bone, monkey butt, and T1000 in that order.

Not having any issues with either of mine. My Speed Demon was doing some heavy lifting in a bad neighborhood on Thursday.- Whopper Plopper 110 is here!
So I was wrong. 110 outfished the 90 badly today for smallmouth, there was a clear preference from the fish. Wasn't terribly windy, so the 90 was functioning like it was supposed to, one of them was even the same color. Only bad thing is they're too heavy for spinning gear that I use for guide trips.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Less than a week from Japan to my door, awesome.- Whopper Plopper anyone's favorite Topwater Lure?
For smallmouth, it's my most productive topwater without a doubt. I'd rather throw a buzzbait, but they won't eat one of those for some reason.- Easiest lure for a 5 year old to cast out and retrieve?
My son does well with a wacky rigged stick worm, and he's only 3. They don't have to know what a bite feels like, fish hang onto them forever and the small hook digs in really easily. Plus their herky-jerky retrieve style fishes a wacky rig about perfect. Get a worm that is a slower sinker (less salt content), and it will stay up higher in the water where it's less likely to get snagged.- Walking the Dog: Troubleshooting Needed

Some toad spots there!- Whopper Plopper = Crap?
I have over a dozen 90 size ploppers and never had a single issue. I do swap the hooks out to EWG short shank Gamakatsu hooks. They're a little lighter to help the bait stay up and since they're shorter it's harder for the fish to get leverage to throw them. R2S doesn't make their own hooks and it's impossible to tell there's a weak spot in a mass produced hook by looking at it. Just something that happens if you buy enough baits eventually. You might look at the new 110 size. I fished one a lot today and they ate it really well. It's right at the 1oz mark so your rod you currently have should be fine. It rides over the waves and gets up better than the 90's do.- Shallow Pond Tips
Is there any deeper water out of your reach that you know of? A pond that shallow probably wouldn't support a large population of fish, especially if you're above the freeze line. I usually do best in shallow ponds on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. - Kast King Reel Owners
