  1. When I had my 2 man I used to always troll on my way to the next spot. I caught a lot of fish and some big ones doing it. My first bass over 5 pounds was trolling a Yo Zuri crankbait in fact.
  2. I do because I feel it's a good tool to learn from and be able to share my experienceswith others. It's nice to be able to have them to look back on past trips to get a game plan for future trips.
  3. I like to use the lightest weight possible during the winter, 1/8oz has been the magic number the last couple times. I've actually been using a baby brush hog on a shakyhead and doing well.
  4. I'd have to have some a couple spinnerbaits for pond fishing. Have fun!
  5. If you're ripping a lot if grass I'd go straight graphite. If you want composite though, the Composite Cranker from Academy is a great rod for well under $100.
  6. I haven't but the problem with most of those cheap knockoff jointed swimbaits is the joints are weak and or don't allow the bait to move like it should. Bull Shads aren't that expensive and they're built like tanks. Can't count how many times I've bounced mine off the rocks and you can't even see a mark from it.
  7. Bass don't know their lakes don't have shad in them. For all they know, they've just never seen one before. I catch them on shad colors in bodies of water with no shad all the time.
  8. I know a guy who tried one. He said there was a buck of extra plastic in the joint so it wouldn't work right. He had to clean the joint up a bunch with a Exacto knife to get it to do anything.
  9. I'm on a role now! Biggest bass I've caught in a few years on a homemade football jig in thE same color as Seiberts Bluebasser86 storm series jigs,
  10. It almost feels like cheating sometimes. Scary thing, it's even better if you're around smallmouth.
  11. I powder paint mine. They don'tever last long enough to need a super durable paint job.
  12. Exactly why I bought it. I have so Zell Pops still NIP to compare to.
  13. Beautiful day out today. Got done filling bait orders and couldn't help but go back to my dink lake. They were not stacked like yesterday, or I wasn't catching them as good. I did get what was by far the biggest bass I'd caught from there at that spot. decided to go hit the mouth of the main spawning cove. Casting my.little 65 pointer and catching dinks pretty steady, I was thinking if there's a big one in here, she ought to be soaking up this sun right on the edge of this flat. Sure enough, she was there! No scale, wasn't expecting to catch a 2 pounder, let alone one like that. Fat and healthy and she swam away strong after her glamour shots.
  14. Welcome!
  15. Not sure who makes them, but I've owned several and they've been very good reels.
  16. I'd just remove the busted guide and thread, add a new tip, then fish it. Wrapping a new guide isn't terribly difficult as long as you don't mind if it doesn't look professional. I've done it several times but I'm going for function only.
  17. I have the Mojo, guess I should have specified.
  18. I would highly suggest you look into the Ned Rig.
  19. Use whatever you want. There is no way I'm putting up a bait I want to fish because it's bugging my boater. I'd probably fish it the rest of the day whether I was catching fish or not if someone made such a ridiculous request.
  20. @Siebert Outdoors, best to just get the answer from the man himself
  21. The DT series from Rapala and their Rattlin Rap. I've had too many of the DT's fall apart to ever pay what they want for them again, which sucks because they're a good bait. The Rattlin Raps on the other hand, I could throw one of them into a frenzied school of white bass and come back empty handed. They just don't get bit for me even though they obviously catch fish since they've been around for years.
  22. Especially with that long, thin tail. Makes me think of 3 pre-rigged Swing Impacts. I'd rather just rig them myself and get 5 additional baits.
  23. I use plastic and pork year round. The unfortunate answer in this situation, you have to let the fish tell you. I've caught fish on jigs with Rage craws in December, and fish on jigs with pork frogs in July. Matching color is sometimes a mistake too. One of my favorite jig lakes, they actually prefer a mismatched jig and trailer most days. It's just a real game of trial and error. Best thing to do is keep your jig and trailer colors simple, so you limit the variables, to help speed up the process of elimination.
  24. Welcome! Congrats on getting yourself clean and staying that way. That was a quite the intro post
