  1. there are a lot of white bass in downtown Pittsburgh. I had one pushing 3 lbs that i caught on a popper. good fun. they smash the lure like a smallie, after about 5 seconds in though they give up lol. i'd fish for them any day though
  2. upper allegheny is packed with great SM. im talking around Tidiuote. 2.5/3 hrs from PGH. I'd say anywhere above east brady on the allgheney would be decent smallie fishing. Lake Arthur (which i've never personally fished for bass) has a lot from what i hear from other guys. I would fish it if i had a boat, i got a canoe but on a windy day your done on that lake. Big Catfish in there plus muskys and some SM.
  3. for carp/catfish in PA. there are bass in there but your putting out a ton of work for catching one or 2 14 inchers which is basically a trophy out of such a polluted river. maybe its better down in KY
  4. i know quite a bit of good creeks and rivers to fish where you'll get into nice fish. i'll message you on here
  5. fall fish
  6. are you fishing under a bobber or on the bottom? if your on a bobber just try on the bottom or bottom to bobber. it may help deter the turtles from biting but ive never had that problem. also since you said you were going to use the rod you wanted to buy for other species, you could buy a medium action spinning/baitcasting rod and fish for bass while your waiting for your catfish rod to get a bite. that's usually what i do.
  7. IMO you dont need to feel the bittes for cats. I use an old med. action ugly stick spinning rod. Its a beater and i use it alot for carp/cats. I've never had to feel a bite for catfish. they usually just run with the bait so keep an open bail or super loose drag.
  8. wow that was one rough weekend. lol. no body on the river during the tourni caught more than 5 bass.. many people went home with out one in the boat. i caught one dink on a spinner, my dad caught one on a worm. this tourni was multi species, so the guy that one had a 30 lb musky. Kind of disappointed but thats fishing. usually the fishing there is top notch, just nice being in the mountains though. we also enjoyed a nice 5 mile float while fishing. oh well get em next time.
  9. I am going up to fish on the upper allegheny river in NW PA. I know most of you arent familiar with it but it is a great river. Last time i was up there was mid summer. we caught a couple 4 lbers. This rivers average depth is 5ft with occasional 7-10 ft holes. LOTS of islands, the river breaks up in 1-3 islands alot, lots of back channels and what not. Last time we caught a couple on spinners, and one on a tube. Tried poppers with no success. These smallmouth are average 1-3 lbers. The thing is i am not very good at fishing jigs/tubes in moving water. we caught our biggest ones drifting night crawlers right on the edges of currents. Will the fish be in shallow water looking for minnows and what not to fill up for winter? we will be doing a little tournament up there. we fish mostly from canoe. So what are some good early fall SM tactics, what are there patterns this time of year? thanks
  10. nice deer, i've seen a couple about that size this year scouting. doe came in today, buck comes in in 2 weeks with the bow, cant wait!

i just use the good old remington sluggers. i had a rifled barrel, but i couldnt find ammo it liked. i was hitting a 1 foot grouping at 50 yard . i tried a lot of rounds including hornady and some like copper hollow point remington slugs. But now i just use my mossberg sluggster. its a smooth bore with buck horn sights, and it will get the job done to 75. shot a deer running last year and dropped it in its tracks. it doesnt really get the call that much cause i use my .270 alot. but remington sluggers get the job done.
  16. it seems to be such a hassle. use cut bluegill/sunfish and u'll be set. it stays on FOREVER and i seem to catch more fish and quality fish. including a couple 10 lb channels
  17. cut up sunfish and night crawler have been so succesful to me. If you are gonna use crawler you need to know where they are or it wont be effective. i caught a 10+ channel on a crawler
  18. i never got into drop-away rests. always thought that there is room for failure in the field. now a whisker biscuit, that can't fail. glad you like it!
  19. its old school but i still really like using inline spinners for smallies, especially in a river. a blue fox in firetiger should produce well for you, or a mepps black fury.
  20. i really like throwing some kind of popper after a rain or on an overcast day
  21. Great fish! i love fishing any plastic wacky rigged
  22. thats what i was thinking. for catfish i just use fresh cut sunfish or bluegill. works like a charm and stays on the hook FOREVER.
  23. like others have said 5" is a little to big. if ur going to use one use a 3" yum dinger. I caught a really nice 13" crappie on a 4" senko though. roostertails/mepps would work. also some small crankbaits
  24. went fishing and ended up catching another big channel difting a night crawler on the bottom in 10+ feet of water. was looking for some bass but the cats were willing to bite. i was suprised to land this beast on 4 lb test, ul reel and a light rod. it was close to 10lb, around high 20's early 30's inches cause it was almost half of my rod. took me about 10 or so minute to get him in. for some scale im 5'9
