I don't know anything about the financial end of things, but I do know you have provided much in the way of free help, information, and advice to many of us over the years. Thank you. I recently asked the same question specifically for BassPro and Pflueger reels. I talked with J Franco, and via PMs with DVT. Both guys were very professional. I ended up sending 8 reels to Sanother siteBASSER. He did a fine job of cleaning, lubing all the reels, and tuning one of my Pro Qualifiers. I have not yet fished with any of the reels, but what a difference a good servicing make. 8-) All the reels are much smoother, probably more so than when new, and the tuned reel is definitely better than new. Whoever you choose to do the work, you will be amazed at how much better things work; at least I was.

Thanks guys. I get the impression that Hybrid is a little more resistant to abrasion and is a bit stronger than Ultra Soft? I think I'm going to try Hybrid first. #6 for spinning and #12 for casting equipment seems to be the most popular. Any other thoughts before I break my piggy bank? : Thanks for the help. 8-)

I am going to place an order for a few things in the next couple of days and would like to order a couple of 600 yrd. rolls. Which of these do you guys recommend? I've read some old threads, but just want a little input from y'all. Thanks in advance.

I like Spot Remover jigs and Zoom trickworms. I currently use a Pflueger 6730 President reel, 8# trilene XL (I will also try YoZuri Hybrid this year) and a BPS Extreme rod 6'6" MF. The GLoomis Shakyhead rod is very nice if you have the budget.

A jig and craw is my favorite for rip rap. I will usually try a number of different techniques to see what works the best. A light shakyhead jig and trickworm, or a wacky rigged Senko/Stick-o would be next. A crankbait is my last choice-not that they don't work, I just don't much like throwing them.

Everything I own is in that range or less. : I recommend for casting the BassPro Pro Qualifier. Very nice reel for the money. For spinning the Pflueger president at $60 is my choice. The Pflueger Supreme ($99) is also a fine reel. Just my .02 Good luck.

I will pile on with the group that says $400 is better spent on two set-ups than three. You will be happier in the long run IMHO. I would buy a BassPro Pro Qualifier baitcast reel, and a Pflueger President spinning reel, and spend the rest on two good rods. A M-F spinning rod and a M-XF or MH-F will cover most fishing situations. Just my opinion. Enjoy the process. 8-) Good luck.

I use spinning for wacky rigging, and I fish a Senko wacky rigged most of the time. I have thrown them off while casting. I doubt that my thumb would have responded in time to prevent a serious professional overrun had I been using casting gear. Just my .02. Try both and use what works best for you. Good luck.

As has been mentioned, the amount of line retrieved per turn of the handle is the most important number when choosing the speed of a reel. It is usually expressed in Inches Per Turn or IPT. I find 26-28 IPT to be what I'm most comfortable with. I have a couple of 30 IPT reels that I use for heavy cover and buzzbaits. It just comes down to personal preference IMO. Good luck.

That really is the truth. I have occasionally re-read posts I've made that were sarcastic or just plane ornery, and asked myself, "self, what were you thinking?" ::)Sometimes the frustrations of the day show up here. It is like when I argue with my wife; sometimes the words are out there before I can get my tongue in check... I do like the banter. Spirited conversation is one of the things that makes life interesting. 8-)

I don't have a dog in this fight, so have stayed out of the discussion till now. I am puzzled by this though; If I send a rod back to GLoomis that I believe is defective for warranty replacement and they determine it is not I have no further recourse? If I send the same rod back using the xpiditer service, I receive a replacement rod for $50. How do I know if the rod is defective? Even if it brakes while removing it from its original packaging can I know for sure that it wasn't damaged during packaging? The only reason for such a policy that I can see, is to discourage customers from asking for a free replacement for a defective rod. I understand that GLoomis makes one of the finest rods in the business, and that many people will try to take advantage, but to deny access to the xpiditer service if the warranty replacement is denied is punitive and just bad business in my opinion.

Trick worms are my favorite to use on a light shakeyhead jig. Gives them a little different look than T-rigged. Good luck.

I have an older aluminum modified-V that will beat you up in rough water if you are not very careful. Those are the times I wish for something else. The newer hulls on Tracker and other aluminum boats are far better and if I had the cash, that is the way I'd go.

Sratos 375, I don't know you well enough to call you a "tool" (your words, not mine ). I started bass fishing from a tin "pike boat", and have since moved up to an 18' tin bass boat. It is a bass boat BTW, and I consider myself a serious fisherman. That could be argued if you want, I'm OK with that. What cannot be argued is that there are MANY others on this site that fish from aluminum boats. A large number of these folks can hold there own on the water with you or anyone else. There are many reasons why fishermen choose aluminum over glass, and if your as experienced and serious as you say you are, I don't have to list them for you. I will if you like. You can choose to feel superior because you fish from a glass boat if want to. I don't get. I don't have to. What I can tell you is this, if you post on this site "despising" "tin" boat fishermen or bank fishermen it won't make any difference what else you bring to the table, you will not be taken seriously by many of us. Just my $.02

I use 6.4:1 ratio reels for just about everything. The Inch Per Turn rate is 26". 6.3 should be fine for whatever you want to use them for IMO.

I paid $200 more than that on sale. Great buy! I think you will like the TM and the US2 is a really nice feature. Edit: I just checked my sales receipt. You saved $260 on my price.

I agree with fishfordollars, that 8 is much too big to use up front. : I have a 5 (w/Lake Insight) that has only been used one season that I am willing to trade... ;D Sorry fishfordollars I couldn't resist.
