I really like the sound of that Quadratic braking. I'm told you can cast a #5 Shad Rap on 20# fluorocarbon into a gale force wind without using your thumb. Bearings in the box lid is a nice feature as well. I understand the pricing is somewhere between the Core and the Steeze?

rod repair question
I recently received a St. Croix glass cranking rod that used to belong to my brother. I know that it is not a high end rod, but my brother was killed in accident 10 years ago so the rod has value to me. The rod guides are missing inserts at the top and bottom. I can easily replace the top guide, but the other is more problematic. What do you guys recommend? Thanks Kirby

Rods and reels.. How many do you take with you when fishing from the bank?
My last bank fishing trip, I took 4 or 5 rods and a good sized tackle bag for me and my wife. It was a serious pain dragging all that around. She used 1 and I used 2 in several hours of fishing. This year one each with a backup in the truck, and much less terminal tackle. That is my story and I'm stickin to it. :

Crankin reel Question
I don't do much cranking either. When I do, I use a BPS PQ in 6.4:1 (26IPT). It works just fine. It is the same rig I use for hard jerkbaits and topwater walking baits.

BPS 2010 BC Reel Lineup
RW I will say this; you are consistent. You never miss a chance at taking a shot. Glenn always preaches the gospel of not bashing the stuff other folks use. It is a policy I support. I wish you did the same. Thanks for the heads-up Goose. 8-)I have not received the new catalog. I don't think the Cabonlite reel is available in LH, so I will have to wait to try one.

how do you guys organize your soft plastics?
I use this bag. It keeps things in their place, making inventory a lot easier. It has plenty of outside pocket room to keep "active" and used baits. Everything remains in the original package. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37109_100011010_100000000_100011000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT I have the double bag.

Got hit by a trojan
I just checked my history and there were two attempted "invasions" blocked by my Norton 360. I've never been a big Norton fan, but the 360 is by far better than anything I've used to date. My laptop doesn't have the resources to run the Norton program. Is there a good program out there for an older computer that will provide adequate protection?

New fish for Dave
Internal pressure=external pressure. I don't get how anything works at that pressure though.

Quit the chew: cost me a fortune
That is one addiction I haven't dealt with. : As a long time smoker who has been a non-smoker for many years I can tell you that the biggest savings from quitting will likely be in reduced medical costs long term. It does not take much health care to equal the cost of a boat load of tackle. Hang in there. Good luck.

senko setup: casting vs spinning
I use spinning for both applications. If I used either in heavy cover, I would then use BC. Just my .02

Hope I get use to reeling left handed!
It just feels right correct to me to hold the rod in my power hand. I have better control of the rod and the fish. It didn't hurt that the first baitcaster I ever used was an old LH Shimano. Having learned that way, when I use a RH reel it feels awkward to me. I don't think it makes much difference though; use what works for you. If that LH reel doesn't work out, send it do me and I'll put it to good use for you.

Zoom Brush Hogs
+1 The baby size has become one of my go-to baits. I use them a lot of times where I used to use a worm or lizzard. I use a 3/0 EWG for the baby size and a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG for the regular.

Finesse Spining VS Casting
Sanother siteBASSER that is as good a tutorial on fishing spinning reels as I have ever read. I drove myself crazy with loops, twists, and lack of line/distance control until I finally began to use the methods you describe. Now "fingering" the line and closing the bale by hand are second nature. I have found that if I lift the rod tip as I close the bail it positions the line on the roller most of the time. These habits sure make finesse fishing a lot more effective (and fun). Simp I think , as has been said, that you can do many of the finesse techniques with a the proper BC rig. I have been thinking about getting ML rig to try, but I think there are times when a spinning rig is the only way to go. Let's get together this spring down at Cedar Lake and compare notes. 8-)

My stupidy manifests itself once more.
I did the same thing the first time I opened a centrifugal reel. Fortunately it was a display reel at Walmart. : I also felt kind of stupid... Good thing is you will only make that mistake once.

BPS Pro Qualifier Baitcast Reel - New Ratios Available
I have both Extremes and PQs. I like the Extremes for the money, but the PQs are much smoother reels, and the dual braking system is great. The 6.4:1 ratio is 26" Inches Per Turn which I find to be perfect for most of my fishing.
