Lowrance HDS7 or 8-Which to Buy?
After reading your post I checked the prices because I knew the Lake Insight was not that much more on mine. It is $50 on the HDS-5. The other units have Insight USA which must be a more sophisticated program, based on the $200 price tag. I didn't notice any difference when fishing with the 7 on my friends boat. So, for $50 on the 5, I think it is a great deal. For the others I don't know.

Carolina Rig Weight
In addition to not having the free movement of a sliding weight, you don't have the noise of weight against bead/beads or clacker. I think that is a part of why a Crig works as well as it does.

I looked around before buying this set at Wal-Mart.The packaging was different; but made by the same company. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104363_225010006_225000000_225010000_225-10-6

Lowrance HDS7 or 8-Which to Buy?
Im considering the 5 for my kayak this spring, yeah I know, on a kayak ;D. How is it to use regarding simplicity, Im all for reading the manual but I dont want to goto MIT to learn the thing. Once through the manual and you're good to go for most everything you need. Adjusting sensitivity, speed, zoom, bottom lock, split screens, way points, and map use are all fairly straight forward. With that said, it is a lot smarter than I am, so it has capabilities that I'm still figuring out. I am enjoying the learning process. It's another cool toy to play with. As far as using good electronics on a kayak, why not? I have an older aluminum boat that I have re-furbished. Some would say putting high end equipment on an inexpensive boat doesn't make sense. My answer to that is nonsense. I enjoy my boat and having good equipment makes me happy and improves my fishing. Isn't that what it's all about?

Lowrance HDS7 or 8-Which to Buy?
Jack, I can't advise you between 7 and 8. The 7 is a great unit. It is the biggest I have seen. In my opinion the lake Insight is well worth the money. I have it on my HDS-5. Kirby

Hey deep fryer fans!
When you're frying up some fish, slice a couple of potatoes about a 1/4' thick-no need to peel. Dip them in the same mixture as you're using on the fish and add to hot oil. Peel an onion and do the same. It will make your tongue jump up and slap the roof of your mouth. Like the others have said, as far as oil is concerned, the big jug at Walmart is the way to go.

Camo Combo!

What a mess. Even here in the Midwest where people see that kind of weather once in a while, those conditions would create havoc. Sure is pertty though.- Camo Combo!
When Bantum1, the Shimano rep was asked that question about some of their reels, his response was the market wasn't big enough to justify the cost of manufacturing LH reels in all models. I would guess that is the case with Ardent as well. The selection of LH reels is getting better, but still limited for those of us who use the correct hand to reel with.- Pro Qualifier Rod
I have one PQ, a 7' MXF that is is my light jig and plastic rod. It is a great rod for the money in my opinion. I use it more than any of my other baitcast setups. I have a PQ reel on it and it is just slightly tip heavy. It is a nice combo. 8-)- Shimano Forum
I originally posted on the thread started by Bantum1, so I'll add this comment: Glenn you have nothing to apologize for in my opinion. You have been up front about the arrangement from the beginning. It's unfortunate, but that is business. Thank you for providing a great forum. I appreciate it.- Shimano Forum
I also hate to see you go. It was an excellent service you provided. Thanks, and good luck.- BPS Pro Qualifier Baitcast Reel - New Ratios Available
Thanks for the heads up. I have two and plan on adding a couple more. I might have to add a slower speed...- LED trailer lights
After a couple of months of using the lights my only comment is 'Why did I wait so long?' 8-)- Covering offensive tattoos
I've read nothing to indicate that is a court appointed defense attorney for this case, although it well may be. I usually find myself in the devil's advocate role. I am glad not to be the one this time. 8-) To decide a persons guilt based on their looks is absolutely wrong. That a person is considered innocent until proven guilty is foundational to our society. I completely agree with you on this. That is not the issue here in my opinion. The issue is altering appearance to try to influence a jury. I don't think he has that right. He certainly doesn't have the right for me to pay for it. This guy has obscene and racially offensive tattoos in plain sight. That is not a crime, but it does say something about him. It speaks to his judgement if nothing else, but the truth is it doesn't make any difference as far as the trial is concerned. He has a right to a fair trial, the right to an attorney, and a right to speak on his own behalf. He also has the right to be found innocent if there is reasonable doubt that he committed the crime. If there are bigots on the jury panel, the defense attorney has the responsibility, and right to weed them out. It is a system that works pretty well. Let the case be tried on its merits, and let the facts decide.- Covering offensive tattoos
I'll add my .02, just for the sake of conversation. The prosecutor had nothing to do with this; it was the defense attorney. He knows that his client's appearance will be judged by the jury. He also knows that judgement will likely be negative, so he is doing everything he can to get his knot-headed client an innocent verdict. It sets an interesting precedent. Since being overweight is viewed negatively by many, including many of us who are overweight, an obese defendant might ask for a few months of Jenny Craig so that his obesity would not negatively influence his jurors. Or maybe a defendant who needs dental work because of his addiction to drugs should have the work done before his trial, so as not to negatively influence his jurors with a less than perfect smile? If the victim was murdered by a thug with visible tattoos, whether they were of Nazi symbols and profanity or bunnies and flowers, then that is the person who should stand before his accusers. He does not have any right to be cosmetically altered to improve his chances and I certainly have no obligation to pay for it.- rod length
I have two inexpensive Browning rods, 2 piece 6' light/moderate action with matching Browning reels. I bought them as combos on sale at BPS. Spooled with 4# Trilene XL, I can throw a 1/16 oz. lure farther than I can effectively fish it. To answer your question, all things being equal you will cast farther with the 5'6" rod. - Beautiful Sunny California
