  1. I have two of the smaller size (6730) that I am well satisfied with. One has two seasons of use, the other only one, but both have many hours of use.
  2. Spinning: Pflueger President 6730 Casting: BPS Pro Qualifier

If I don't tie something new on, I almost always re-tie everything the night before as I prepare for the trip. I usually make my best guess based on conditions and past experience on the lake I'm fishing if possible. I like to have a plan of where I will start and what I will throw, and if that doesn't work, where and what next. If after going through the playbook I'm not catching much, if anything, then I may mix it up a bit. At one time I would quickly run through my entire box trying to find the magic bait. Now days I spend a lot more time on location than bait. I know that I may miss some fish doing it this way, but experience has taught me what works well for me. I probably should do more "lure testing" but you know what they say about teaching old dogs...

I like both the Spook and the Super Spook. I have also had great success with the Puppy on farm ponds, but would agree that most of the time it is a dink catcher. The bigger ones I throw on a 6'6" M/F baitcast set up. The puppy on a 6'6" M/F spinning rig.
  5. The thought of spending 6 hrs cranking a 20' ledge in 70 degree weather, let alone 100 degree, is enough to make me take up needlepoint. ;D ;D Course I ain't riding a bike up any hills either. : We all tend to think and respond to questions/statements based on our style of fishing. I am a tournament fisherman and if I need to deep crank for 8 hrs in a tournament on my knees with the rod 4 ft into the water to gain 4 ft more lure run depth I want a reel that cranks easier. And in the area I live if you want to win any money in the warmer months you must deep crank. But to a totally pleasure fisherman it probably doesn't matter, whatever trips your trigger..............Al Al you make a great point. 8-) My response really didn't address the question posed. If I fished for real money, and cranking deep is what it took to win, I would definitely use a slower speed reel.

  7. My experience with wireless and wired electrical controlled TMs has not been good. They just don't respond fast enough in my opinion. I had a MG with two wireless controls that nearly caused my head to explode every time out. I bought a MK Fortrex earlier this year and life is good. Digital control is MUCH more energy efficient than a multi-speed control and the assisted stow/ deploy makes it very user friendly. Roger (RoLo) loves his wireless and I hated mine. It is a personal preference thing. Before you spend the money on wireless I would strongly recommend you try one first. Edit: Another thing that I found with the electrical controlled TM is you don't know what direction the unit is pointed without looking at the head. With a with a cable control you know by the position of your foot. Just my .02 Good luck
  8. A very Zen-like attitude. While I am not a Buddhist, I agree that fishing allows me to commune with nature in a spiritual way. It reminds me that I am not the center of things, and that when I slow down and listen all of creation speaks to me. I also like to catch more than my competition. :
  9. It took me several years too. I guess we're just underachievers. Glad to have you around.
  10. A three inch grub on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. slider jig is a favorite of mine. A roadrunner jig in the above weights is an old stand-by. White or something like it, or chartreuse are the colors I like.
  11. Congratulations.
  12. I have had no problems with Extreme reels (I have 3) or Pro Qualifier reels (2). I have 2 years on the Extremes and one on the PQs. I like the Extremes and I love the PQs. I will not buy a used reel on Ebay. I'll take my chances with a new reel that can be returned over one that cannot. Just my.02
  13. Senkos, jigs, baby brush hogs, beaver baits(BPS brand), 11" Zoom Magnum worms... There seems to be a pattern here...
  14. A lot of folks in my neighborhood don't seem to know about ice scrapers at all. They manage to scrape @ 6" spot in line with the steering wheel and they are good to go. Some will go so far as to scrape a couple of peep holes in the side windows for safety's sake. : I do like the de-icer more in my old age... 8-)
  15. An excellent rant. 8-) The total lack of attention to detail and focus on the job at hand is amazing. Of all the many sins of omission and commission the greatest, in my mind anyway, is that he didn't know you had reeled in his line until after you had begun to untangle things. How does that happen? :-? Did you see the movie, "A river runs through it?" If you did, you will remember the scene in which the the brother of one of the girls shows up late, with a beat up old baitcaster and a can of worms for a fly fishing trip. Brad Pitts character says something like, "Around here there are three things you are not late for: work, church, and fishing." The guy ended up drunk, and badly sunburned (among other things) with no fish. That's your boater. ;D
  16. It doesn't take a degree in psychology to know there is a difference in passively watching a movie, even one with "destructively influential content," and actively participating in a game in which points are awarded for reprehensible behavior. The point has been made a couple of times in this thread that whether we like it or not, movies, television, music, games and many other cultural influences have an effect on the mores of society as a whole. Mores is defined as "the customs and habitual practices that a group of people accept and follow especially as they reflect moral standards." The "customs and habitual practices" of our society today are different than when I was a child; different than when I was raising a child; and with all of the exposure to media and cultural influences of all kinds, are much different for parents raising children today. I don't think it hurts to examine how these influences effect society. I think it is irresponsible not to.
  17. I have a couple of friends who are pretty good fishermen that have the same problem with slowing down. One fishes a crankbait most of the time, the other is a spinnerbait guy. They will slow down if I am catching all the fish using a slow technique, but neither of them like to fish that way. I have the same problem with fast moving baits. I don't have much patience with them; they really don't suit me and I will use them only when I have to. My advise is discipline yourself to learn how to fish slowly because there are times when you have to do it that way, but more importantly learn what works for you and master those techniques. A good crankbait fisherman can almost always find some fish that will bite and a good jig fisherman can do the same.
  18. The local Thai House has 4 levels of heat, with the hottest being "Thai hot". It will make me sweat and my nose run a little. I am of the group that thinks if you're not sweating and your nose isn't dripping, it is not hot enough. On the other hand once you go beyond habanero hot I'm not so happy. I encountered the ghost pepper one time and they are too hot for me.
  19. Ya'll shore know how to eat down there. I think I must have some Cajun blood...
  20. I agree. I also believe the game is far too graphically violent. I think the argument that it is just a game or that rap music promoting drug use and violence is just music is way too simple. I think questioning these things is legitimate, and that it is important to do so. I also think you have every right to disagree with me.
  21. While I can't be of any help identifying the lure, I appreciate your sharing the pictures and story. It takes me back a few years also. 8-)

I'm recording it. I can't take all the commercials.
  23. What's your opinion on the tone of their responses? I understand he didn't like the rating, but you received a reel that was not packaged properly. What would have been his response if it had been damaged? The fact that sometimes things get beat up in shipping makes the case for taking a little care in my opinion. Your rating is based on your experience, i.e., would you buy from this seller again? I think the answer is obvious.
