Crawfish, frogs, snakes, and probably many other species will find a body of water. In addition to avid's method, some simply wil travel long distance to find a new home. Just natures way I suppose...
  2. Well said. Nice fish as well.

The c-rig is one of my favorites, and I agree with what has been said. Unlike RoLo I prefer the C-rig; it suits my fishing style better. I will use a t-rig, but will often use a jig instead. I like fishing deep water structure, and that is where a c-rig really shines. Good luck.
  4. A baseball loving, funny talking, bass fishing Ney York boy in Utah will blend in about as well as Joe Pesci's character did in the movie "My Cousin Vinney." ;D Good luck brother.
  5. Papa it sounds like a great rod for the deep, clear waters of Bull Shoals. I've always used a baitcasting rig for all but the lightest of crankbaits, but for your waters this sounds like a great outfit. I've never used, or even played with, a Sustain but I bet that is a sweet reel? Good luck with the new gear.
  6. Welcome to the forum Come on in, take your shoes off, sit a spell.
  7. I have used light (1/4-1/2 oz.) c-rigs on a 6-6 MH spinning rod in very clear water, and had some success. Most of the time I use 3/4-1oz on a heavy action baitcast rod. I think baitcast gear is better suited to this technique, but to each his own. Good luck.
  8. Like most of the others I like a jig. That is a steep slope, but there will likely be a few shelves along the way that provide good ambush spots for fish. A grub, t-rigged worm or creature bait are worth trying also. The size and weight of the rig will vary depending on water temp. and time of year. Sometimes a heavy jig and craw or football jig with one of many plastics (I like a spider grub) will work great, at other times a small worm or grub with a light weight or jig will work well. Working a c-rig down the slope is another good option. I like to work it down at various angles to the wall, including parallel as close as possible, then moving out until I have worked the base of the wall. Sometimes you can find concentrations of fish on a steep bank close to a creek/river channel, flat, or wood and catch a bunch of fish in one spot. Man talking about this is making me want to go fishing. Good luck.

Muddy I think wearing both a Mets and Yankees shirt at the same time is a very bad idea. Knowing you NY guys, your head may grow so large you will not be able to get it in the boat. Good job Riskkid. 8-)
  10. Way to go Matt Fly for going nearly a year without smokes. Even if you subtract the cost of cigars from the total, you've saved a lot of money. Well if you are like me you haven't really saved the money, just spent it on other things-fishing I hope. Its been about 10 years for me. I *** your ability to smoke the occasional good cigar. I miss them more than the cigarettes, but know myself well enough to know that if I smoke at all it will just be a matter of time before I am back to a pack or two a day. That is just my nature. Keep up the good work.

I'm sorry to hear that more surgery is needed. You're in my thoughts and prayers brother. Good luck.
  12. I think the Cards will have to spend that much to keep Suppan and Weaver. :-?
  13. I agree. He needs to go "bass fishing" with a few carefully chosen members of US Special Forces.
  14. Lane After reading as much as I can find on this issue, I have come to the conclusion that while I do not understand all of the enviromental and economic consequences of this Federal directive, there is enough information to question whether this action is in the best interests of the fishing community. The main concern I have is the increased in-flow of fish of all types from out of the region. In an effort to protect the region from one disease, it appears this Federal order may make us more vulnerable to other diseases shipped in from other areas. After reading the Illinois DNR statement it makes sense to me to take a second look at the issue before acting. I am as committed to the "aquaculture" as anyone . I think we must be informed and active if we sportsmen and women are to protect the resources we've been given. I am also cynical enough to believe special interest groups are all to willing to take advantage of any situation that will further their agenda. It makes me a little nervous when the Feds start to micro-manage the affairs of the individual states. We will not all agree on all the issues, but knowing what the issues are is a good thing. Lane, thank you for your heads-up. K_Mac
  15. Hey muddy, I'm guessing it would take a big, hungry gator to eat a tough old bird like avid ;D
  16. That is a very "St. Louis" question I am an "east side" guy but live 40 miles south of the East St. Louis mess. I think Senile got it right that St. Louis is "landlocked" by countless small communities, with a shrinking economic base. The per-capita crime rate may be higher than some other cities, but it does not reflect the crime rate of the St. Louis Metro Area. The problems here are the same as many other urban areas, but the St. Louis area in general is great place to live and raise a family. Just my .02
  17. Russ Those are amazing catches any time, and very nearly anyplace. Some of the Cali guys and a few of the Deep South guys may have water that can produce bigger fish in greater numbers, but your last couple of videos show largemouth fishing that is for most of us, as good as it gets. RoLo mentioned a "salt lick" I was thinking BGH (Bass Growth Hormones) Your not "Juicing" are you? ;D Just kidding. Great video-thanks for sharing.
  18. My final thoughts on the 2006 season? WOW ;D ;D ;D It was a wild ride for the Birds. In 2004 we won 105 games and got our brains beat out by a Boston team that would not be denied. This year we had a bunch of key players hurt and limped into the playoffs, and we were the team that would not quit. Baseball is a great game. 8-) This thread made the season more fun for me. I looked forward to check in every day to see what was going on. There was a lot of good natured kidding and talk that made the whole thing more interesting. Thank you all for helping make the 2006 season an unforgetable one for this WORLD CHAMPION St. Louis Cardinal fan.

I agree George. Nice post Sam.
  20. That was exhausting. I feel like I pitched that last inning. muddy_man you are a class act; you pulled for us even when we sent your team home. You're a true BASEBALL fan. I'm with you-it is about time a NL team stands in the spotlight.
  21. RW We Card fans can feel Detroit's pain. Getting swept in 2004 was gut-wrenching. Sometimes the wheels just come off and nothing you can do will fix it. It 's part of what makes the game great.
  22. Good idea muddy. On behalf of the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals (this may be alttle premature ) I accept the role of thread starter ;D (unless someone else beats me to it)
  23. It sounds like a very worthwhile weekend. If you had been able to call the shots Sunday, you may have finished in the money. You were able to learn from both the good and bad example. Keep up the good work. Good luck with your Georgia move. I've spent a little time there, and like the people and the fishing very much. They do talk funny...
  24. If we play tonight weather will be a HUGE factor; very wet, windy, and cold. It looks like it might clear enough, with an hour or two delay, but conditions will be UGLY. On the up-side both pitchers wil be allowed to use pine tar, axle grease, Brylcreme, hair spray, etc. This is not the policy of Major League Baseball, just a "gentleman's" agreement between managers.
  25. Cards 5 Detroit 4 I love this game ;D 8-) ;D
