  1. I hope you kept and ate that little fella; a little butter and a splash of lemon juice...mmmm good. I guess it is not too unusual to catch trout on minow immitating lures-at least browns, but that is a very big bait for a fish that size. That's one of the things that make fishing interesting-you never know what the next cast might catch. 8-) Edit: After reading back through the thread I see you didn't keep the fish. Probably good that you didn't, without knowing the rules for trout. I've fished a couple of times for trout in Missouri, and always had to have a trout stamp. Fun to catch, esp. on ultra-light gear.

In spite of what Lauri and the folks at Rap-a-la say, their lures will always be Re-pel-as to me.
  3. Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a thread in the "Fishing Tackle" section. It will give you an idea of the most popular baits of many. You will see jigs, Senkos, Ikas, c-rigs, and several others that show up often. It's worth a look. Good luck and enjoy the process of finding what works best for you. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1160715639/36#36 If you get a chance, look through some of the other older threads and you will get a lot info on favorite lures and techniques. Enjoy.
  4. Wow! K_Mac, you are a natural politician ;D Now that really hurts.
  5. I think avid and RoLo make great points, and are both right. It just depends on the women. If you have a woman who is interested and willing to learn, and you won't let her go or are not willing to help and encourage her when she does, you are missing some real quality time with her. My wife is a very good fisherwoman, and we have had many great times together on the water. We enjoy our time together fishing, and since my health problems have kept us from going lately, we both miss it very much. On the other side of the coin, I've seen guys try to make their wives or girlfriends go fishing with them when they are not really interested. That is a bad idea. I am not saying that if your girl is a fisherwoman she should go everytime you do. Fishing with someone else or alone may sometimes be just what you (or she) needs. Just my .02.
  6. Me too.
  7. Thank you to all who serve, and have served to keep this nation free. We all owe a great debt to our military men and women. God bless you.

RW makes a good point, a single tail grub is more of a baitfish immitator. While I have fished single tailed grubs a lot, I have never fished a single tail skirted grub. When I say a "spider Jig" I was thinking of jig with a skirted double tail grub. That I would crawl, hop, pop, rip, stitch, ect. depending on what works best. The weight of the jig also makes a big difference if they are taking it on the fall. Good luck.

Yep. Let the fish tell you what they want. Very good choiceIMHO.
  10. Me too, or is it two, or maybe to? Shouldn't this post be in "General Bass Fishing"?
  11. I would add: yes, affirmative, without a doubt Wear a PFD and be careful. You can get in trouble in small boat if the wind kicks up. Go and have fun. ;D

avid Beneath that crusty exterior is a big heart. Thanks for your concern. You're alright with me; I don't care what anyone says. ;D Good luck with your recovery. I look forward to hearing more of your fishing adventures. Thanks man.
  13. Welcome aboard. There are a lot of folks on this site from your neck of the woods. Many of them can fish a little. ;D Enjoy.
  14. Good luck young man. Work hard and keep your nose clean and we'll soon be reading about all the "high end" tackle you have aquired. Hang in there and keep us posted.

I could not say it any better. PM one or all of us if you want to talk. May God bless you and keep you safe in His loving hand.
  16. RW , I'm not a big country fan, but I did watch most of the show. Your gal Carrie Underwood is really something. WOW The producers of the show messed up having her start the show; everything that followed paled in comparison. Did I mention WOW?
  17. Congratulations. I was your age when my daughter was born. Now she is your age! She is our only one, and has been a real blessing. A daughter will always be daddy's little girl, and will likely wrap you around her tiny finger. Mine now has three beautiful kids of her own, but she is still my baby. Enjoy every moment; time passes very quickly.
  18. LOL ...... point and click ........ Yeah I've got skills. ;D Isn't technology wonderful! What seperates the good photographers from the rest is awareness of what makes a great picture-light, color, and all the other things that i don't really understand. :-? I don't really have the skills to do it, but I know a good one when I see one. Nice picture.
  19. I have had very good luck with 6" and 8" Zoom lizards. They are my go-to baits.

After reading Paparock's post (and the PM he sent to me) I have decided to post the PM I sent to avid. My problems limit my activity, but I am blessed in so many ways, I hope I do not come accross as feeling sorry for myself. You are right avid, Paparock's attitude and his gracious offer to me and others who might want to talk is inspirational. I will make the same offer; if anyone wants to talk or just howl at the moon, give me a shout. avid I unfortunately qualify for membership in this "club." Over the last couple of years I have had trouble with black outs. The accepted medical thought has been that it is heart related. I passed out during a tilt -table test where my heart rate went < 35 bpm before I went out. I had a pacemaker installed to correct this. It does keep my heart rate more regulated, but has not fixed the problem, so the testing continues. I have changed blood pressure meds more than socks the last several months . My blood pressure is more stable, but the problem persists. My driving, fishing, and most every other activity has been severly limited. Some days are pretty good, others not no much. I am still hoping and praying for an answer, but in the meantime I spend quite a bit of time writing, and talking to you and others on BassResource.com. I have come to think of you and many others on this site as friends. I can't fish much, if at all, most of the time but enjoy this site very much. If and when I get back on the water, I will be a better and more complete fisherman because of my time spent here. Thanks for your part in making this site a great place to spend time. Kirby
  21. Congratulations. For all of you guys that are still trying, let AL be an example to you. I'm here to tell you, you can do it, and it's worth the effort. It is NOT easy, and 10 years later I still reach for my shirt pocket once in a while, but the urge quickly goes away. Good luck.
  22. Welcome back Lady Bass. I've crossed a line or two in my day. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. I trust the judgement of Glenn and the Mods on this board. If you're good with them, you're ok with me. BTW-It's almost all small stuff.

    I'm in. PM sent.
  24. I am reading this thread before I head out to vote. Like many others I feel a responsibility to vote that is stronger than my disgust with the politics and campaign rhetoric. I live on the Illinois side, but I get St. Louis local television, so I have had to listen to the Talent/McCaskell adds almost non-stop for the last several weeks. Both parties have poured millions into this election because of its national importance, and both paties should be ashamed of the way this has been handled. As KU said if you could believe what was said by the two sides, both candidates should go to jail. The Illinois campaigns have been a little less offensive , but only a little. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to vote because of disillusionment with the system. Now I will rant for a minute: It is not our system of government that is broken, it is the system of funding campaigns. As long as special interests can spend millions to buy the favor of politicians by giving huge amounts of money (both"hard" and "soft") to campaign funds we will have this mess. The way our system is set up now, if you do not dance to the tune of special interest groups you will not have the money to be elected or stay to in office. When the stakes are so high campaign managers and party leaders will do anything to get their candidate elected. It is more about money and influence than what is right for the American people. I feel better to have gotten that out of my system. BTW, I think I will do as Riskkid did and write-in a few names this time. By the time I got this posted Senile has alredy made my point, but I will just add my .02
