  1. I wish you well Sloan. I suspect that like me, you are too ornery to kill easily.
  2. Beautiful vocal. I love music of all kinds, but the pure sound of a great singer with a simple acoustic accompaniment is about as good as it gets. Very well done!
  3. If you only bought one bag that really doesn't count! Yes, they are a very good good bait.
  4. Yep. I spent almost a week taking serious narcotics before I felt like I might live. As you can see, some people have little problem with this. Two of my teeth came out easily. I could have fished later that day. You may be able to fish a day or two after, but I would not count on it based on my experience. Fishing while under the influence, while sick and in pain is not my idea of a good time.
  5. As already stated, it depends on you and your teeth. I had mine removed a long time ago. The last two did not want to be removed and I spent several days doing nothing but whining, sniveling and growling at my wife. Fishing was not an option. Good luck.
  6. I am also saddened to hear this news. I always enjoyed our conversations about fishing, fitness, and life in general. He had a great attitude about life, and I will miss his input. My prayers are with his girls and the rest of his family.
  7. Evan reeling against the drag, and reeling under stress are not the same thing. If that stress causes flex, and gearing to bind even slightly, then it is a problem. There are many high quality reels made of carbon materials that work perfectly. DVT is absolutely right as always.
  8. This is my favorite comment on this thread. Well said! I have tried many diets over the years but not this one specifically, although it is possible I may have tried it a time or two in the seventies. I have spent a few nights alone in remote locations, under the influence more than once, and have never seen anything that caused me to believe bigfoot lives. On two occasions I have heard what I believe were big cats, but it might have been something else. The imagination runs wild in these circumstances.
  9. Lake of the Ozarks is one of the most dangerous lakes in the Midwest. It used to be regular destination for me and is still one the best bass fisheries around, but it is just too crazy for me to enjoy fishing there. I will also pray for a quick recovery.
  10. 6 or 8# Invisx would be a good place to start. It is what I use with good success. I am not a fan of braid and use fluorocarbon on both spinning and casting gear. I agree with WRB that care must be taken with knots and a good line conditioner (I use KVD Line and Lure) is helpful.
  11. Bearing count is an iffy way of judging reel quality at best. Shimano's workhorse reels generally have less bearings than other lesser quality reels in the same price range. Now before I am attacked as a Shimano fan boy, I currently do not have one in my lineup. My point is there is a difference in components, fit, and finish in reels that define value. A quality reel that lasts a lifetime is a good value when compared to a little cheaper one that does not. Shopping price, bearing count, or even manufacturer without doing your research is not a good idea IMO.
  12. I remember 85 only too well! It was one of those times that helped me understand that life is too short to get too high or low because of the win or loss of a sports team.
  13. Well said my friend. Of course one of us would beat him occasionally. The odds are not too good of that happening often though. He has devoted his life to catching bass, and has reached the highest level professionally. That did not happen easily, quickly or without great natural talent and a very strong commitment to being the best.
  14. A-Jay as you know I am not a Pats fan. But like them or not, they are clearly the team to beat. From what I've seen, I would not bet against them.
  15. Congratulations KC. Very impressive. Well done.
  16. It is kind of fun not having a dog in the hunt. I don't know who wins this thing, but these are really good teams. If you are a fan of the game, this is as good as it gets.
  17. The quote is a paraphrase of Henry David Thoreau. The older I get, the more I understand that catching fish is only a small part of fishing.
  18. Easy there grasshopper. This is far from over. Having been a baseball fan for a long time, I have learned that stuff happens. KC looks great, but the Mets will not go easy.
  19. Great advice. Weight depends on many things, but I don't think 3/8 oz is a bad choice. I like being able to shake it in place. That's just my opinion. Martens videos will answer your questions.

My wife and I talk regularly about our budget. Some months a few extra expenses are no big deal, some months we buy only what is needed. Communication is the key. It has worked well for us for a long time. The my money/her money system works for some. I have a friend who gets an allowance to spend as he wants. There is more than one system that works. I am not a fan of either partner having to ask permission, but you have to have a system or trouble wiill find you. It will occasionally find you even if you have one! Good luck!

    Great fish! Congratulations.
  22. Excellent post Senile1. The world is still a dangerous place, though we can't live our lives in fear. I am a big advocate for concealed carry, but it is not a guarantee of anything. For all we know this fisherman could have been carrying. My point is we do the best we can, and life happens.

The biggest problem with both snaps and swivels is most people, especially newer fishermen, don't retie them often enough. I use snaps at times with cranks, but I am careful to retie regularly. The added size and weight of a snap swivel does impact action on many baits IMO, and is just one more thing to catch junk in the water. Just my $.02.
  24. I also have four with many miles on them that are my workhorse reels. I have had no trouble with them. I also have a couple of the old Extremes. They get used often. They are not of the same quality as the PQs, but they have held up well. I think that BPS offers good value for the money on many products, including some reels. I also know that buying anything based on price only is not always the best value. Buying entry level stuff increases the risk of getting something that won't perform as desired. Doing your research first is always a good idea.
  25. Good to know. Very creative and inexpensive. Thanks for sharing.
