Jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits usually work the best around here at this time of year.

I would get a good reel in the $150 to $200 range. I would also get a spool of the cheapest mono you can find. While you are learning to cast a bc reel you are going to have a ton of backlashes. Some you will be able to untangle, and some it will be quicker to cut the line and respool.

Either a 6'6" M spinning rod, or for heavier cover, a 6'6" MH trigger rod.

I think that any bait will work given the correct time and place. I have some baits that haven't been in the water for a couple of years, but I still use them every once in a while.

Anywhere between 1/16 and 3/4 depending on how thick the weeds are and how deep I will be fishing.

I see hawks and ospreys every once in a while out fishing. Last year I spotted a bald eagle sitting on a log near the water. I wanted to get a pic, but I didn't have a camera, only a cell phone. I got about 50 yards away before it took off for the trees.

I have taken the boxes out of two tackle bags and have filled them up with plastics. Tbat was the only way I could get everything organized

I really got back into fishing back in 2002, after taking about a 8 year hiatus. Back then all I ever used were crankbaits. Over the years I have gotten much more confident with different types of baits, and now I rarely use a crank except in spring or fall.

How deep is deep? Over the years I have noticed that if I am using a big, deep diving lure, there is a lot of drag on the rod and reel. Sometimes a MH rod bends double just from cranking the bait. Under those conditions I would use a H rod, but most of the time I use a MH.

I have to try them out. Sometimes I get it right the first time, and sometimes I have to start mixing and matching diffferent reels to rods.

This is the only one that I can remember.

You might try a tube or a plastic worm. I have luck on those year round.

Around here it has been around St. Patrick's Day when you can be sure there will be no ice. This year I'm thinking maybe the end of April.
