Nanofil Fraying Experience
I always have a leader tied on to NanoFil. 10lb Berkley Sensation when fishing suspending jerk baits... 6lb or 10lb Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon for other techniques. Everyone has their own preferences, but the slack line sensitivity of NanoFil improves my bite recognition when fishing suspending jerk baits. Your mileage may vary. oe

Nanofil Fraying Experience
The answer to your question depends on a number of factors. The lighter the weight of the lure the larger difference in distance. The smaller diameter of NanoFil equals a greater casting difference (beware of point where break offs become a problem). NanoFil will cast farther WITH LESS EFFORT which contributes to more accuracy. I characterize this line as having "super-manageable" nylon monofilament characteristics on the spool and "super-charged" braid characteristics on the cast. This opinion comes from using NanoFil on two spinning reels for two seasons and two additional reels (one spinning/ one casting) this season. I fish smallmouth and walleye in rock, weed and open water (no timber); always with a fluoro leader. oe

Looking For A Silent Suspending Jerkbait
As above, Luckycraft silent pointer 95. suspends 4-5 feet. Seems to have a slightly more aggressive action than the Pointer 100. I wish they made the silent pointer in a 3" version. oe

Are Traditional Jigs A Thing Of The Past?
hmmm... I drag jigs through rock and sparse weed cover. Bo sent me a couple of his 20 year old prototype jigs (with the gold hooks) last year and I'm still dragging those same two jigs after nearly 1 1/2 seasons of fishing NW Iowa lakes (pretty similar to MN. lakes I suspect). They catch fish and they DON'T hang up, what more do I expect of a jig. John... the novelty of Bo's weed guard isn't a fanned split-V shape, but two single fibers separated where they attach to the lead head. As Tom, I'm not a lover of weed guards either, but when cover requires one Bo's jig does work as advertised. I don't care if fishermen use Bo's jig or not, but criticizing before using it seems presumptuous. oe

Mono Leader
Fluorocarbon lines are monofilament lines. I think your question is choosing between fluorocarbon and nylon lines for a leader. oe

Hook Sharpening - Whats The Point?
To all of you that claim to replace your hooks "WHEN they GET dull" I say B*ll Cr*p... I'll get plenty rich betting each of you fish a LONG TIME after your hook point gets dull before you actually replace it. Carry a hook hone with you and use it after each retrieve you encounter a rock or log and after landing every decent sized fish. As many have said above, every hook can be sharpened... and should be. oe

Albright Knot Failed On Hookset
Actually since the mainline encapsulates the leader tag, leaving any leader (fluoro) tag isn't benefical... in fact, that tag may catch on guides when cast. The mainline (braid) is the side you might have slip a little and is most beneficial to leave a reasonable tag. oe

Albright Knot Failed On Hookset
I think the necessity of increasing the number of wraps either up or down is dependent upon the line diameters you're using... lighter line = more wraps. Often the explanation of beginning and ending the knot through the loop is confusing... the mainline finishes the knot by traveling through the leader line loop in the opposite direction from which it began. I think of the story often told while teaching a child to tie their own shoes. The rabbit pops up his hole in the morning... runs around doing his thing during the day... then pops back down his hole when he's tired in the evening. While many counsel to cut the tag ends closely to the knot, The Albright/Alberto knot benefits from leaving a reasonable mainline tag with the knot. oe
