Why braid?
Randy... Although it doesn't pertain to this thread, I think if you pick apart the fibers of original Fireline under a magnifying glass you will find they are loosely braided. The line that Dodgeguy touts is not Original fireline but an eight strand tightly woven braid named Fireline Braid. Poor marketing in choosing such similar names but two different lines entirely. steve

Going all green pumkin for the new year
A sage much wiser than I answered when asked how many colors of plastic were needed to catch bass... "something dark, something light and something in-between". steve

Luckycraft baits
What size Gunfish are you fishing and are you catching smallmouth or largemouth with it? steve

Is front drag better than rear?
Assuming you are talking about spinning reels... I believe front drag systems allow for larger drag discs than rear drag systems. steve

when to use the right" jerkbait?
Skeeter Al... the slender pointer is my favorite also as it has a "more active" retrieve, however the pointer 78 & 100 are anything BUT duds! I prefer them when I want a less active retrieve. They compliment each other nicely. steve

What hook to use in monster worms...
One with enough gap to accomodate the bulk of the plastic worm AND still hook the fish deeply enough to not allow it to tear off. As mentioned above, the thickness of the worm should be the primary concern... the size of your potential fish should be your secondary concern. steve

How to balance spinning outfit?
To more easily feel the weight and/or vibration of your bait apart from the rod/reel in your hand. steve

Is a flouro or mono leader attached to braid necessary?
Hey, did you guys read about that new totally invisible braided line! Check it out in the nanotechnology thread! steve

I wonder if Nanotechnology will ever bring us a Fluoro braid...
Most of the better worm fishermen. steve

Flouro Discussion
- What's the best fluke style bait?
I have more faith in the fisherman than the bait. I carry a VERY small selection of lures when fishing. My bag is carried when wade fishing, tube fishing or in my boat, the only difference is the number of rods I bring along. I'm quite confident that I could swap tackle bags with many or most of you for an afternoon of bass fishing and you could out fish me with my meager selection of lures. A few basic lures caught fish 20 years ago and I believe the same few basic lures will catch fish today. Its all about where you put them and how you work them. steve- What's the best fluke style bait?
What... nobody believes in the Sluggo!? steve- How has SI changed the way you fish?
My wife hasn't allowed me to read Sports Illustrated since the "painted on" swimsuit issue! I sure do wish I had hid that issue. steve- lipless crank for small mouth
Not trying to start an argument, but only spur a little thought. Is there a hard plastic bait that has so few differences between brands than a lipless rattlebait? My point being that after size and color are determined, brand of bait doesn't make much (or any) difference. steve- Most innovative concept to come out in the last 5 years
I'm not one who follows directions well so I'll add SUSPENDING JERKBAITS to this discussions. (Of course they are older than 5 years, but they must be in the top ten of all time.) steve- Most innovative concept to come out in the last 5 years

Interesting... for me it is the opposite. steve- guide tipping etiquette
If the guide is an independant he has set his own rates and I don't tip at all... if the guide is working as an employee of a guide service I tip 20.00.- braid for small reels
I would also recommend Spiderwire ultra-cast (in any color). Although I don't believe it is a fused braid, it does seem to have a stiffer coating than many other braids and is an eight strand tightly woven line. (six strand in 20 lb or smaller tests) Casting technique may also be a contributing factor to your problem. 1. Try giving the line coming off the spool a little pull (to keep it tight on the spool) before you begin your retrieve. 2. Use a smooth backcast letting the bait load the rod tip rather than a snapping motion. steve- Problems with Mann's Little George
Farmpond... Like you I've had considerable trouble fishing the Little George and currently find I prefer to leave them home. I find a 5/8 oz Silver buddy to be a more trouble free option to deep hump bass fishing. steve- Fireline Crystal
JF... I believe you have that backwards. steve- Poll: Rod Sensitivity Casting vs. Spinning
BINGO... you're almost there. (how relaxed can you let your hand become with each reel style before the rod/reel falls out of your hand?) steve- Jighead paint chipping what to do
Sharpen the hooks... don't worry about the paint! steve - What's the best fluke style bait?
