backreeling?
I backreel large fish... not to protect the line as much as to prevent the fish from working a tear in their skin large enough to have the hook drop out. The superlines are probably the worst offenders as their limited stretch provides better resistance for the fish to pull against and work the hook loose.

What is the most versatile lure?
If that's your definition of a "worm" then I'll buy that... as long as it includes my tube (and grub).

What is the most versatile lure?
The question was "most versatile"... put me in the corner with the tube throwers. I'd like to read that exhaustive study that fished every lure against a worm.

Tube hookups?
Use braided lines and keep in constant contact with the bait (meaning your line is fairly taut at all times to feel the slightest difference in weight... more weight or LESS)

Slider fishing
True "slider fishing" is more about the technique that Charlie Brewer wrote about than the exact tackle or baits that the Brewer Company sells. Any fishing department in any sporting goods store will have tackle and bait suitable to fish "slider style". Considerable discussion on this topic is archived at Bronzeback.com and NYBass.com.

junk fireline
In an effort to keep this thread "fair and balanced"... I've been fishing with Fireline since it was first introduced and have used dozens of spools. I've used it with spinning tackle in 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10lb test. I've used it with bait casting tackle in 10, 14, and 20lb test. I've used smoke, flame green and crystal. I've fished it with mono/fluoro leads and without. Some of it stayed on reels for several years other spools of it got changed within a year because I wanted to try a new version. The only times I've had any of it break during a cast was at the end of a backlash. Why I like it... It has more "passive" memory or body than other braids I've tried and this trait makes it fish more like a very soft mono. No wind knots around the rod tip and it behaves better on both spinning and baitcasting spools. These are my preferences... yours may be different, but that fact doesn't mean the product is defective.

Fireline mad as than heck!!
Reading this leads me to believe there was a sudden stop to the cast that snapped the line. Maybe you should check your reel or work on your casting technique.

More important, Rod or Reel?
At the price point you are considering I would invest in braided line with the rods you currently use to increase your feel!

No one knows for sure. In his book "Knowing Bass", Dr. Keith Jones does a good job of covering the scientific knowledge on this subjet.

Deep Water Smallies
What you say is good advice if you are fishing that deep, however, let's not assume that fizzing does not invite infection (or internal organ damage if done improperly) or that effects of swim bladder pressurization can't be delayed. Catching fish from 30+ depths is potentially fatal to the fish. Again, everyone should make their own informed decision.

Deep Water Smallies
Catching smallies from depths of 30' or deeper may cause damage or death to the fish. I'm not preaching, just warning... your call.

Better than Power Pro ? ? ?
Aren't each of these lines made of the same material... Spectra? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if not, what is the processing difference that makes one better than the next?

Shimano at BPS. Oh NO!!!!!!!!
Perhaps Shimano is leveling the playing the field for all of the independent tackle shops.

What knot to use to tie braid to mono/floro?
I'm with Rolo on the uni knots PLUS add a very small drop of superglue to the superline side. Without the glue the superline can (and probably will) tighten to the point of cutting the mono/fluoro. The glue is to prevent the superline from over-tightening (not coming loose).
