Why Does It Seem Nobody Else Is Using Nanofil?
NanoFil has its place in my fishing... I use 8lb & 10lb test casting dressed jigheads and lures 1/4oz or lighter with long limber spinning rods to fish very clear open water at as far a distance as I can reach, always with a light fluoro leader. If I'm fishing heavier weight lures with spinning rods around wood, concrete or docks I use 10lb Fireline. Bait casting reels are loaded with either 20lb Sufix 832 for subsurface presentations or 20lb Spiderwire Ultra-Cast for top water presentations. Evidently mileage does vary! oe

Berkley Lightning Rod-Shock Or Not?
I believe the Shock series has more fiberglass blended into the tip of the rod to help compensate for the no stretch property of PE lines. The tip will be softer than the traditional Lightning Rod series. oe

Trilene Knot And Braid
If you're going to use the Trilene knot tying terminal tackle to PE line, leave >=1/2" of tag line. I leave at least that much tag with any knot I'm tying with a PE line. oe

Problem Throwing Lighter Tackle With Baitcaster
As you expand your fishing techniques you need to expand your tools. Buy a lighter spinning rod and spinning reel. oe

Barbless Trebles?
I find the bass throw the heavier baits more easily than the lighter baits. If it will bother you to occasionally "short release" a bass I'd recommend you fish with the barbs, it will happen. Long ago I stopped worrying about landing every bass I hooked. Without barbs, playing the bass to hand becomes as challenging as getting them to bite. I like the increased challenge and if pressed to put a number on it, I'd estimate I land 90% of the bass I hook. A side benefit to fishing barbless is the ease of releasing the incidental musky or northern caught. oe

Barbless Trebles?
All of my barbs are filed away when the bait first is unpackaged... even trebles. oe

Going All Braid
1/4" carriage bolt 4" long; wing nut and 2 washers... tighten spare filler spool onto the bolt between the 2 washers with the wing nut... place bolt/spool assembly into a variable speed drill chuck... slowly spool line from reel to filler spool. oe

Thumbing Baitcaster...
Any way you can control the spool is the "right way". I under-fill my spools with line and prefer to thumb the spool edge for control. oe

Berkley Powerbait Rib Snake
I tried the Berkley Rib Snake because it was similar to Lunker City's Ribster. The Ribster was softer and I caught more bass with it. oe

Chronarch Brake Blocks?
Which combination of brake blocks will have more effect on the Chronarch 51e spool... 2 of the heavier blocks or 3 of the lighter blocks? After it quits raining in a couple of days I'll play with the different combinations. Has anyone used a braking combination utilizing both weight blocks? oe

Flouro Leader.
I have never seen (or heard of) a rod with guides of various styles... are you sure you haven't got two of your guides that have lost the ceramic rings? Frames without insert rings will certainly catch a knot cast through them. oe

Wife's Tales...
I've been around for several new moons and have heard or read many wife's tales concerning fishing, but here are three new ones I hadn't stumbled across before... enjoy After handling gasoline, wash your hands with sugar. After applying insect repellant, wash your hands with salt. Smallmouth excrete a chemical from their skin that smells like crawfish and entices crawfish to reveal themselves while investigating for the intruder. Add your own favorite fishing wife's tale. oe

Bearing Shields
After soaking the bearings in a solvent, clean them in your ultra-sonic cleaner, changing the solvent every 5 minutes or so until the solvent remains clear. 8 hours or soaking and 1 hour in the UC is probably over-kill. oe
