Crappie specific rod and reel combo
For a rod dedicated to panfish, I'd go with a 5.5 to 6-ft Ultralight Spinning Rod. A good line choice would be 4-lb Trilene XL or 10-lb Trilene braid. Roger

How To Fish A Jig - New Video
Nice video Glenn BTW: The slack-line hook-set is supposedly a trade secret

Bass fishing on hold for now!
Most that we grow are just chilled, salted and eaten whole (we take them fishing too). We plant several cultivars but "Heatwave" seems best adapted to central Florida (9B), followed by Arkansas Traveler and Heatmaster. Roger

Am I normal?
I like that The fair sex is more competitive than many might imagine. Sadly, I don't allow my wife to outfish me, she does it all by herself Roger

Am I normal?
You're as normal as apple pie NOW, get mama interested in fishing and you'll have found the world's greatest fishing companion. It begins by sparking her interest in nature, teaching her every audible bird song, every tree encountered, right down to underwater exploration (better known as angling). Roger

Advice on first boat!
In your situation, I wouldn't buy a Jon boat or a Bass boat. I'd recommend an aluminum 14-16-ft modified deep-V, aka Utility Boat & Pike Boat. An aluminum mod-V would be significantly cheaper than a fiberglass bass boat and significantly safer than a flat-bottomed pram, and depending on the your choice, as safe as a bass boat (I fished extensively in the ocean with a 14-ft Starliner). A Question if this happened
Spinning: Shimano Casting: Shimano So you're sayin'....There are 'other' reel manufacturer?

Gambler big EZ
The Skinny Dipper has less bulk than the Big EZ, and just like a small crankbait versus a large crankbait, the smaller lure tends to invoke more strikes. But there are few thrills greater than a wall-hanger blasting the Big EZ about 15-ft from the boat. The noise makes your heart skip a beat, and the water surface resembles shattered plate-glass

Spinning Reel sizes
In freshwater, the line capacity of a reel is unimportant because freshwater game fish, including muskies are NOT going to 'smoke' the spool. Rather than paying attention to commercial designations such as 2500 and 3000, the freshwater angler should concentrate on "Reel Weight" (the same as line-test versus line diameter). The trend toward lighter and lighter reels, only boosts the complaints we hear about top-heavy rods. Roger

fishing knots
I'm now in my 7th decade of fishing in both fresh and saltwater. So you can well imagine how many different knots I've tied over the decades Today I tie one knot for nearly everything, and that's the "Uni-knot" where 'uni' stands for 'universal'. The uni-knot is a fast, easy to tie, remarkably secure, saliva-free knot. I should add that I 'never' use fluorocarbon for anything, which is the main source of knot disappointment. Though I do use P-Line CXX for dropshot rigs, I use fluoro for nothing. Roger

Talon
For any angler who prefers to fish pinpointed spots from a stationary boat, the 12-ft Minn Kota Talon is a Godsend. For the angler whose foremost tool is the electric motor, the electric anchor comes in a distant second. I'm in the former camp. Roger

OUCH! But it hurts so good

Chicken rig
You make an excellent point, which corroborates the fact that I love every corner of America

Unfortunate incident with fellow angler.
I Like That It turns a potentially ugly situation into a comedic parody. I've often entertained the notion of carrying a plastic replica of a 12-lb bass, then netting that sucker time-after-time-after-time, accompanied by vocal hoopla. Roger

Bass fishing on hold for now!
Today in Florida, we averaged around 68 deg Fahrenheit. HOWEVER, we're expected to plummet into the 30s tonight!! There goes my tomato garden

Chicken rig
I was fixing to give this rig a college try, but I reached the inescapable conclusion that I'm too 'chicken'

Cold Water Bassing
How True! When water temps plummet below 70 deg, Florida-strain bass begin to get cantankerous. In water temps below 60-deg, you might as well pack it up, and go home Mother Nature accommodates every niche on the planet Roger
