New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
Well, looking at them now I can't remember which is which. I think the reel on the left is a Revo S, the one on the right, a Patriarch. .

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE
What is this snuggie that you speak of?

Just about passed out after fishing. Whats up with that?
Yep, I've gained some weight over the past few months. Same thing here. I was back at the gym this morning and intend to keep doing it. I'm not going to let bad health due to not taking care of myself ruin my leisure time activities.

Rat-L-Traps: Quality Control Problems? (response from RatLTrap)
I've only purchased a few traps in the past year. Most of them were floating traps with a couple regular ones thrown in. I didn't have an issue with any of them.

New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
The differences between the Revo line and the Patriarch, besides minor ergonomics, are in the spool and palm plate side. Put aside the fact that the Pflueger reels come in narrow spool and wide spools, the Revo spool is marginally taller than the Pflueger. I was equally interested if I could swap the Pflueger centrifugal brake mech with the Revo S. You can't. The patriarchs would fit onto the Revo spool shaft but the brakes themselves didn't reach out far enough, when fully extended, to make contact with the outer spool ring mounted on the palm plate. Shame.

Burned up Trolling Motor...
Replace the switch and check all other connectors in the head for oxidation and clean and replace as necessary. Throwing a TM into high puts a tremendous amount of current through the wiring of a trolling motor. If there is corrosion or oxidation on connectors, the resistance of that connection will cause it to overheat and then burn. I've had it happen to me before.

The Best Reel Lubricants?
For the Hot sauce users, try raspberry jam. It works even better. Make sure to pick out the seeds first.

BPS Fritts reel schematic?
It's your fault, you sold me the reel. I have to wash my hands of this. The shipment of a BPS reel to your address created a tremor in the force. I have no power to stop Darth Morris nor control his use of the darkside.

color confusion
The lure manufacturers make a bunch of different colors because if you take a bunch of fishermen and ask them the same question you'll get a bunch of different answers. Generally, clear water = more translucent colors, while dirty water = Opaque colors.

Voltage drop while trolling motor is running
It's perfectly normal and explained by ohms law. As current increases, voltage decreases.

5 1/2' -6' worm rod for texas rig?
Rods longer than 6 1/2 foot have become the norm over the past 15 years or so. It wasn't so before. It's possible that's a dated article. That said, it's also true. If an angler isn't paying attention to his rod tip movement while working a worm on a longer rod, he may very well be moving it way too much. I prefer a longer rod for more powerful hooksets, especially in deeper water and more leverage when playing a fish back to the boat. Most of the major rod brands have their rods listed as to action and power ratings. Some even have the style of fishing listed for each rod. I'd suggest a 6 1/2 foot, mhvy fast action rod as a starter. I have 2 of them and use them most of the time. As an affordable rod, I'd suggest a Team All Star TAS 786C. http://www.allstarrods.com/2009_as_teamasfwspec.html

I need help
I have not used a JM elite so I'm not familiar with them. I do own 4 JM sig reels, 2 - JMX10HC's and 2 JMX 10SC's. They are great reels and are butter smooth. The dual brake system is outstanding. That said, they are a slightly higher profile than the Pflueger Patriarch and around 1.2 oz heavier. They are a pretty beefy reel. The Patriarch is the way to go. Save your money too, you can regularly find Patriarchs brand new on Ebay in the $120-140 range.

Bass Pro "makes over" all their reels
I saw that too. On Bass Pro Shop's website they list the reel at 9.4 oz., but in the new catalog it's say's 6.6. Wonder which one is right because 9.4 sounds way to heavy and 6.6 sounds a little too lite to be possible for a reel with an aluminum frame at that price. It's gotta be a misprint. The Prolite Finesse is really nothing more than an ETX05 Extreme reel. I'm thinking the printed weight is wrong on the ETX05 reel as well. They've got it at 8.6oz which is the same weight as the ETX10, a reel which is quite a bit larger.

New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
In this pix The small white gear you see is the level wind drive gear. That bearing to the 7 o'clock position of it is the drive shaft main bearing (it's removable BTW for lubing). Below that you'll see screw holes on the bottom of the pictures on both sideplates. The main drive shaft has a metal retainer holding it down. The screw on one side of the plate has to be removed. (careful, about 1 in three of these I've found to be badly torqued down. I had to get the Revo one loose today by putting the reel in a rag, then putting in a vice to hold it and then exert great pressure on a flat blade screw to break it loose) Now note the 2 screws at about 9 and 11 o'clock to the main drive bearing. Those hold down the the plate which is actually a slider that disengages the pinion when the spool release is pushed. Back those screws out, it's not necessary to remove them but you do have to lift that side of the plate up enough to get the main shaft metal retainer out from under it. You'll have to use a fairly straight up lifting motion to clear the drive shaft bearing. Your drive shaft should now be out for servicing. A pretty easy reel to learn to disassemble. One other thing...... Before doing any of this, remove the 2 small springs on top of the pinion gear holder and put away in a safe place!!!! Those things are not held down and if they go shooting off they're a dickens to find.

Tomb of the unknown Soldier
I've been there. It's an awe inspiring site to watch the guard perform his duties along with the mini ceremony that comes with the changing of the guard. Awesome.

Classic/Muscle Cars
This car is identical to the one I used to have. I regret selling it everytime I see one roll across the auction block and sell for 20 to 30 times what I paid for mine in 1976.

Question - 2003 Ford Taurus
The wife has a 2002 Taurus. Has been a pretty good car. It's got around 70k on it. Fix old car = $1250 New car = A whole bunch more than $1250, car payments, mandatory collision insurance and depreciation.

New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
I did this in order to see if I can create a 5.4:1 cranking reel out of a Patriarch since they don't offer one. Garcia has had 5.4:1 gear kits for the Revo's, I could probably order the Revo Winch main & pinion gear as well. If you're interested in creating a 5.4:1 ratio Patriarch for cranking, the Revo gears will work!

New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
I only wish I still had one of my old STX's reels. I like the handle/nut cover of the STX much better than the S reel and the S star drag doesn't have the clicker adjustment. Not sure how the Patriarch main shaft/gear/star drag knob/handle will work on the Revo S. I do know the spool tension knobs are not interchangeable due to the finer threading on the Patriarch vs the S. BTW, I'm replacing a washer on the main shaft between the star drag clicker assembly and the top of the roller bearing shaft. The Revo washer is double thick and isn't allowing me to back off the drag all the way off. I wish I had a way to test the drag poundage, I'm pulling hard on this line and the spool just doesn't move. I may be exceeding 24 lbs!!

New Reel I'm building!! Check out!!
I'm making my own reel. Nothing else to do today, too cold and windy to work on the boat redo. Here are the Specs. Type 10 body frame. Titanium deposition coating. All aluminum frame and sideplates. Dual braking, Internally adjustable 6 pin centrifugal and externally adjustable mag braking. This can come in a wide or narrow spool version. Reel total Weight: Roughly 8oz. narrow spool. 8.4 wide spool. 24lbs drag 6.4:1 gear ratio, optional 7.1:1 or even 5.4:1. 10 bearing drive system with 1 rollerbearing. Click type spool tension adjustment First, I started with 2 reels made by completely different manufacturers and stripped them down. Then I added the main shaft, main/pinion gear along with the complete drag stack from one reel onto the other. I then reassemble the crankside plate back on adding the rest of parts with the higher drag count onto the other reel including the star drag knob. I wish I had that other manufacturers higher end reel that had the click type star drag. That would really make this whole thing sweet. Wah lah The Garlueger Patrevo Works like butter I tells ya.

Sebile Magic swimmer questions.
Thanks for all the answers. I've only played around with soft plastic swimbaits the past couple years but never considered the hard ones. Looks like the bait monkey's gonna get some of my money this year. 8-)

VHF Radio
If I fished a river like the Mississippi and would be dealing with locks I'd definitely own one. Also, inshore and offshore SW fishing. Other than that, the advent of cell phones and push to talk communication has sort of made marine radios out dated.
